They realize some people who just started playing the game struggle so much that they couldn't really understand what to do (maybe also because of how many shits suddenly shoved on the players when they just started, i realize this after watching clay and quirk 😂).
The real game is how to manage the gacha pulls and how to optimize how you'd spend your time and resources. That tower defense aspect of the game isn't really that hard to understand.
I doubt it theres a lot of sources like channels who calculated it for you, tools to plan. Math is every where but not Tower Defense Game. The only popular in modern day of this genre are Bloons TD, PvZ. But even so Arknights is like Bloon TD+PvZ its one of its kind on market right now. I dont think a lot of people talk about this but the free 6 star is surprisingly hard to choose for a new player, if they choose it for their purpose and not their art. Saria is arguably the best option, with Mountain and Exusiai following them. Blaze and thorns is a hard choice because they either require more upgrade, high sp cost, and the fact that u get mountain in the same pack. Silverash is still a nuke button that cannot be ignored but it require some heavy upgrade i could argue that watching kyostinv guide is a faster option
I think Blaze/Mountain is the most straight forward option because their main skills are E1/S2, I've only been playing for a year and a half, so I remember Saria being comparable to Gummy, Exi to Kroos, and Thorns Midnight, SA is nice and got a lot of use in my lv1 account, but Mountain is better, and he's still a subpar-nuker in todays Meta. That said, having totally built my account Saria with Mod is my go to ST/MT medic and defender as with Mod she has better defense than almost every defender off skill. Like FRFR SA's nuke with a 65~ second cooldown from mod/redeploy Phil, does with it's low uptime it equals out to Blaze on S2, or Degen on S3, it can't be taken in the same breath as heavy hitters like Mlyner, Logos, or Walter, like I got him and built him but he's by no means "busted".
@@IrvineTheHunter with mod hes about even to mylanr with way more off skill damage than him too. plus SA offers lots of utility such as faster redeploy ranged dps on melee tile, and anti invis. also probably every newish player just got wis/logos so getting saria/blaze probably makes the most sense for those people. otherwise brand new in the future, Thorns is far and away the best generalist in the game. yes it takes e2 but that can be gotten in week 1. also for new players mods are pretty okay to get to, and thorns does pretty good.
@@sethmasters2147 People who think SA has comparable damage to Myl need to actually test it OR just look at the numbers. I used DV-8 just because it has four mechs to start the map, SA even with module, damage run up, AND faster activation, still finishes on par with Mlyner but he still has half his skill. But again let's look at the numbers.... About utility SA does much better with SP ramping but Mlyner has a much better buff modifier, not nearly as good as Chongus, Degen, Fia, Exia, but still quite good. Of course anti invisibility is a good niche and if you don't have an e2 Ines he's generally the best option.
@@sethmasters2147 I'm doing a bit of rounding because case by case, so it's just to get the point across. SA Base attk 717 with mod it's 983 S3M3 gives 23 strikes at 3times damage 3387 phys + 387 arts, so against moderate defense enemies [leaders] he'll deal something like 950 dps [3200x23+600x65]/120 for a sitting cycle, on a fast redeploy cycle I believe it's a bit higher at 1.1 k. Mlyner has a base ATK of 361[x3 for trait] so 1083 on 2 it's [381x5 x1.15 x1.8] 3950[1.12 true] so against the same moderate defense he deals almost 1k more. HOWEVER each kill he loses ~120 damage so after only 7~ kills the damage has been leveled. But again let's look at his DPS [23x3.5*k]/60=1350 DPS, he hit's just as often on skill but has a shorter attack interval, though he also targets less, and this is assuming he kill 5 enemies at the half way point. Point being, when killing swarms SA hands down, but when going after big heavy enemies with even moderate arts res, he loses that edge and while he shreds Def on skill 1130+130 arts means he's doing half Thorns S3 damage even against leaders. I built him because he has his uses, but theirs a reason people favor Degen's pulse over Mlyner, and she doesn't even out DPS him. I put her around 1150 better than SA but very low damage off skill and worse against high defense.
The new tutorials are nice but in terms of compiling info in one place I feel like we could use a glossary of some kind. List every debuff, damage type, etc just all in one place with explanations and maybe links to relevant tutorials
I think having access to an E2 (max) 5* is a huge game changer for new players, but it's not necessarily all good. They get access to E2 supports instantly and can breeze through many early stages without having to think. This provides less opportunities to naturally learn the game mechanics, and gives the player a much tougher wall when they actually get to hard content, rather than the difficulty processing slowly. However, it does give them easier access to event stages, which is good. Overall I think it's a good change, but players will need to spend more effort to actually learn, since they will have less opportunities to learn naturally as things go on. My account is about 18 months old, and I really enjoyed the starting chapters (except for that notorious training stage, although it's now easy for me to clear). I don't personally see why the early stages need to be reworked since in my opinion they are just more content to be consumed.
thats a fair concern. i guess their main issue is that many new players quit at the beginning stages of the game due to ak having a much steeper learning curve than any other gacha game. ive been trying to get friends into it, but they tend to complain "it requires too much brainpower". so having an instant max lvl 5* will definitely help players ease into the game, even if it will disrupt the learning curve and cause players to skip a few mechanics. how strong could a random max 5* be anyway? as long as its not like april or something they will still need to consider the basics to some extent
@qnis.e I suppose from a longevity perspective then it's good to increase new player retention. I guess this is why Wisadel exists! I like AK because of the cute waifus, but also because it tests my brainpower. I wouldn't be interested in playing anymore if it wasn't a challenge. However that's probably not the case for everyone, especially on mobile. A max 5* could be between mediocre and incredibly strong depending on who is raised, but in any event they will carry many early chapters with little effort. You're right that players will have to engage still since not many 5* could cover multiple lanes. Overall, more stages cleared more easily should reduce player frustration that might result in quitting due to not being invested in the game.
@@qnis.ei cant remember if this is the reason i quit after playing like 2 week. But my friend randomly ask and want to play ak after a 2 year i think. Now ak is one of my favorite too bad he quit tho😂
The biggest problem I have with the beginning chapters is that they shove some story in between the tutorial and it makes the newbies think that some of the things being said is just flavor text and nothing important and they can have this mentality while reading the important stuff too. There's still a bit of this in the game but it's very rare and by that point you're already skilled enough to figure out the mechanics by trial and error
as much as i like the changes and i really agree that players not being able to do events early is a problem what id want to see most of all is a 3 star mode for events, sort of like the adverse vs normal for main story stages but the twist being you can only bring 3 stars. its a lot easier to balance around the limited pool of 3 stars and for players who dont yet have the arsenal to take on the stage normally can easily raise 3 stars to beat the stages on the 3 star mode. also i would be curious to see the divide of new players able to easily clear 3 star stages while meta slave veterans struggle without their win buttons
I didn't even realize there were advanced tutorials. I thought I was missing a tab in the tutorial section but I guess they were added along side the main story stuff.
I think that's a great help for newcomers and Blue banners are good if they want a specific older unit. Even for me even though I played for a long time there are still a few 5 stars missing like Meteor. I don't need her but it's good for completionists.
I think it's a nice update however they still need to do some research on who is the biggest benefit (like Lappland or Saria for 5 stars). However as a fairly old account, I like these 5 star promotion tickets because I can use them on "fun" operators like Skyfire or Franka that aren't good enough to warrant the resources but still fun to use.
The problem with "Blue Pulls" is that they are just outright worse than normal ones. Splitting the banners so we get less old spooks is good. Essentially mothballing all operators past a certain age by banishing them to a banner that gives out the vastly worse Blue certs is dumb. It's like they spend the time and money making new art and game menus in order to add a system that is just worse for the player experience. It also doesn't help that the Blue Tickers cannot be used on new/limited units. . .
That’s true, it always felt strange that I can use normal pulls on kernel, but not the other way around… If anything it might lead newer players into thinking that these “blue tickets” are superior and more rare in some way.
The kernal banner split is definitely a good thing for new players since they will have access to 2 different banners, which increases the chance of a good lineup. In particular, if someone has no characters, then the build your own banner can be made much stronger than many standard banners, e.g. Eyja, Nightingale, Specter, Shamare, Lappland. Sure, many units are outdated, but there are still plenty of strong choices. At the end of the day, launch 6* can still clear the game, so it's not like new players will actually miss out on the long run. The biggest difference to the new player experience is whether they got Wisadel!
I like the blue banner purely because it's another operator to buy from the shop. I'm mostly f2p, only really buying the monthly pass every couple of months, and I tend to save 300 pulls for limited banners that interest me so I can get the featured that I really like + another limited I skipped So I'm missing a few characters that I like, which I only buy from the shop. With the blue banner it's much easier for someone I want to appear in the shop, especially when the select banner comes around.
I just pull on blue banners with blue certs, but for newer players that could be usefull. I wouldnt recommend to pulling too much on them cause limited, joint op and release banner are much better imo.
I just did all the trainings they were pretty interesting I used my max-out thing on Warmy, tho (would've done Paprika if I had her) coincidentally, the event mechanics synergize with Warmy
Another who saw the same opportunity to test the cute bunny 😃 she's still lacking a ritualist for support but the burst bonus when they catch fire is surprisingly high
Always having an e2 support to borrow also will help new player learn what units they don't have do and play around with units they haven't leveled yet
I agree these are great additions. The one thing I think is a bit strange is including the Training Grounds under Archives. What exactly are they doing there? Surely they'd be easy to miss or forget where they are. I hope new players are now directed to them at some point. Having them give gacha currency as a reward is a nice touch that incentivises everyone to clear them. The first few chapters are definitely a drag and probably will always be. I can't see HG reworking them, it'd take far too much work logistically. Hopefully everyone having an E2 L80 unit now plus two very good 6 stars (everyone on the starting banner is really helpful for a newbie, ranking them is splitting hairs) will mean anyone getting bored by the text will be able to no-brain clear the first 4 chapters, bypassing beef gates like 2-3 and 3-8 rather than getting stuck and giving up. Whereas those who are more interested in the gameplay and don't mind taking time to learn can still do so (that was me when I started). Overall, very happy to see HG introducing QoL and newbie-friendly features and bringing them in as soon as they can manage, even if it's ahead of the CN schedule. I've had friends who play newer gacha games such as Reverse 1999 and Ash Echoes compare their features favourably with Arknights, which is understandable since a lot of them have essentially taken what was good about Arknights and improved it, but it's good to see Arknights catching up to those newer games somewhat.
I wish they also added the difference between attack intervals and attack speed. I still get confused despite the words are color coded since I can't visualize the difference
I started playing a few days ago. Pulled Blaze and Mountain. Upgraded Amiya to E2 and didn't regret it. With some struggle I managed to get Ceylon, Bison and Underflow. Didn't get any more 5* and don't have many 4* either (Myrtle, Jessica, Meteor, Shirayuki, Mousse, Deepcolor, Grave, Sussurro, Perfumer, Myrrh, Scavenger, Courier, Rope and Shaw). And now I don't know who I should pick from 5* and 6* selectors. Some say it's Thorns, others - Saria and even less often - Exusiai. After looking through 5* selectors I understood that Lappland is a mini-Thorns, Nearl - mini-Saria and closest to the Exusiai is Platinum (from the selector), but it's all on paper, not on practice. I'm lost on this one and would appreciate any advice from experienced players, who used and use these characters, please.
The advice I always give is pick the cutest one, Arknights isn't a hard game, anything you pick will make you win regardless (I played the whole game with 4★ only), but if you don't believe me, just search for a tierlist and grab the highest
@RewriteKuma Now that's the problem - they're all super adorable! But on a serious note, I understood your point. They're all strong in their own role and can be kinda replaced by 4* and 5*, if you try hard enough. I think the best course of action is to wait before I set my mind or/and push it until I can't progress anymore. Thanks for the calming advice! +1 sub from me, I'm enjoying your videos!
Well the first chapter was the reason why I didn't touched the game too much when i created mine last year. It has so many text that it made me fall asleep 2 nights in a row when trying to play it after work. TLDR i was on and off AK for a whole year and got into the game when wisadel banner was up (cus i got WAlter on a random 10pull) Now im just regretting not being active, i missed a lot of strong limited Ops. Well i hope they fix the earlier chapters for player retention. AK is a pretty good game, and as a New Gen of AK player i would love to see and meet people like me who just recently discover the game.
I forgot if these features existed back then (I came back to this game like 1 month and 2 weeks ago) but wasn't there a skip story with summary button? Or the hold-to-speed-up feature?
@@Keyboard3939 they have, well as a new player sometimes i wanna know whats up you know. But I didnt realized that its a Novel type story so i snoozed 🤣
I think if you instantly E2L80 a 5* operator in the first few days of starting Arknights, they're likely have someone who'd be able to trivialize everything in the first 5 chapters of the story so they'd then think the game's supposed to be played a certain way and skip all the learning stages and getting to know all the different characters and stories. What these changes are for, is not really for absolute beginners, but rather, they are geared more towards someone who's already familiar with the game but they're starting a new account for whatever reason. For the rest of us, they're nothing but a bit of bonus materials and originium.
The free materials might not feel much for most anymore, but will be at their best when the new player needs some materials from chapter 11 or 13 for their new shiny op, while their real main story prog is at ch7 or something. I may have been that player few months ago, and boy was it annoying.
Im currently a new player, well newish, sorta. I started an acc over a year ago to get kaltsit but the game didnt stick so i stopped playing. Came back for mumu (well it was hoolheyak but i got mumu.) Came back again for W and now im sticking. One thing I really really like is that they added a “recommended to do” to the event list. I have not even played any of the old events, ive just been unlocking them so I can do them later. I haven’t actually used the 5* max upgrade stuff or the 6* selector though
dont worry man as a beginner of arknights myself, i did have difficulties but theres kyo for every stages i found hard😅; the exeception is the credits realy hard to gather
i maxed amiya with both items i dont know if it was the correct option but thanks to that i could have some really op friend unit thanks to that i could finish the event
As a new player (only 7 days old), I probably wouldnt have played if they didnt do these bonuses. There's so many other games. And while working a 45-55 hour week, Arknights is not a friendly game lol.
These are good changes though i wish HG would actually Buff 4 & 5 Stars who are bad/handicapped as well as underpreforming or badly designed Classes of Operastors so newer players would have an easier time with the early game compared to Veterans with basically all operators under the sun.
Free E2 is gamebreaker for new players. Wish i had it when i started playing. About tutorial...Damn, where's mine 6 star ops. I know about basics, but those characters so weak compared to 6 stars. They good for early game, but i stopped using them like 1,5 years ago.

This is best update for new beginnings players the tutorial and free good stuff.
I've missed out on thorns everytime he came back so I was very happy to get this selector even though I've played since launch lol
TLDR i was on and off AK for a whole year and got into the game when wisadel banner was up (cus i got WAlter on a random 10pull)
Now im just regretting not being active, i missed a lot of strong limited Ops.
Well i hope they fix the earlier chapters for player retention. AK is a pretty good game, and as a New Gen of AK player i would love to see and meet people like me who just recently discover the game.
If you regret not getting them while not even actively playing the game at that time, DON'T!! Do let NOT fomo win mate...
@Zio_xm yeah i guess ur right, im still enjoying the content and ive been lucky enough on some pulls so i don't really have a problem with my line up.
@TheZapMan understandable lol, I did hear there was a anime for this game. So that's probably the best way to get into the story
Been playing 5 years with 306 characters so far, all stages cleared and i didnt know some of this stuff lol
9:03 I am that guy, no one knows me but i am that guy :)
I only failed one tutoria cus i placed mouse looking up to shield guy, c'mon is the normal thinkin isn't?
Damn, I did it too. I miscalculated because my team can kill that shield guy real quick but not arene and mousse in the tutorial 😅
I like keeping my 6 stars at lv60 and my 5 stars at lv50, that trainig aparutus is gonna be sitting unused in my account for quite sometime.
i maxed amiya with both items i dont know if it was the correct option but thanks to that i could have some really op friend unit thanks to that i could finish the event
Tutorial on how to build a squad? Pick Walter White
I too use my upgrade ticket on harold 🤝
As a new player (only 7 days old), I probably wouldnt have played if they didnt do these bonuses.
There's so many other games. And while working a 45-55 hour week, Arknights is not a friendly game lol.
You like thorns for his character that has the same lore and character as Surtr and Cuora.
at least thorns lacks lore bc he didn't have an event 😂unlike surtr
These are good changes though i wish HG would actually Buff 4 & 5 Stars who are bad/handicapped as well as underpreforming or badly designed Classes of Operastors so newer players would have an easier time with the early game compared to Veterans with basically all operators under the sun.
I didn't know there were challenge stages for the tutorials, where did they even put them?
chapter 0 and 2, it's only 2 stages
Wth I've been playing from 2021 and i just knew the training grounds
10:30
Where do i find these challenge tutorials?
They've been added to the main story (chapters 0 and 2). I had to go looking for them as well.
10:34
Where can I find them? They seem fun, but i cant find these stages.
chapter 0 and 2, only 2 stages
I wish i had all of these a year ago.
I got Mountain and i don't like his role
Free E2 is gamebreaker for new players. Wish i had it when i started playing. About tutorial...Damn, where's mine 6 star ops. I know about basics, but those characters so weak compared to 6 stars. They good for early game, but i stopped using them like 1,5 years ago.
Brooooo, free 6 star and e2 5 star for newbies? Wish was this good when i started the game
i just need damage calculation. hg please add damage calculation.
Meanwhile me: I want sandbox mode and create simulation for every possiblity
