You're all under the bias of "I didn't fall for it, so anyone who did is an idiot". Had you been in a slightly different situation, that could've been you too.

That's right, he was just one of the victims who thoroughly fell for it though.
He was actually genuinely excited to the nth degree because he fell so hard for their bullsht and thought he's going to make a real shtload of money.
To get people not in on the scam extremely exited about it and doing the work for you is one of the oldest tricks in the book.
