I'm not against or pro to this land bridge or canal project...but I've always find it amusing how the developed world's media (such as CNN and CNA), are always so passionate and caring about other's (mostly under developed countries) environmental preservation, while theirs are completely gone as a result of development years ago

not sure if you've been following the news, panama and to a lesser extent suez are facing very real problems atm. does it mean the projects were not worth doing? no, i think we can agree in those 2 instances it was definitely worth it, but it's still worth weighing the cost/benefits, and the benefits in this case aren't as obvious (less shipping days saved). singapore benefits from the current sea route, but it's just one potential stop along a very long route, nothing is stopping neighbouring countries from building their own competitive ports without the massive cost/footprint of a land bridge (and in fact that's what they're already been doing with success). more than 1 way to skin a cat.

This land bridge is not even the most optimal choice for Thailand. The ships need to berth, unload cargo, load on to trucks/into the pipes, travel to the other port in Thailand, load onto the next vessel before moving off. There are so many things to consider and so much cost as well.
Just to point out some potential problems,
    1)cost of transporting on trucks
2)weather when travelling by truck(bulk cargo may be damaged by rain)
3)transporting of oil through pipes (Oil grade difference)
4)loading vessel late/no berthing spot for loading vessel.
These are just some of the problems companies may face if they choose to go through land bridge. But i'd point out that if they had a canal that cut across instead of a land bridge, it would post a problem for Singapore. This land bridge would ultimately be, in my opinion, a waste of money.

Economies of scale, efficiency and fast turnaround well on paper the concept looks good but the logistics and coordination efforts required to achieve efficiency and fast turn around is needed but it is a start lets see if they can pull this off!
Ideally cutting a canal similar to the Suez canal is the ideal solution but the engineering efforts and challenges posed is very high.
I saw some trolls mentioned Singapore charges high fees for docking around Singapore, what an idiot lmao, Singapore similar to its airport charges a nominal fee they make it up with the traffic, refueling, logistics and other side charges.
Anyways business is all about costs and efficiency lets see how the Thais can up the game here.

I am uncertain what types of ship they propose to attract. Take container shipping for example; there is no way , no matter what magic is used; unless the flying carpets still dreamed of by some nations could be realized, there is no way to move thousands of containers across even across any distance could justify the costs incurred as against the cost of 2/3 days of sailing! The only option is a canal subject to the real costs to be involved. Even the century old Panama Canal is now encountering " dry season" impact; giving hope to the possibility of the Guatemala canal realization. Anyway, we can all wait for a decision.

Don't do it, Shinawatra. Your islands are far more valuable in the long term than a shipping route. And the geopolitical risk is far too great. This wont develop the right kind of tourism, guy. You dont want cruise ships. You want travellers who will disperse across the water and land and explore amd support businesses everywhere, not just near the ports. As a Westerner, I say Thailand would be ruined if cruise ships take over

Quite frankly, this project is unnecessary. Why? Climate change is now irreversible and the fastest heating region is in the Arctic. Thus, the far shorter/cheaper route through the Arctic will be routine in the coming years. There will be zero reason for shipping to go through South East Asia.

It's fake. I'm not sure who is stoking up the Thais, maybe the government trying to promise the people a better future but a canal can't deliver it. You can go look these things up, don't take my word for it.
1- it only takes 14 hours to transit the straits of malacca. At best, a canal can only save 14 hours, maybe 28 if a ship needs to double back to Vietnam or Thai ports. That is very little time saved.
2- traffic through a canal is very low, like 50-60 ships a day. You can check this with the Suez or Panama canal statistics. The straits of singapore has 2,000 ships estimated passing through it daily. 60/2000 = 3%. At best, it can only take away 3% of singapore's business.
"Singapore black ops!!" is not something on the singapore side, it's from the Thais trying to find reasons why their government is not rushing into a losing business that they cannot see is a scam.

All I see now is locals desperate for jobs. The project makes sense if it just helps local economy. Beyond that it doesn’t make sense.

There are nature purposes for one piece land of any countries to be as such, and should not be divided into an island or two pieces from one plot.

Thailand’s political instability and corruption will cause this project to go over budget and stall its estimated completion date. They will face more headaches and maybe even financial collapse before they’ll see the results they’re hoping for. Regardless, Singapore will keep its hegemony on the regional logistics after this land bridge is built, they’re not stupid enough to let it slip away.
