    Just a tip, put your resin bottles in a warm bath before measuring it out. Your resin should not be so clumpy. That means it's cold and you won't get a proper measurement in the end.

    • @hscraftytutorials
      @hscraftytutorials  Год назад +1

      Oh that’s maybe how I’ve filmed it. When I show a close up, the resin hasn’t been mixed up yet, I just personally love how gooey it looks before it gets mixed up all smooth and thought other people might find that enjoyable to look at 😂 I can see the confusion this may cause 😬😅 but you’re right in that resin can get a bit clumpy when it’s too cold and that’s a great tip 👍🏻 thank you ☺️

    1. How much resin is required to make tgis tray
    2. How thick the layer of resin shall be kept
    3. How much weight this tray can bear without breaking

    • @hscraftytutorials
      @hscraftytutorials  3 года назад

      Hi there!
      I used 600mls to make the tray base. This gave me a tray that was about 8mm thick. I'm not sure how much the tray would be able to stand weight wise when being held by the handles. These were stuck on with resin but they're more decorative than functional but I still think they'd be pretty strong. In terms of how strong the actual tray base is...very! Resin is kind of like plastic or acrylic in strength so at 8mm you'll have no problems. ☺️

    Excellent art work :) !! Thanks for sharing the method.... I am new to Resin art work. I have a question about the heat gun used to cool it down and fix handles, Is it ok not to use any type of heatgun and only allow the resin to harden over a day's time ? will my handle stick ? Will I be able to use it for a cup of tea of two ? How much is enough weight to bare for the tray is what I am asking... since it looks delicate and do not want to harm the artwork created :)

    • @hscraftytutorials
      @hscraftytutorials  Год назад

      Thank you ☺️ so you don't actually need a torch or heat gun in order for resin to set. It will set not matter what. The torch is great for popping bubbles as is the heat gun, and the heat gun is also a great tool for mixing and blending the resin layers and colours together which can help create nice effects. If you don't have a heat gun or torch, you absolutely still can pour resin and it will cure all the same, you just wont be able to manipulate the resin as much after pouring it into molds. In terms of how much weight the tray can hold depends on the bond between the tray and handles. If you place the handles in the tray before the tray resin sets then the bond will be incredibly strong, tea, plates, anything really. If you attach the handles to the tray after it has cured like I did, make sure you apply a generous amount of resin and this should be plenty strong enough to carry cups of tea. Hope that helps 👍🏻❤️

    Thanks so much for this tutorial. I want to do this with a group of people. What’s a cheap alternative for the heat gun/blow torch ? Are blow dryers not effective? Thanks for your help

    • @hscraftytutorials
      @hscraftytutorials  2 года назад

      Hi ☺️ hairdryers can work but you just have to be careful, you don't want resin flying everywhere 😅 but if you have a really mellow one that still kicks out quite a bit of heat then that might work (still be very cautious though). And as for an alternative to a blow torch, a long stemmed lighter would probably work well 👍🏻 you can buy pretty cheap heat guns and blow torches off of Amazon though. Mine were cheap and I'm sure there were even cheaper optiond available. Hope it goes well ☺️❤️

    Your tray is beautiful! I want to make a marble-looking resin tray. When I tried, the resin pulled to the center so only the center had the marble look. Do you know what I can do to prevent the resin from pulling to the center?

    • @hscraftytutorials
      @hscraftytutorials  Год назад

      Thank you! What I like to do to get my marbled effects evenly distributed is I pour a plain base layer first (white or an opaque color that’s part of your color scheme). Then once that’s cured, take it out of the mold, turn it upside down, elevate it up off of your work surface and marble a thinner layer of resin on that. The underside should be the flattest side but if your mold base isn’t as flat as you’d want then just sand the lip off of the normal side and marble on that one. A couple of things to be aware of, 1) you’ll want to protect the underside of the base from resin drips with liquid latex or painters tape, and 2) make sure your initial base is quite thick or it might bend when having heat applied to it during the marbling process.
      Hope all that makes sense. Feel free to ask follow up questions if needed ☺️❤️

    Great tips thank you so much !!! quick question , im starting out in resin art myself particularly in trays question for you if you could help out . after the tray is complete and out of the molding did you run into the problem of the tray sinking in when you would go to flip it upside down for a long period of time ? or stacking one ontop of the other ?

    • @hscraftytutorials
      @hscraftytutorials  Год назад +1

      Hi there Diana! I like to stack resin pieces on as flat a surface as possible. They shouldn’t bend if the resin was mixed really thoroughly and poured accurately (exact 50:50 for 1:1 ratio resin for example) but if it wasn’t absolutely perfect, storing on a flat surface is best to avoid the dreaded bend. Try to avoid storing in a place where the sun will be on them too. When even cured resin warms up it can become soft and then bend, then of course the sun disappears and it hardens in that shape. Over time it becomes harder to reshape resin by applying heat yourself. I ruined one of my trays beyond repair due to how I stored it 😔. Hope that helps. Any other questions just send them over ☺️❤️

    • @hscraftytutorials
      @hscraftytutorials  2 года назад

      Hi Nancy thank you! It's up to you. I preferred how the top looked so I went with that side but if the underside is your favourite then you can use that as the top. Because my silicone mat wasn't shiny, I would have to have done a top coat on the underside to get a glossy finish. Most shop-bought molds are glossy so both sides would be ready to use/pick from normally. Hope that has answered your question ❤️

    If you don't have a heat gun or blow torch, can you use a blow dryer? And would 32 oz of resin and hardener be enough to make a tray a little smaller than this?

    • @hscraftytutorials
      @hscraftytutorials  2 года назад +1

      Hi Alexandria ☺️ if you have the dryer on very low blow (technical term) then I reckon that might work. I haven't tried it myself so just be extra careful, you don't want resin flying everywhere 😬 You could also use a long stemmed lighter for surface bubbles (which is basically what the blow torch is for). And 32oz is more than enough to make even the same sized tray I did. 32oz is about 950mls if that helps ☺️❤️

      @@hscraftytutorials hi, thank you for getting back with me so quickly. I’m not sure how to explain it but is there a name for the technique that you used that makes the resin look like it’s being pulled towards the middle.

      @@xrispi I understand what you mean now but I don't actually know if it has a name, and if it does, I don't know what it is 😂 let's give it a name....how about the schloop technique? The resin schloops into the middle so....💁🏼‍♀️

      @@hscraftytutorials perfect! Maybe you should trademark that and make it the official technique name 😂

    can't the handle be put down before the resin dries??

    • @hscraftytutorials

      This is an definitely an option, I see lots of other people do it in that order. I couldn't put my handles down at that point though just because they didn't yet exists 😂 I was making them at the same time with the left over resin from the tray ☺️❤️

    How long did it take to cure?

    • @hscraftytutorials
      @hscraftytutorials  2 года назад

      Hi Niya. Different resins take different amounts of time to cure but usually with a 1:1 formula it's 24 hours. However, resin continues to harden for a while even after this so it's still prone to fine scratches and dents after waiting 24 hours so something to bare in mind ☺️

      @Hannah Somerville's Crafty Tutorials I really appreciate those take the time out to share step by step. It's time-consuming. I now call myself an artist & no less. I lose myself, it's therapeutic & has healed me. I'm the one in the family that always rumored to be nothing (even tho Mastersw/honors& part of my EDd). At 60 yrs my ears let that go. When I did, God increased my Gift as an Artist that I didn't I had. God Bless you 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽you mean so much to me...keep Blessing!!
