Actually there's 3 contenders for that award. Even though it flew under the radar, the Dead Space remake was really good. Though even though I love Dead Space, Leon and Samus are my loves so there's no way that game will beat either RE4 or Prime Remastered. Personally hoping for Prime Remastered takes it cause Metroid is my favorite title from Nintendo

It blurs the line between a remaster and a remake because most of the gameplay remains the same. There were a lot of people who worked specifically on Prime Remastered too. The credits will tell you that MPR isn't just a port job like how the original RE4 (not remake) was brought to PS4 years ago
Don't forget Silent Hill 2 remake is also coming out this year. I think it says a lot about modern games that some of the biggest anticipated titles this year are remakes of games from over 10-15 years ago. Prime, Dead Space, RE4, Silent Hill 2, these games could all be in their own award category

If done well. Seeing as RE2 remake was great, and RE3 remake was good, it's likely this will be too. Capcom has been doing well with RE so it's less a comment about them and more the industry.
I think it will be criminal if this game does not at least get some nominations. I have faith Tears of the Kingdom will measure up to Breath of the Wild though so there will be some steep competition! I have a feeling Metroid Prime 4 may get its chance in 2024 however... Great video bro!

I love that the two best-reviewed games released in 2023 are currently both remasters/remakes of old games, that were already brilliant games that still hold up today.

I hope not. Winning in a best remaster or remake of the year is perfectly fine, but game of the year should be reserved for recognizing the best creative and technical experience of a new game that year. Being a remaster alone removes much of the creative aspect for that game.
Since we're talking selling power of Prime here, I just thought I mention Metroid Prime Remastered was apparently the best selling game on all platforms in Germany during its physical launch week.
The remaster is excellent and has added so many new details In the environment. Though I hope the controls are better in prime 4. I miss the accuracy of the wii controls.

Umm well, I don't think the Game Awards coming in December actually matters. However, what will matter is if Metroid Prime "Remastered" can actually stay at the top even after the other big games have been released. That is what will actually solidify it as the undisputed Game of the Year regardless of what awards it wins or nominated for.
Still sold out everywhere near me. I want to walk into a store and buy it but it's been sold out. Finally this week a local Best Buy near my work listed it as coming in 7 days. Now it's 4 days until it's in stock. The website won't let me order it. I'm only buying it to collect since I already have the digital copy. I think Nintendo should take this price approach for more of their games. I can imagine people double dipping with physical digital a lot more often and Nintendo could move that $60 to $80 per game. Costs would be a bit higher but I think the Switch is a unique system especially as it's the only "current gen" console with physical cartridges out of the big 3. There are smaller gaming companies but I look at those as more of hobbyist/collector items which are cool and probably will be rare but the Switch is a system where people want to have their cake and eat it to. Why did it seem like SO many doubled down on Metroid Prime? Of course the price was a great deal but I think it also says something about how much fans appreciate the franchise.

I actually see RE4 being the more likely entry for GotY... considering the more mainstream attention RE games tend to get, alongside the clear bias toward Sony in the Game Awards, if any remake is going to make the list, it's this one.
The "game awards" are not legitimate, so I don't even pay attention to what they say. "Awards" there are bought and paid for. The ONLY factor for awards should be actual player reception. Nobody cares about an industry circle jerk that buys participation trophies.

If I remember correctly, in 2019's Game Awards Resident Evil 2 Remake was nominated for a few categorys INCLUDING Game of the Year. So with that fact, Metroid Prime Remastered may not win Goty, but it will most likely be nominated at the least which is monumental. Look at 2020, FF7 Remake was also nominated for Goty. So.
Diablo 4 would be shocking to be nominated. After everything Blizzard has done over the last decade that game WILL get review bombed into oblivion! Zelda BOTW and I guess 2 have strayed too far from what I loved Zelda for for me. They turned it into another sandbox adventure game. Part of what I loved Zelda for was that loop of working your way to a dungeon, getting a new treasure and then being able to access new areas and a new dungeon. Prime is already my GOTY. I have already 100% cleared it on max difficulty and am replaying to just speed run it for fun.
RE4, Dead Space, I think Metroid Prime might have some competition. And those games are much more popular. I don't think Tears of the Kingdom will make TGA either. Too much like BotW.

I supposedly missed a last copy by 10 minutes at a Walmart last week, which was especially annoying because that's probably about how much I was slowed down by the 15,000lb trailer I'm often hauling, and the employee that told me about that said they should get copies the 14th, and, naturally, they didn't. I live in a part of the USA (very very very south Texas) that is pretty low priority in regards to getting anything shipped to it, so I'm not really surprised I'm having even more trouble than many other people. A remaster of a 20 year old game for GOTY doesn't sit well with me and it's not a full on remake like Resident Evil 4. Also The Witcher 3 sits at 94. Yeah thats a port but it could also qualify as a "remaster" considering that game was more remastered than Metroid. Zelda, Hogwarts, or Spiderman is where your GOTY is gonna be.
MPR back up to a 95 again with 86 reviews haha. But it's still 2 points lower than the Gamecube version which means it's a worse game factually. Just kidding obviously, but this is why numerical scores don't matter too much. I think RE4 has a better shot at GotY because it's a remake with a lot more new to it. Both are among my all time favorites, but personally I'm not a fan of remakes and remasters winning GotY.

I think the game was rated soo high in regard to the quality of being a remake
Being a good game was still an important but secondary element.
If this was totally new today I’m sure people would nitpick the game a lot more but still rate high like 8 and 9/10
It’s really good but I think Metroid prime 4 will improve soo many things that will make prime feel outdated

I actually think Prime Remastered will be the highest reviewed game when the year is done and yes I don't believe Zelda will review higher it will be lower

I don't think they will award a remake GOTY. Even if it is in fact the best game of the year. It's not technically new content. IMO it's gonna be tough to beat Zelda. We know almost nothing about it.

Yeah they might want to make enough physical copies to sell, the hard core Metroid collectors who want a physical copy of this game are everywhere.
Almost a month since it's been out and I still haven't been able to get a physical copy.
Really? I just walked past a stack of 15 copies at Walmart two days ago. The initial stock was low, but seems to be getting filled now. Keep trying and don't pay the eBay prices, we've waited 20 years, what's a couple more weeks.
@@ryanstewart4444 I've been calling Gamestops and Best Buys and stopping at every Walmart I've been driving by every chance I get. I supposedly missed a last copy by 10 minutes at a Walmart last week, which was especially annoying because that's probably about how much I was slowed down by the 15,000lb trailer I'm often hauling, and the employee that told me about that said they should get copies the 14th, and, naturally, they didn't. I live in a part of the USA (very very very south Texas) that is pretty low priority in regards to getting anything shipped to it, so I'm not really surprised I'm having even more trouble than many other people.
By the time I had even heard about this the pre-orders were sold out everywhere.
In light of this, all said and done, I am very curious to hear about the total sales numbers for this.

A remaster of a 20 year old game for GOTY doesn't sit well with me and it's not a full on remake like Resident Evil 4. Also The Witcher 3 sits at 94. Yeah thats a port but it could also qualify as a "remaster" considering that game was more remastered than Metroid. Zelda, Hogwarts, or Spiderman is where your GOTY is gonna be.
MPR back up to a 95 again with 86 reviews haha. But it's still 2 points lower than the Gamecube version which means it's a worse game factually. Just kidding obviously, but this is why numerical scores don't matter too much. I think RE4 has a better shot at GotY because it's a remake with a lot more new to it. Both are among my all time favorites, but personally I'm not a fan of remakes and remasters winning GotY.

For you to even make this suggestion is logically the same as claiming ToTK is going to be a crappy bare bones asset flip with a few caves and sky islands thrown in. And I tend to think that's what ToTK is going to be as well until Nintendo proves otherwise.

There's an entire youtube channel dedicated to researching precisely what in the hell caused these games to come out as doodoo called 'Wha Happun'.
