I’ve got Medicare with a supplement and it covers very very well. Even early on I never felt Social Security was going to provide enough money to make it. I really don’t know where that notion came from. What did “we” do before 1940?

I’ve been following your channel for a couple years! I have to admit I’m finding this documentation of your immigration process very interesting. It’s great that you’re documenting it and sharing it. Unfortunately, especially at the federal government level there is a lot of bureaucracy and things take 10x longer than they realistically should. And you are such a great role model and inspiration to those who want to immigrate here legally. I also appreciate recognizing there is no free healthcare. It’s so frustrating when people say that it’s free in other countries….it’s not. You pay for it in much higher taxes. Truth is healthcare has pros and cons no matter where you live. A lot of young families who are healthy get catastrophic insurance plans….so if you have a major healthcare incident it’s covered but routine doctor visits or occasional flu, stitches, broken arm, etc. are paid out of pocket. It sounds like that very similar to what you are getting along with the faith aspects that are included.
There is nothing free in this world anywhere. Either you, a group you belong to or folks you don't even know pays for everything. When a young 22 adult pays in $300 a month for health care and they do not go to the doctor for two years is $7,200 that pays for everyone else because they did not even use it. If they try to not have it they will be fined the same amount anyway so they are FORCED to pay it to cover other people. So no it is not free anywhere.
so happy you found this insurance. and with 4 kids you never know what's around the corner !! one of the biggest things for people here when taking a job is -does it have health insurance? many jobs do not. blessings on your journey.

That’s a great story Simeon, we use liberty health share here in our household same concept I would be interested in the share program you’ve tapped into. It sounds extremely competitive and yes, the medical system here in America has a lot of good things and not so good. Our motto is don’t get sick stay healthy don’t shop inside the Isles of the supermarket shop around the edge and grow your own food.

To balance things up a bit; we don't have the highest taxes in the world, in fact the majority of employees pay ~ 30-35% in taxes. The positive of living here is that each of us gets the same access to treatment, whether you're a CEO or a homeless person. We call it solidarity! I have relatives in NY and to me it sounds terrifying that you can actually go into personal bankruptcy due to medical bills, especially if you have a low coverage on your health insurance. 8:55 Your tagline “a cured patient is a lost customer” implies that people providing medical care in the US don’t care about your overall health; that they just want to take your money and push you out the door. I am a consumer of American healthcare and I’ve been a provider. A key part of my education and work ethic was to provide good treatment and provide a “cure” but a bigger part of that was of prevention. I truly care for my fellow human being no matter what their situation is and did my best to provide them with high-level care whether I was getting paid or not. As a consumer, my medical provider works very hard to keep me updated, provide preventive health services and order the right tests and do the right treatment when I need it. A key problem in the United States is that many, many people do not themselves do much to prevent illness or disease. They just want the doctor to cure them without much effort on their part.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I respect those. I am not wanting judge individuals or doubt peoples intentions in general. However, I believe that the pharmaceutical system is focused on treating symptoms and keeping people addicted to their drugs in many cases. A healthy diet is completely overlooked in most cases. It is a big topic for sure...
@@simeonandalex BIG topic. But, fair enough. The pharmaceutical industry can be wonderful and I’m thankful for that. Tons of medications to cure, treat or prevent a disease. As you eluded, the industry has also frequently been guilty of bad practices. There are a lot medications that wouldn’t be needed if us humans would take up healthier lifestyles. But we humans want it and ask for it (often because it seems like the easier fix.) Just like anything though. We consume the internet like it will be gone tomorrow. Same with food. And other types of media. There’s a lot of good in food, pharmaceuticals, internet and social media and all should be used cautiously, but like anything, the wrong type or amount can hurt the body and soul. In other words, just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Thanks for your channel .

We are happy to see you and your family here in America and I really had no idea that Europe was so harsh with the health care system over there but once you get settled in here, I believe you guys will do very well here and always remember that, there will be a lot of Ups and Downs in different things but that happens everywhere around the World and hopefully y'all have way more Ups than downs here in The US 🙏
It is difficult, anytime we make a transition from one country to another especially, to get situated with all of the identification methods required. I was born in the Philippines of US citizens, so I have experience with both coming to the US, dealing with culture-shock, an overseas birth certificate, as well as moving from State to State within the US. When I moved from Iowa to Colorado, from Colordo to Indiana, from Indiana to Ohio, and we from Ohio to Alaska, we had to take the written tests to obtain driver's licenses in each of those states. If our license lapses, we start from the beginning with the written tests, permits. and driving tests, just like if we were new drivers. It may be a pain, but we need to make sure everyone knows how to drive here, and is safe out on the roads. I've been driving in the US for many, many years, and each State has its own system. So take heart, it'll all come together. We all go through it even when we change states we live in. You'll be off and rolling in no time. Just make sure you get your licenses in the State you plan to reside in. One of the things we all, as citizens, try to remember is that driving is not a right, it's a privilege here in the US. We have a lot of rights, but driving is not one of them. We still have to work for it, and to maintain that privilege. As for the healthcare system here in the US... I've had multiple surgeries here, and I have Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Liver Disease, and Chronic Kidney Disease, and am currently in testing for a heart condition. So, I have a Primary Care Physician, a Nephrologist, a Cardiologist, a Rheumatologist, and a Gastroenterologist on my medical care team; all working together to help me survive longer and more comfortably. Crazy, huh? I have a lot of hours logged in our healthcare system. We have insurance through work, and it comes at a reasonable price, much like what you were quoted for your Christian-based healthcare. When I had my surgeries, the healthcare was so amazing, I didn't want to leave the hospital. No joke, they're amazing, they do stellar work, and they doted on me to the point I asked if I could have another organ removed just so I could stay a bit longer. Right now, the doctor I have here in Alaska is the best doctor I've ever had. She will literally sit with me for an hour and try to dig down to find root causes of whatever is inflaming one of my medical conditions and causing me pain, so she can help me fix it. She's not in it for the money, she's in it because she cares, and it really shows. Her whole team is the same way, and they remember incredible details about me and my life, and that translates into the most comfortable years I've had with my health in like, 20 years. What I'm finding is this kind of personable care everywhere today: In my plentiful PCP visits, in the ER when my appendix ruptured, at the lab where my blood is drawn, at the pharmacy where they check to make sure my meds all work together safely (doctors are human and make mistakes, so the pharmacy works to ensure everything is safe for me). My doctors communicate, share medical files, and work together to ensure that I thrive. As for the financial bottom-line... that's an issue we're having with drug companies and hospitals overcharging right now, and we've been working for the last 20 years to find a way to fix that. But we have to be very careful when government dips into commercial industries, because we have a lot of laws protecting commerce and industry for good reasons. It's a delicate balance, but we'll figure it out. It's on all of our minds here, and we'll get it sorted. But be assured that if you find yourself in the ER or at a doctor's office, they're going to take really, really good care of you, and if you're inclined to that sort of thing, you might be even compelled to put your care team on your Christmas card mailing list. I know I am. Hang in there, guys. It's all TOTALLY worth being here, and once you're through this very weird integration stasis stage, life is gonna get really, really good. 💜

So glad you're in the States now after all your waiting. When you spoke about your frustration of having to wait for a social security number before you can do things like get a driver's license, I remembered how my brother felt when he (a Canadian) immigrated to Sweden. He told me, "I can't do anything - even take a book out of the library - because I don't have my 'person number'. Anyway, the frustration stage will pass with time and God will supply all you need. Thanks for the videos detailing your settling in.
Beautiful story about your health care. I also appreciated your courage in revealing your beliefs. I have accepted that I contribute money to services which actually hurt people up here in Canada, including assisted death. Glad to know there are some advantages to the USA system.
When you travel east you may want to consider visiting Wisconsin. We are more north in the midwest and are known as the dairy state. There are many organic farmers here, some Amish farming communities, and Mennonite farmers, as well as Native American farmers who also grow organic. We have big ginseng farms here, and food coops that the farmers run and sell their organic meat and veggies that are delivered to people in their homes. I have an organic herb shop in Green Bay and I sell organic eggs and buy milk that comes right from the cow from a local organic farmer. We also have a very high population of Germans in Wisconsin, possibly the Germans are our highest ethnic group here. I am not German myself, but I have two German sisters-in-law. We have very rich farmland throughout the state, and lots of farming communities everywhere. Just a thought.

If you pay cash and plead your case, you can sometimes negotiate a lower price for health care than the initially quoted price. Doctors get much lower money from insurance reimbursements so are happy to negotiate a price.
I don’t know of a hospital system that doesn’t have a “bridge assistance” program. When I had a really high deductible plan and an adjusted gross income of over $70,000 I was able to get 30% off an expensive outpatient hospitalization bill. First, agree to make low payments per month and then search out their patient assistance plan. Same goes with medication. I was put on a medication for four months. The cost per month was over $800. And I found a retail pharmacy that was discounting that particular med and it was $350 for one month. Then I went to the medication website where I found a patient assistance program and got two months free. Then, the health plan I was using, their own pharmacy and the policy was to fill a three month supply when two months were written. Quite a deal and it probably took me 15 or 20 minutes of googling around and phoning to figure it out.

I'm in rural Texas and on disability. I have Medicare and supplemental insurance. I live on almost nothing. In June I totaled my truck. Went to the ER, copay was $90. Broke my wrist so had to see am orthopedist, copay was $50 per visit. X-rays were taken 3x, had a copay each time. The statements I have received show my insurance paid very little of what everyone charged. It is crazy. But I've listened to interviews with YT doctors from the UK and the system over there is literally crumbling. Least I was able to get into the small town ER immediately and the orthopedist quickly.
We were apart of a Christian medical share program for many many years and loved it! I hope you all have a speedy process with your paperwork for being over here. God bless! Oh and the down side on the share program is there is a limit they cover, and Sometimes you have to start paying for the medical stuff and then they reimburse you and that can be inconvenient… but we had a few kids during our time on the share program and it went very well but just a little more work with submitting receipts.
Welcome! That is a good and interesting concept for insurance. I used pay for my own before I got a job that provided. I had looked into the type of coverage you are talking about. My experience (and this is many years ago) was that they basically wanted only the healthiest people, which is fine. I used a tobacco product and that disqualified me up front. And that's fine. I made a choice and it didn't fit into their program. That is how they kept premiums low. Not that I'm wishing a problem, but should you ever need it, I would be interested in the payment of the bills.
Very interesting about the health care - you can support what you agree with. I am sure you will embrace the culture as you have lived in many countries. You are the sort of person that will add value wherever you go. It's sad that some people have been negative - but never mind, they will not be in your life to influence you. Also, when I came here I was told that it would take 4 weeks to get my social security card but it took 10 days and getting the license was very easy
I have had friends use the sharing type insurance programs. Some were happy and others were not. Be sure to understand how your plan works so you aren't surprised.
Your new bedroom is a little dowdy. Some brightly colored used sheets could be fixed to the walls as temporary wallpaper. Goodwill and many other second hand shops have gently used products to spruce up your temporary bedroom. I suspect Alex would appreciate some pillows and a little color, even though it's only for a few months. I'm glad to hear you comment positively about something in America; we've had a lot of bad press lately.
Moving from another state was a real pain with DMV and social security. Found that if it is a govt. place, the online stuff only works well when the offices are open for regular hours. Nights weekends, could never finish any form.
I think the idea behind the medical sharing is super. For your sake take great care to check the group you are considering out very very carefully. Another channel I watch regularly on YT had invested a monthly amout in a similar company. she needed some pretty expensive surgery. When they filed for the bill to be paid she found out that the people who started that plan was paying out zero. She had to cover the bill herself. It was "Homestead Tessie". That happened a year or two ago. But the video about her experience should still be in her former videos.
ps: Lastly, just know that if you stay here in United States until you are 65, which is the current age, you will be forced to go on Medicare no choice no option everyone must and you will be forced to pay almost $200 a month like it or not. You can still be working. You can still have your own private insurance and you will still have to join Medicare and pay.
I'm glad you found that health care group. I think you're part of the same one I've been we've been a part of for a lot of years. They've taken good care of my family, even with non-traditional care for some things. I was going to suggest it, so I'm glad you found it.

Your face at the length of the DMV/MVD line😂 our DMV here is still appointment only for drivers license, which made the wait very short but it took quite a while to get an appointment. Agree with you 100% on western healthcare. Self-employed health insurance is very expensive. There are a lot of Christian cost sharing programs that will assist you in paying your medical bills in full, Our family still can't afford that, but its something in which we hope to participate in the future
Simeon, I highly recommend the health cost-sharing programs. I was in the Christian Ministry Healthcare for several years and was very pleased with it.
I live in Sweden right now and during the last three month I went to the vardcentral (doctors house) three times without calling them and it was no problem at all, I got a good treatment.

That’s a great story Simeon, we use liberty health share here in our household same concept I would be interested in the share program you’ve tapped into. It sounds extremely competitive and yes, the medical system here in America has a lot of good things and not so good. Our motto is don’t get sick stay healthy don’t shop inside the Isles of the supermarket shop around the edge and grow your own food.

To balance things up a bit; we don't have the highest taxes in the world, in fact the majority of employees pay ~ 30-35% in taxes. The positive of living here is that each of us gets the same access to treatment, whether you're a CEO or a homeless person. We call it solidarity! I have relatives in NY and to me it sounds terrifying that you can actually go into personal bankruptcy due to medical bills, especially if you have a low coverage on your health insurance. I am a consumer of American healthcare and I’ve been a provider. A key part of my education and work ethic was to provide good treatment and provide a “cure” but a bigger part of that was of prevention.
I truly care for my fellow human being no matter what their situation is and did my best to provide them with high-level care whether I was getting paid or not.
As a consumer, my medical provider works very hard to keep me updated, provide preventive health services and order the right tests and do the right treatment when I need it.
A key problem in the United States is that many, many people do not themselves do much to prevent illness or disease. They just want the doctor to cure them without much effort on their part.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I respect those. I am not wanting judge individuals or doubt peoples intentions in general. However, I believe that the pharmaceutical system is focused on treating symptoms and keeping people addicted to their drugs in many cases. A healthy diet is completely overlooked in most cases. It is a big topic for sure...

But, fair enough. The pharmaceutical industry can be wonderful and I’m thankful for that. Tons of medications to cure, treat or prevent a disease. As you eluded, the industry has also frequently been guilty of bad practices. There are a lot medications that wouldn’t be needed if us humans would take up healthier lifestyles. But we humans want it and ask for it (often because it seems like the easier fix.)
Just like anything though. We consume the internet like it will be gone tomorrow. Same with food. And other types of media.
There’s a lot of good in food, pharmaceuticals, internet and social media and all should be used cautiously, but like anything, the wrong type or amount can hurt the body and soul.
In other words, just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

It is difficult, anytime we make a transition from one country to another especially, to get situated with all of the identification methods required. I was born in the Philippines of US citizens, so I have experience with both coming to the US, dealing with culture-shock, an overseas birth certificate, as well as moving from State to State within the US. When I moved from Iowa to Colorado, from Colordo to Indiana, from Indiana to Ohio, and we from Ohio to Alaska, we had to take the written tests to obtain driver's licenses in each of those states. If our license lapses, we start from the beginning with the written tests, permits. and driving tests, just like if we were new drivers. It may be a pain, but we need to make sure everyone knows how to drive here, and is safe out on the roads. I've been driving in the US for many, many years, and each State has its own system. So take heart, it'll all come together. We all go through it even when we change states we live in. You'll be off and rolling in no time. Just make sure you get your licenses in the State you plan to reside in. One of the things we all, as citizens, try to remember is that driving is not a right, it's a privilege here in the US. We have a lot of rights, but driving is not one of them. We still have to work for it, and to maintain that privilege.
As for the healthcare system here in the US... I've had multiple surgeries here, and I have Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Liver Disease, and Chronic Kidney Disease, and am currently in testing for a heart condition. So, I have a Primary Care Physician, a Nephrologist, a Cardiologist, a Rheumatologist, and a Gastroenterologist on my medical care team; all working together to help me survive longer and more comfortably. Crazy, huh? I have a lot of hours logged in our healthcare system. We have insurance through work, and it comes at a reasonable price, much like what you were quoted for your Christian-based healthcare. When I had my surgeries, the healthcare was so amazing, I didn't want to leave the hospital. No joke, they're amazing, they do stellar work, and they doted on me to the point I asked if I could have another organ removed just so I could stay a bit longer. Right now, the doctor I have here in Alaska is the best doctor I've ever had. She will literally sit with me for an hour and try to dig down to find root causes of whatever is inflaming one of my medical conditions and causing me pain, so she can help me fix it. She's not in it for the money, she's in it because she cares, and it really shows. Her whole team is the same way, and they remember incredible details about me and my life, and that translates into the most comfortable years I've had with my health in like, 20 years. What I'm finding is this kind of personable care everywhere today: In my plentiful PCP visits, in the ER when my appendix ruptured, at the lab where my blood is drawn, at the pharmacy where they check to make sure my meds all work together safely (doctors are human and make mistakes, so the pharmacy works to ensure everything is safe for me). My doctors communicate, share medical files, and work together to ensure that I thrive. As for the financial bottom-line... that's an issue we're having with drug companies and hospitals overcharging right now, and we've been working for the last 20 years to find a way to fix that. But we have to be very careful when government dips into commercial industries, because we have a lot of laws protecting commerce and industry for good reasons. It's a delicate balance, but we'll figure it out. It's on all of our minds here, and we'll get it sorted. But be assured that if you find yourself in the ER or at a doctor's office, they're going to take really, really good care of you, and if you're inclined to that sort of thing, you might be even compelled to put your care team on your Christmas card mailing list. I know I am. Hang in there, guys. It's all TOTALLY worth being here, and once you're through this very weird integration stasis stage, life is gonna get really, really good. 💜

So glad you're in the States now after all your waiting. When you spoke about your frustration of having to wait for a social security number before you can do things like get a driver's license, I remembered how my brother felt when he (a Canadian) immigrated to Sweden. He told me, "I can't do anything - even take a book out of the library - because I don't have my 'person number'. Anyway, the frustration stage will pass with time and God will supply all you need. When you travel east you may want to consider visiting Wisconsin. We are more north in the midwest and are known as the dairy state. There are many organic farmers here, some Amish farming communities, and Mennonite farmers, as well as Native American farmers who also grow organic. We have big ginseng farms here, and food coops that the farmers run and sell their organic meat and veggies that are delivered to people in their homes. I have an organic herb shop in Green Bay and I sell organic eggs and buy milk that comes right from the cow from a local organic farmer. We also have a very high population of Germans in Wisconsin, possibly the Germans are our highest ethnic group here. I am not German myself, but I have two German sisters-in-law. We have very rich farmland throughout the state, and lots of farming communities everywhere. Just a thought.

If you pay cash and plead your case, you can sometimes negotiate a lower price for health care than the initially quoted price. Doctors get much lower money from insurance reimbursements so are happy to negotiate a price.
I don’t know of a hospital system that doesn’t have a “bridge assistance” program.
When I had a really high deductible plan and an adjusted gross income of over $70,000 I was able to get 30% off an expensive outpatient hospitalization bill.
First, agree to make low payments per month and then search out their patient assistance plan. Same goes with medication. I was put on a medication for four months. The cost per month was over $800. And I found a retail pharmacy that was discounting that particular med and it was $350 for one month.
Then I went to the medication website where I found a patient assistance program and got two months free.
Then, the health plan I was using, their own pharmacy and the policy was to fill a three month supply when two months were written.
Quite a deal and it probably took me 15 or 20 minutes of googling around and phoning to figure it out.

I'm in rural Texas and on disability. I have Medicare and supplemental insurance. I live on almost nothing. In June I totaled my truck. Went to the ER, copay was $90. Broke my wrist so had to see am orthopedist, copay was $50 per visit. X-rays were taken 3x, had a copay each time. The statements I have received show my insurance paid very little of what everyone charged. It is crazy. But I've listened to interviews with YT doctors from the UK and the system over there is literally crumbling. Least I was able to get into the small town ER immediately and the orthopedist quickly.
We were apart of a Christian medical share program for many many years and loved it! I hope you all have a speedy process with your paperwork for being over here. God bless! Oh and the down side on the share program is there is a limit they cover, and Sometimes you have to start paying for the medical stuff and then they reimburse you and that can be inconvenient… but we had a few kids during our time on the share program and it went very well but just a little more work with submitting receipts.

Welcome! That is a good and interesting concept for insurance. I used pay for my own before I got a job that provided. I had looked into the type of coverage you are talking about. My experience (and this is many years ago) was that they basically wanted only the healthiest people, which is fine. I used a tobacco product and that disqualified me up front. And that's fine. I made a choice and it didn't fit into their program. That is how they kept premiums low. Not that I'm wishing a problem, but should you ever need it, I would be interested in the payment of the bills.
I think you fit right in in the US with your mindset.
Very interesting about the health care - you can support what you agree with. I am sure you will embrace the culture as you have lived in many countries. You are the sort of person that will add value wherever you go. It's sad that some people have been negative - but never mind, they will not be in your life to influence you. Also, when I came here I was told that it would take 4 weeks to get my social security card but it took 10 days and getting the license was very easy
I have had friends use the sharing type insurance programs. Some were happy and others were not. Be sure to understand how your plan works so you aren't surprised.
Your new bedroom is a little dowdy. Some brightly colored used sheets could be fixed to the walls as temporary wallpaper. Goodwill and many other second hand shops have gently used products to spruce up your temporary bedroom. I suspect Alex would appreciate some pillows and a little color, even though it's only for a few months. I'm glad to hear you comment positively about something in America; we've had a lot of bad press lately.

Moving from another state was a real pain with DMV and social security. Found that if it is a govt. place, the online stuff only works well when the offices are open for regular hours. Nights weekends, could never finish any form.
I think the idea behind the medical sharing is super. For your sake take great care to check the group you are considering out very very carefully. Another channel I watch regularly on YT had invested a monthly amout in a similar company. she needed some pretty expensive surgery. When they filed for the bill to be paid she found out that the people who started that plan was paying out zero. She had to cover the bill herself. It was "Homestead Tessie". That happened a year or two ago. But the video about her experience should still be in her former videos.

ps: Lastly, just know that if you stay here in United States until you are 65, which is the current age, you will be forced to go on Medicare no choice no option everyone must and you will be forced to pay almost $200 a month like it or not. You can still be working. You can still have your own private insurance and you will still have to join Medicare and pay.
I'm glad you found that health care group. I think you're part of the same one I've been we've been a part of for a lot of years. They've taken good care of my family, even with non-traditional care for some things. I was going to suggest it, so I'm glad you found it.

Agree with you 100% on western healthcare. Self-employed health insurance is very expensive. There are a lot of Christian cost sharing programs that will assist you in paying your medical bills in full, Our family still can't afford that, but its something in which we hope to participate in the future

I live in Sweden right now and during the last three month I went to the vardcentral (doctors house) three times without calling them and it was no problem at all, I got a good treatment.
