Justice, power, and forgiveness: that’s what God says about Himself in Jeremiah’s final prophecy. “The Lord is a God Who gives just punishment,” doing the unthinkable: breaking down the world’s mightiest, and most evil empire (Jer 51:56). We think of institutions as unassailable, but God “stretched out the heavens with His own understanding,” “speaks in thunder and makes the heavens roar with rain” (Jer 51:15-16). His justice and His power are accompanied by His forgiveness, for even “in a land filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel,” He “has not abandoned them” (Jer 51:5). In today’s reading that depicts so much chaos, this is a peaceful assurance.
Jeremiah gave us a lot to take in today, God is with us even when things go so wrong in our lives and we think what is next. We need to remember GOD is always making a way for us, and he is right there with us and he is where the JOY is!!!
I read The 5 Love Languages. It changed my life and made all my relationships better because I learned to love others the way they needed me to, not the way I wanted to do it. If God's primary love language is quality time, that would be awesome! It's my primary love language as well. I'm in. Love how you tied that in.
Day 236 Jeremiah 51-52 Today we finished our 28th book of the Bible! This was a long one.Yes chapter 51 is one of the longest chapters in the Bible. It starts with God reminding His people of His presence in their captivity. God has not forgotten them. They are not alone. God said that He will plead their cause. He will eventually bring them back and restore their fortunes. He will destroy Babylon. When this happens, all they will have to do is pack up and go home to Jerusalem. Many decades in the future, God will prompt the king of Persia to come and destroy Babylon. Because God initiates it, He will sustain it and fulfill it. Nothing can stand against the Lord and His plans. Vs 46 God’s people do not have to be afraid. Let not your heart faint and be afraid in the land. It’s not that it is not a frightening situation. It is that God can be trusted in the midst of it. Chapter 52 An overview of the whole story. Jerusalem was overthrown. The temple was burned and destroyed. Kings and leaders were killed. People were exiled into another country. There were three rounds of exile and deportation into Babylon. But there are stores of hope, and redemption in the midst of them all. Amazingly redemption isn’t for everything who does things perfectly. Even wicked kings like Jehoiachin receive this redemption. He was the king, the only one who obeyed Jeremiah’s instruction to surrender to Babylon. Even though he was a wicked king God blessed his obedience to the word of God’s prophet. God provides for and protects people that we would never expect to receive His blessing. In 51:19 the God who made everything gave His people Himself. He is the best gift. Better than everything that He has ever made. Nothing will ever be as good as the gift of God. People who have everything realizes they still are not satisfied. It is only with God that our hearts are truly satisfied. There is NOTHING better than Him.
Aloha, praise the Lord and good morning BR family. Thanks, TL, for reminding us that what God initiates, he will sustain; nothing can stand against the Lord no matter how fortified it seems, he can overcome. Glory be to God our Father. He where the JOY is!!!
My God shot was 51:15 The Lord made the earth by his power, and he preserves it by his wisdom. With his own understanding he stretched out the heavens.
When you hear the report, don't become cowardly and don't let your heart grow faint, there is a day that is coming... Praise the Lord that by spending quality time with Him, we can trust in His plan and His timing, even when things look dark and gloomy. His people aren't alone. He's active in the process of destruction and restoration. ❤
Anyone else finding that the description box doesn't match the day? I went to find the song she references and it's not there. The only extra links are the overviews of Joel and Daniel.
Ok! Here’s something I’m stumped on and I can’t easily find info about it online. Why was the number of Israelites going into Babylonian captivity so small? 4500?? What happened to the rest of the Israelites? Have they been diminishing in population and being dispersed without me noticing? They were in the hundreds of thousands at one point. I’m confused.
In about 720BC, the 10 northern tribes were scattered and lost to Assyria. Then the remaining 2 tribes, Judah and Benjamin, experienced sieges and wars and starvation off and on for a hundred years. Then probably a several thousand were left in Judah under Gedahlia, who fled to Egypt and died there. And we’ll see that after 70 yrs in Babylon, about 45,000 return with Ezra and Zerubabbel.

3:50 so amazing to see how loving, forgiving, and kind God is, even to those we don’t think deserve it. He is so good. And he is where the joy is.
It makes God happy when we spend time with Him. He is so gracious even when we don't deserve it. This whole book of Jeremiah is proof of that.
Amen
I love your tie ins to popular culture, it provides a layered approach to understanding God's word.

This book was so impactful and I want to praise the Lord for giving himself over and over again.

The things that I’m going through in my life. I know that God is Faithful and always here for me. I am so humble and grateful. He is where the joy is.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It appears that God did us more than use the king of Persia to destroy Babylon. Do you think God sent His own warriors?
I'm honestly so bored with the book of Jeremiah
I'm struggling too. It's very repetitive.
