The lady explained that many people assume growin up that they will spend majority of their time in the field and with sharks for example. I would like to know what job title would ACTUALLY spend majority of their time in the field. I want a marine/ aquatic career, but I cannot figure out the proper job title of what I am looking for. I love conservation. Dealing with extinct animals and making sure they are safe and I love turtles and corral reefs. I love it all. I could look at it all day. But I don't want to teach anything or write any peer reviews. What am I looking for? Please help me. I love the planet as well. I jus want a nature job.
Hi Nena - ok then going into pure research is definitely not for you. You'd be looking for something more along the lines of dive/boat technician or research assistant/ research director for a field lab or research station. These would be people who help other researchers collect their data in the field, as opposed to pursuing your own research that requires reading and writing peer reviews etc. There are many options out there if you are not interested in pursuing academia. Hope that helps?
Telly'sMarineTales I would like to do be in the field but also do my own research and help with conservation. I also want to work primarily with sharks, marine mammals, and reef environments. I am about to be a sophomore in high school and have wanted to do this for my whole life. I also do not in anyway know what classes I should take in the field of marine biology in college, all I know is that I want to get a PhD in college. I do not want to spent all of my time being behind a computer, I would like to do field work, research, and conservation of a sertain species (sharks primarily). What do I do?

I really enjoyed this video. I thank you very much as it has made my decision of what I want to in my life more clearer. I think more people should make videos like these if they are thinking of giving people an insight into a certain profession.
This was so informative i was that kid that said when I grow up i want to be a marine biologist but not truely understanding what the job actually entails my idea what working as a dolphin whale and seal rehabilitator in Aquariums not sitting behind a desk punching in numbers and figures all day which makes me think is it marine biology or animal science that I should look at. My dream has always been to work hands on with the ocean go out to sea and really get into the water and encounter these animals study their behaviour and how we can protect them from danger or extinction. If anyone has advice on what would be the best programme to study🙏
@@eleaxdurant1483 I don’t think you understand the process of how getting into aquariums works. If you are new no matter how hard you study on this you are going to mess something up especially your first fish. What position upon all completed schoolwork for you have you had a passion for having? I grew up in Los Angeles & Orange County. My father is a (now) retired professor at OCC. I did my undergrad and honours at the University of Cape Town, and I am currently at Rhodes University for my masters and PhD. In my opinion, what university you go to doesn't really matter at the end of the day, just the quality of work you can produce at the end of it. Also when it comes to post-grad work, it's more about finding the right supervisor and project than about the right uni :)
if i become a marine biologist, can i do some research in mariana trench? bc i heard that scientists say that we've only discovered 95% of the ocean and mariana trench is the deepest part of the ocean, which means there are many possibilities such as undiscovered fishes or sea monsters. i'd appreciate if you answer my question, thank you very much!
There is a lot of work going into deep sea research now because we don't know much about it! So once you have got your marine biology degree, look for a postgrad supervisor that specialises in deep sea work :)

I would love to do marine biology but I generally kinda wanna work out in the field more. am I required to work in the lab and computers or can I just do that?
It depends on the job you get but you will inevitably have to do some / quite a lot of computer work. Good luck on getting into your dream university one day!
@@TellysMarineTales oh thanks for the help I’m going to try my best! ☺️
why does every video has to have music in the background please stop
@Telly'sMarineTales hey so I don't wanna be stuck ding crazy amounts of mathsy stuff or in the office, I'd rather be doing feild wor as much as possible, like I'm worried that I'm gonna take A levels for marine biology and then find it way way ay to sciency and mathsy for me, but I love the sea and marine life and could spend hours on a coral reef watching fish , I'm always the ast out of the water when I snorkel what kindof job am I looking for and what kind of a levels, am I looking for more like, underwater cameraman or does an jobs like this not exist
A dive instructor might be a good fit :)
Do i have to be good at math, physics and chemistry? Those are my weakest
I’m dumb I’m not making it but I hope you guys do
which university did you go to?
I did my undergrad and honours at the University of Cape Town, and I am currently at Rhodes University for my masters and PhD. In my opinion, what university you go to doesn't really matter at the end of the day, just the quality of work you can produce at the end of it. Also when it comes to post-grad work, it's more about finding the right supervisor and project than about the right uni :)
Underwater scientist😤🤝🏾
Nice.
if i become a marine biologist, can i do some research in mariana trench? bc i heard that scientists say that we've only discovered 95% of the ocean and mariana trench is the deepest part of the ocean, which means there are many possibilities such as undiscovered fishes or sea monsters. i'd appreciate if you answer my question, thank you very much!
There is a lot of work going into deep sea research now because we don't know much about it! So once you have got your marine biology degree, look for a postgrad supervisor that specialises in deep sea work :)
