  • I went to El Capitan Reservoir in Lakeside, CA (30 minutes east of San Diego) today and pulled out the flipping jig. It was a great day today, 1 day after a new moon & waxing crescent. The bass were active and they responded well to the big jig. Typically in Southern California reservoirs (clear lakes / pressure waters) downsizing your bait is more effective... but I tried something different today and it worked.
    Setup:
    Dobyns 735c Champion Rod
Abu Garcia Revo STX (gen 2)
    Seaguar Invisx Fluorocarbon 15# test
    Bauer's Custom Baits Craw
War Eagle Flipping Jig 3/8 oz
    Go Pro Hero3 White
Pattern was pitchin' & flippin' my bait to isolated trees (standing timber) in 2-3 foot of water and getting bit on the initial fall.
The one big lost one where I went ballistic was most likely a 7 pounder. HUGE Mouth (too bad my Go Pro was angled up a tad too high or else you would've saw it come out of the water). I did a poor job of bringing in the fish (I was skunked on my 4 previous outings so sort of forgot what it felt like to catch a fish and took me some time to get in the groove haha).

Yeah it happens sometimes but if you catch one its going to be huge. They have been stocking the lake with trout so the bass are getting big. Try pitchin the tullie line along Harvey's arm and you'll see :)
