I enjoyed your Video. Well Done! My Wife loved the Music and so did I. It was entertaining. Don't listen to the old Curmudgeons.
Good Video, They make a water-based Grip tape, yours was solvent based is why the water didn't work.
I have used Air for several years now, Less hassle.
The only thing you need to do is drop the Volume on your music, Dang it got loud, then when you started talking it was very low volume. 😉😉😁
Great video! Helpful, informative and entertaining. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much!!
Lighter fluid works really well.
I've been using Ronson lighter fluid for years. Works great and is cheap.
Yep, Ronson for Zippo lighters is the best
I have used liquid dish soap with no problems. Just takes a bit longer to dry. Smear a bit over the tape, spread a bit on the grip opening and slide on.
Good to know!
No way. That sounds terrible
Have used soap water also. No problems
100% correct. Diluted dawn dish soap works great. Been using for 40 plus years. No issues. 24 hour dry time. Recently I tried dawn power wash, it contains alcohol, works fine, dry time cut in half.
well im glad it wasnt just me. I tried doing my own for the first time but didnt have any solvent. Used soapy water and couldnt get them on at all. Will prepare for next time and save some money at the pro shop
I use Ronson lighter fluid. Works great and it's cheap. Goes on easy, dries fast.
That sounds way better than dish soap 😂
Thank you for sharing and I've been using the air and water and it works too.
Great review! Thanks for sharing!
I use grip tape made to use water and it works great and less messy you can buy on line from golf works
Thats very cool! I didn't know they sold that. Does it work well?
@@vanquishgolfworks Yes using the grip tape with water works great and you don't need to use a pail underneath.. Golf works sells it online and it works as good as solvent but without the mess Its made to use just with water and slides on easily
Thanks for the video, I just regripped a driver and almost didn't get it on
Tip.......don't wear rubber gloves they just slip on the grip as you push....paper towel like you used works out well..
The think that you are missing is water with a little dishwashing soap.
And a properly is going to use mineralspiret when a will regreap my clubs.
I have no compressor, and have the sperit standing around. So thanks for the info
Brilliant vid…. Thank you! 👍
Fun video. The poking of the tape at the end of the grip... why, wouldn't that just make it easier for debree to come into the shaft overtime, not a big concern but I've just never done that, so I am curious why you would do it?
Thanks Greg! I've been building golf clubs for a long time and neve seen "debris" collect in a golf shaft from having a whole at the end of the grip. I usually just poke it to help get some of the excess solvent out after you've put the grip on. Once you've poked it, you can flip it upside down and tap the butt cap on something a few times to get as much solvent out as possible. That will just make the grips dry a little quicker.
@@vanquishgolfworks thank you! Just pulled the trigger on an air compressor for my next set of grips between all the content I’ve seen from Mobile Club Maker and channels like yourself I don’t know why I keep using solvent.
@@GregPace That's awesome! Have fun and let me know if you have any questions when installing your first couple of grips.
Would have liked to see you try alcohol since it is readily available. Suspect results would have been similar to water, but you never know. I have been using the air method now for about 6 months, and that is my preferred method for my own clubs. You have to pay more attention to the grip core size and shaft diameter using air. A .600" core grip could end up loose if installed on a .580" shaft without adding additional layers of tape.
Alcohol is a good idea but I think it would work just like water, as you said. Good to know about the extra tape for air.
Try using charcoal lighter fluid. Been using it for years. Work great.
Good video, but, please turn down the music. I use charcoal starter which is basically mineral spirits and cheaper.
I use coleman lantern fuel...works great...I picked up a gallon at an estate sale for $5...a gallon will last me a lifetime
Why do you poke the end of the grip? Surely all sorts of dirt and muck can get in, causing rattles?
Here's what I learned in the past; Acetone is used to REMOVE THE TAPE, there is a water based grip tape that I have used and work very well, the only cost for using air is the purchase of an air compressor and the electricity to operate it, it isn't FREE.
It isn't free but comparatively on a grip to grip basis the cost is much lower and much less of a hassle.
I use air with water for some lub it’s easy on and dries quickly
I use Varsol, cheap and it works!
You need that little air adapter thing you used though
You do but that adapter piece is only like $8
Nah, the hole at the end of most grips will fit an air nozzle nib just fine. A cheap air gun for your compressor probably came in the accessories, but if not is just a few bucks.
Naptha is what the old timers used. Readily available at Lowes.
Naptha works well for sure! Forgot about that one.
Air may be free but the compressor is really expensive. Solvent and a $5 spray bottle from the Dollar Store (plug). Cheap, effective, arrives at your door in 24 hours.
HF-100 is totally awesome and you only need a light mist from a pump sprayer. It's like cologne. Just do a few sprays on the taped shaft over your bathroom sink and the grips slide on super easy. I did all mine by hand, no stupid vice or fancy drip tray. If you're dripping solvent you've used way too much. The little bottle that came with my grips is probably enough to last me the next decade. It's only like a few bucks shipped--- all these other inferior solvents and your dish soap are way more expensive.
Where is link to tools needed.... I can't find it on my mobile device.
Check the video description. Everything is linked there.
Thanks. Am I correct in that you are using just standard painters masking tape?
The tape that I used to "build up" and thicken the grip is 2" wide single sided masking tape. The other tape is special golf grip 2" double sided sticky tape.
Did you use double stick tape for the air or just masking tape?
I use spray paint on my motorcycle grips and it works fantastic
Does mineral spirits mess up the paint on a graphite shaft?
Naphtha works well for me
I noticed that you puncture the end of the grip after installing it. Why do you do it? Thank you.
so just to clear up the air app,, is just one sided masking tape all u use with air pressure? or should u use two sided tape and will the air make it slide on just as easy?
Just use single sided tape when installing it with air. The grip stays on just fine without the tape helping it "stick". Using double sided tape would make it really tricky to install without some kind of lubrication.
@@vanquishgolfworks your right,, it does work,, just fit 2 grips and removed two and re griped them again.2 tapes on a jumbo grip... I use a bike pump,, hard to hold ,, so I clamped the pump on to my small step ladder..and I used a air comp,, it nearly exploded the grip.. all good in the end. thanks.. I also built a shaft extractor out of 2 hand held vices, Crude, simple, effective and cute is all I can say.. I might post it once I do a few shaft changes.
@@samrad1745 Yep! Gotta watch out for that air pressure with a compressor. Certain grips aren't made for air install so they can inflate if there's no where for the air to escape.
I tried using single sided tape with air and the grips would end up spinning on the shaft after a few hits with the club. I went back to using double sided tape and solvent. Maybe I should try the double sided tape and air next time.
@@jhooton75 I haven't tried it yet but i'm guessing you can just put an extra layer of tape on to clear the gap.
If you do air can you remove them with air after a year of using?
Yep you should be able to no problem.
Fun fact, KY works, gotta be quick though...
10 points to you sir.
You can also use varnish
Good to know!!
Ever try soapy water just add a few drops of dawn dish soap to a spray bottle full of water
I misspoke. Why leave one dry side on the double sided tape?
Typically double sided tape is used as the "top" layer when installing a grip using solvent. You wrap that tape all the way around the shaft like I did in the video. Then, no matter what, you always cover the entire piece of tape with the solvent and wet everything including the inside of the grip.
If installing with air then you can use one sided tape or masking tape. Then you don't have to wet anything.
Does that answer your question?
Have you tried soap water?
You only removed one side of the double sided tape. Why not both sides ?
charcoal lighter fluid works great and its 5$ a bottle.
What does the poking do? Thanks!
It just helps get rid of some of the extra solvent after installation. Not 100% necessary.
What is the purpose of "poking" the end after the grip goes on?
I suspect in case the folded over tape seals off the shaft, preventing condensation inside from drying out.
Is white spirit a mineral spirit?
I’m more interested removing a wrist lock without damaging it.
Sounds great. I might make a video of that. However, the easiest way is to get one of the golf works grip removal rods and use a bunch of solvent.
Solvent is no smell mineral spirits
Water will work, but needs water tape.
WD40 also works...
Water with soap?
I'm not sure if that would work. Water on its own really didn't work but I could see the soap adding enough lubrication to do it. Give it a shot!
Others in the comments have actually said they tried soapy water and it did not work.
Please reduce the Music Volume I have had to turn it down 25%
Have seen many grip videos including tour vans. Never seen anyone “poke it” in the rear to finish. Might be a poor choice of words. 🤔 😅
Hahah poking it just helps get rid of some of the excess solvent. Poke it, flip it, and shake it!
Isopropyl 99% you think it’s similar to mineral spirits
Gas works well.
Like gasoline? Good to know. Probably not ideal for the smell and getting it on your hands!
That's what I use. I like the sense of danger involved with regripping my clubs. Don't forget to turn off your furnace if you're in your basement though. I'm not making that mistake again. 🙂
Some useful info but lose the nonsensical opening dialogue.
Good video ruined by poor choice of music and loud as hell!
Great gripping tips, but loose the annoying music…please!!
hank you! What would you recommend instead?
@@vanquishgolfworks even just lowering the volume. Then we could hear what you’re saying better and enjoy your awesome videos better. Thanks
@@larrywithrow5876 I've been working on that with my most recent videos. They should be better. Professional editors are also like $150-$75 / hr. So I've been editing it myself and learning along the way
@@vanquishgolfworks totally understandable. It takes a while to figure things out sometimes, and you’re doing a great job!,👍 I always appreciate “constructive “ feedback, especially when you’re trying your best to figure things out on your own. Please keep those videos coming😎👊
@Larry Withrow what would you like to see a video about next?
I'm not sure that the Acetone nor the Water was given a real good chance. You didn't even get the grip opening over the edge of the shaft.
Acetone and water were cheated out of a proper test. And . . . . . . ? How much time I wasted watching you do the same thing over and over prior to testing the liquids and having to listen to that stupid tune.
I implore you to go ahead and give both of them a shot for yourself. When you do it yourself you'll see pretty quickly that neither of those are options.
You also could have just skipped to the end or or jumped around in the video to see the results rather than complaining about it in the comments.
