Embark on a journey through the chilling layers of the NKVD, akin to exploring an iceberg from its tip to its submerged depths. Begin with the notorious actions of Lavrentiy Beria and Nikolai Yezhov, the visible peak of the NKVD's chilling legacy during the Great Purge. Then, venture deeper, unraveling the equally disturbing mid-level operatives before diving into the obscured, deeply sinister characters within the NKVD's history. Hold on for a swift but spine-tingling ride through the darkest echelons of this infamous security force.

To add to this iceberg: NKVD and Gestapo/Nazis cooperated before the war. There was a knowledge exchange programme in place that resulted in them learning from one another on how to do their job, track people, interrogate and even kill. The idea of using gas to kill people came from that (you mentioned the trucks, Germany also used those initially but it was too inefficient and expensive when fuel was a strategic resource) also came from this. So the synergy of the two monsters made them stronger.
In general, there is a belief that if it wasn't for the fact that Hitler had Stalin and Stalin had Hitler (as allies), none of them would eventually decide on starting the war in Europe...
No wonder the Poles go insane when they hear people saying good stuff about either communism or facism. It's like mixing ammonia with bleach...

@rexlumontad5644 The Soviet Union was the first of its kind and as such had only itself and its slaves to support itself with, and it was very dedicated to the isolationism and xenophobia towards other nations that a true communist state usually has (that’s not to say they were true to many of the other principles of communism). North Korea was a pawn and a pet of two superpowers, both China and the Soviet Union, so they had the backing of the entire communist world behind them. Remove the support of the communist world, but leave several dozen nukes behind, add the fact that there’s nothing commercially valuable in North Korea (unlike certain natural resources in say, the Middle East) and the fact that North Korea isn’t actively trying to destabilize any other countries and establish other communist states (like the Soviet Union was), and you have a recipe for why no one has really put any effort into trying to destroy or conquer them. They’re also pretty darn good at brainwashing their people, and they’re right on China’s doorstep, so any attempt at the establishment of a non-communist state there would be taken as an act of aggression and war by China in the exact same way they did during the Korean War

Not good, but they are better. Their goal is American interests and American defense, and they've killed a fraction of the number of their own citizens then the NKVD/KGB. The KGB controlled Stasi were considered every bit as bad as the SS, only more competent. Hell the US made its rocket scientists wealthy while the man who helped run the Soviet space program died due to injuries he sustained being tortured by the NKVD/KGB, and many who worked om their space program did so from research gulags

Beria wanted to dismantle the USSR right after Stalin's death. He also wasn't a sexual sadist and hated both Stalin and his methods. His portrait in this video if simply re-telling lies his comrades invented after his trial, like there was no one to help him overthrow the highest command - Zhukov wanted to start a coup earlier but Beria stopped him, believing in his good fortune. This was probably one of the most important decisions in the XX century.
Also during Beria's 100 days, he released over a million prisoners from Gulags.

Great heroes who stooped to the darkest depths of humanity to keep the light of it's salvation bright!
Without their sacrifice of their humanity many innocent would either have to soil their hands with the same work or would have to face the oppressors that they kept away.

If you want to see a video on the cia then ask for one instead of claiming bias.
Also be harder as most CIA agents stayed out American political conflicts and focused on stuff like coups and assassinations instead.
