Nah, it’s more that most people didn’t have access to internet capable of mega high bandwidth video streaming yet, and YT/Netflix hadn’t taken off in terms of offering streamable content that could replace TV. Rock of Love was what you watched while you scrolled MySpace or early Facebook. The show was still airing new episodes when Twitter was around and popular. It’s not about social media and more just about streaming technology
Megan from this show was also attracted to a millionaire scammer who ended up murdering his wife. I don’t think any of them had a sound dating compass.
That "tattoo" shirt reminds me of buying my nephew clothes when he was a toddler. I'd get him a shirt that had a tennis racket, soccer ball, and a frisbee and just said SPORTS in big letters hahaha.

It was mostly for publicity. Brett was released a solo album that year and the theme song was the leading single from it ("Go that far"). I think he knew that his image was slowly losing relevance, hell even some of the women on the show never had heard his music with Poison before so yeah lol. The red haired girl Lacey actually does a podcast called "Talk of Love" where she talks with her fellow cast mates as well as some other reality tv show contestants and you learn a little more about what went on with the show. One that stuck out was that a lot of the girls didn't even know Brett was gonna be the bachelor. Apparently they were only told that the guy was gonna be someone from a popular rock band but only Lacey knew who it was gonna be because she already had the foresight that the show was gonna be staged for entertainment and not serious.
It seems every decade, pop culture likes to revisit or revive what was trendy 20-25 years earlier. The 2000s was definitely full of 80s nostalgia, so the fact that Bret Michaels got his own dating show during the 2000s and got brought back into the public consciousness isn’t that surprising. Vh1 in particular had lots of programming dedicated to bringing washed up stars back in the spotlight.
Third season I felt like the girls didn’t even care about Bret. They were all there for TV time and free alcohol. Mindy was the only one simping for the guy 😂
The third season was the best to me because it was such a train wreck. The girls were partying hard and was so funny and had personality which made it enjoyable to watch. I could care less about Brett 😂
I didn't know until now there was a third season and might check it out, just to see if it's as bad or worse than the other two. I watched all of the second season and two episodes of the first. The first two were a bit of a contradiction; awful and beyond cringy on the one hand, yet difficult not to watch, because of the WTF?! factor alone.
I watched all 3 seasons last year and the main thing I remember is one of the season finals where he opens up to one of the girls about having diabetes like he could die at any moment and putting his insulin on the table and being like this is my life it's in your hands.
During Season 2 when Destiny is choosing how and where she wants the tattoo. She ends up deciding to use just the logo of the t.v show. However, Bret seemed to be a tad frustrated. A bit annoyed that Destiny did not want the tattoo to say "Rock of Love". She just wanted the heart with the two daggers. It appeared that his wittle feewings were hurt because he almost tried to coax her into getting her to put "Rock of Love". He even went as far to bring up the fact that Heather tattooed his name without a second thought. Eluding to the fact that if Heather was so gung-ho about marking her body with his name. That Destiny should follow suit and put "Rock of Love" along with the logo on her body as well. Because people will know that "Rock of Love" was the show where all of these women came out to vie, to compete for Bret Michaels affection. Where as the heart with daggers could be thought of as just another random tattoo. It's almost like he wants these women to be branded by him. Mine, Mine, these women are Mine!!! Dude wants to come off as nice but in reality he is just another narcissistic musician.
All right I’m kind of ashamed to admit this, but I watched all three seasons as they premiered on cable TV fucking years ago. And I can guarantee you he don’t have hair underneath that bandana, it’s a hairpiece. Every time they have a shot with him without a hat or whatever, which wasn’t often, you can tell it’s a wig. He is definitely bald on top!

"I wouldn't want to touch his backstage pass." I was taken to a Poison concert at 16. A security guard told me that if I lifted up my shirt he could get me backstage. I just yelled "I'm 16 you fucking pervert!" That kind of make me uncomfortable with Poison from that point on. It just a lot of icky.

I went from my big sister loving Poison as a kid, (Hair Metal. Before she hit poverty that was her jam.) The day of the concert I had warm fuzzy nostalgia; secretly wishing my sister had taken me UNTIL I had the run in with the security guard. Then...I wanted to beat the hell out of grown men. I had rage. But I also kind stopped seeing them as I did, I didn't want to hear them. I didn't want to see them. It was just. Nasty ass old men with highly questionable employees. That I kinda still regret not sucker punching. I didn't watch the show. I assume as people know the name of his security guards, they were on the show. At the concert they were just guys in shirts that said security. It's not like they had clip on name tags clipped to them like a Cosco employee. There were laminated passes on, wide..not ribbon as ribbon implies satiny material, it was more of a heavier material, they had those around thier necks. But it's not I was going to get close enough to read them. I am sure there were IDs there but I wasn't going to get close to them. I was kind of surrounded but old, creepy, security guards,, and I etched out my space. He was taller than me maybe 6'0 - 6'2, he had work boots on so that could have added to his height. He wasn't huge. My uncle is 6'5, that's my reference for tall men. You could tell he used to be fit and he just let it go. Had a beer gut. Little man boob going on. He had really sad facial hair. Dark. I wouldn't see his hair on his head as he had had on a bandanna. He has on sunglasses. He dipped his sunglasses down when he looked at me and talked to me. He didn't look at me like a person. He looked at me the same way I look at classic cars. (Like damn that is a fine piece of machinery.) He smelled like beer and rancid B.O. Which is normal at a rock concert. He was big....but in my opinion not big enough to earn the nickname Big. Maybe to normal people that is big. In my family I have big Jason Momoa built uncles. So he was more creepy than big to me at the time. One of the security guards who I foolishly thought would step in and say something about me being underage had some vicious cold sores. I remember thinking, that looks highly contagious. Took a few steps back. They were defending me, they looked at me like this was normal, and one looked like he had agressive face HERPES, so I needed a some physical distance between my underage self and the adult security guards.
My mom would watch Flavor Flav or however you spell it. Sometimes I would watch it with her, and it was so terrible, but good😂 I was also in elementary at the time lmao

Of all the million reasons why the show was absurd, it never crossed my mind in 2007 that Bret Michaels was at least one decade removed from being relevant. Hell, my girlfriend was in one of their music videos when she was like 14 (just swept by the camera for like 3 seconds). She's 46 now.
He was losing a lot of relevancy prior to that and I think the reason why he did the show was to rejuvenate his music career because around this time, he was releasing a solo album and the show's theme song "Go That Far" was one of the singles from it.
I watched all the trashy reality shows....Flavor Flav, New York, Tila Tequila and Bret Michaels....and I loved them all. The extreme cringe is what made them so damn entertaining 😂 I miss those days.

The best scene in Flavor of Love is when the woman dropped a deuce on the carpet and said she thought she only farted. I damned near wet myself laughing.

I dude this show is pure gold. It could never exist now. It had to have been made right at that time, and it’s absolutely fucking ridiculous and embarrassing but also perfectly encapsulates that period of time. It’s almost poetic in a coked out diabetic way.
Remember watching one of these seasons and the last two girls were the girl next door and the ex-stripper. The whole season Brett talked about getting screwed over by strippers his whole life. Nearly every episode he talked about how it negatively it affected him. I figured it was pretty blatant foreshadowing who he was going to pick. . .but nope, he picked the stripper. Found out they only lasted a few months before he dumped her. Classic Brett Michaels.
That was season 3 and honestly Taya who was penthouse pet & ex stripper deserved it more. She nailed all the challenges and was very supportive to the so called " Door Next door", who was a absolute back stabbing ⛱️ to Taya
It felt like Bret was trying soooooo hard to make himself relevant. You can tell when someone is insecure or embarrassed with their current reality when they have to constantly overshare, overshow, and act oversexed.
And now Lacey has her own show here on RUclips. Her podcast is called "Talk of Love", and she interviews the people who were on all those old VH1 "of Love" shows from back in the day. Its pretty good!
I met daisy at a strip club many years ago. She was a doll. So freaking sweet. She was rushing guys through to meet her and spent 15-20 min with me. We looked at each other’s tatts and she told me about new ones she wanted. She gave me such a sweet hug at the end. I adored her. When one on one with a woman, she was a delight.

One of the funniest things I found about this show is that it seemed that many of these women were too young to actually be fans of his when he was relevant. In the late 80’s, early 90’s many of these women were babies and really young children when he was at his peak. And Poison’s legacy, while they were successful at the time, is not comparable to a Guns and Roses, Metallica, Nirvana or any of the other great bands of the 90s. There’s a reason Slash, James Hetfieid, and Dave Grohl need not resort to cheesy reality tv dating shows in order to make a buck. I found it really hard to believe that these women were actually fans of his. Clearly they just wanted to be on tv. I think the show would’ve been more interesting if it was comprised of the more legit fans- middle aged, lots of city miles, stories from back in the day about how they used to give BJ’s to roadies to get back stage. That would’ve be a show worth watching. But Michaels and the production team clearly wanted younger ladies to bolster his ego.

Okay, I know Brett. I’ve worked with Brett. The Brett you described is not the Brett I know. I was the lead singer of a band that played in the same clubs Poison played and we would all hang out after shows and work together. This was before C.C.Deville joined the band. We all lived the crazy rock star lifestyle, sex, drugs and rock & roll. Brett COULD NOT do everything the rest of us did else because of his diabetes. He and I had several long conversations about life. He is not the cringey character you made him out to be. He is actually a very sweet, good-hearted guy. This was a character he was playing because that’s what is expected on that show. The GATE KEEPERS insist on it. I could go on but everyone deserves some privacy, even a rock star. During Season 2 when Destiny is choosing how and where she wants the tattoo. She ends up deciding to use just the logo of the t.v show. However, Bret seemed to be a tad frustrated. A bit annoyed that Destiny did not want the tattoo to say "Rock of Love". She just wanted the heart with the two daggers. It appeared that his wittle feewings were hurt because he almost tried to coax her into getting her to put "Rock of Love". He even went as far to bring up the fact that Heather tattooed his name without a second thought. Eluding to the fact that if Heather was so gung-ho about marking her body with his name. That Destiny should follow suit and put "Rock of Love" along with the logo on her body as well. Because people will know that "Rock of Love" was the show where all of these women came out to vie, to compete for Bret Michaels affection. Where as the heart with daggers could be thought of as just another random tattoo. It's almost like he wants these women to be branded by him. Mine, Mine, these women are Mine!!! Dude wants to come off as nice but in reality he is just another narcissistic musician.

And I can guarantee you he don’t have hair underneath that bandana, it’s a hairpiece. Every time they have a shot with him without a hat or whatever, which wasn’t often, you can tell it’s a wig. He is definitely bald on top!

I went from my big sister loving Poison as a kid, (Hair Metal. Before she hit poverty that was her jam.) The day of the concert I had warm fuzzy nostalgia; secretly wishing my sister had taken me UNTIL I had the run in with the security guard. Then...I wanted to beat the hell out of grown men. I had rage. But I also kind stopped seeing them as I did, I didn't want to hear them. I didn't want to see them. It was just. Nasty ass old men with highly questionable employees. That I kinda still regret not sucker punching.
I didn't watch the show. I assume as people know the name of his security guards, they were on the show. At the concert they were just guys in shirts that said security. It's not like they had clip on name tags clipped to them like a Cosco employee. There were laminated passes on, wide..not ribbon as ribbon implies satiny material, it was more of a heavier material, they had those around thier necks. But it's not I was going to get close enough to read them. I am sure there were IDs there but I wasn't going to get close to them. I was kind of surrounded but old, creepy, security guards,, and I etched out my space. He was taller than me maybe 6'0 - 6'2, he had work boots on so that could have added to his height. He wasn't huge. My uncle is 6'5, that's my reference for tall men. You could tell he used to be fit and he just let it go. Had a beer gut. Little man boob going on. He had really sad facial hair. Dark. I wouldn't see his hair on his head as he had had on a bandanna. He has on sunglasses. He dipped his sunglasses down when he looked at me and talked to me. He didn't look at me like a person. He looked at me the same way I look at classic cars. (Like damn that is a fine piece of machinery.) He smelled like beer and rancid B.O. Which is normal at a rock concert. He was big....but in my opinion not big enough to earn the nickname Big. Maybe to normal people that is big. In my family I have big Jason Momoa built uncles. So he was more creepy than big to me at the time.
One of the security guards who I foolishly thought would step in and say something about me being underage had some vicious cold sores. I remember thinking, that looks highly contagious. Took a few steps back. They were defending me, they looked at me like this was normal, and one looked like he had agressive face HERPES, so I needed a some physical distance between my underage self and the adult security guards.

Of all the million reasons why the show was absurd, it never crossed my mind in 2007 that Bret Michaels was at least one decade removed from being relevant. Hell, my girlfriend was in one of their music videos when she was like 14 (just swept by the camera for like 3 seconds). She's 46 now.
He was losing a lot of relevancy prior to that and I think the reason why he did the show was to rejuvenate his music career because around this time, he was releasing a solo album and the show's theme song "Go That Far" was one of the singles from it.
The man still lived in 1990, mentally that is.

I dude this show is pure gold. It could never exist now. It had to have been made right at that time, and it’s absolutely fucking ridiculous and embarrassing but also perfectly encapsulates that period of time. It’s almost poetic in a coked out diabetic way.
Remember watching one of these seasons and the last two girls were the girl next door and the ex-stripper. The whole season Brett talked about getting screwed over by strippers his whole life. Nearly every episode he talked about how it negatively it affected him. I figured it was pretty blatant foreshadowing who he was going to pick. . .but nope, he picked the stripper. Found out they only lasted a few months before he dumped her.

That was season 3 and honestly Taya who was penthouse pet & ex stripper deserved it more. She nailed all the challenges and was very supportive to the so called " Door Next door", who was a absolute back stabbing ⛱️ to Taya

One of the funniest things I found about this show is that it seemed that many of these women were too young to actually be fans of his when he was relevant. In the late 80’s, early 90’s many of these women were babies and really young children when he was at his peak. And Poison’s legacy, while they were successful at the time, is not comparable to a Guns and Roses, Metallica, Nirvana or any of the other great bands of the 90s. There’s a reason Slash, James Hetfieid, and Dave Grohl need not resort to cheesy reality tv dating shows in order to make a buck. I found it really hard to believe that these women were actually fans of his. Clearly they just wanted to be on tv. I think the show would’ve been more interesting if it was comprised of the more legit fans- middle aged, lots of city miles, stories from back in the day about how they used to give BJ’s to roadies to get back stage. That would’ve be a show worth watching. But Michaels and the production team clearly wanted younger ladies to bolster his ego.

Okay, I know Brett. I’ve worked with Brett. The Brett you described is not the Brett I know. I was the lead singer of a band that played in the same clubs Poison played and we would all hang out after shows and work together. This was before C.C.Deville joined the band. We all lived the crazy rock star lifestyle, sex, drugs and rock & roll. Brett COULD NOT do everything the rest of us did else because of his diabetes. He and I had several long conversations about life. He is not the cringey character you made him out to be. He is actually a very sweet, good-hearted guy. This was a character he was playing because that’s what is expected on that show. The GATE KEEPERS insist on it. I could go on but everyone deserves some privacy, even a rock star. If you want the real story behind this show, contact him and interview him about it. I’m sure he would be happy to talk to you.

Someone from that show did a postcast with Lacey (from ROL) and she said that girl asked to go to the bathroom several times and they kept saying no. They were filming for hours. At the time I laughed but now I think that's really sad and embarrassing!

@@benjaminperez6756 Def Leppard have 2 diamond albums (10 million) and they're in the rock and roll hall of fame. Poison are opening for Def Leppard on their stadium tour with Motley Crue. It's safe to say Def Leppard is one of the biggest bands of the 80s. Poison just wasn't on that level.
@@henrydrummond5902 I believe he meant they were the biggest 80s hair metal band in terms of how far they took the clothing, makeup, theatrics. When you think of the bands that took it the furthest, Poison is right up there. Even their songs, all of them, fit right into the category of hair metal. He isn't saying they were more successful but they are the peak of everything that defines the genre. lol

Fun bonus fact: Daisy's ex Charles was (is?) the frontman for a band in Denver called Seraphim Shock. When I was a personal trainer at a gym in the area in the mid-2000s, he'd come in to work out, still fully decked out in the bandana and hat, eyeliner, ripped jeans and bracelets. He couldn't ever drop the "rockstar" facade.
