I’m a Latina and I love that you share diverse authors. I have been introduced to so many amazing black authors. Kennedy Ryan has become my favorite romance author! I have a book club with my friends and I’m trying to pick books by black authors when it’s my turn!
“We’re in rELatioNsHiiipsss” “Yaaaaa” 😂 I swear I could watch a reality show of you and Alex just doing random things all day, yall have the best friendship chemistry
Your booktube channel spreads sooo much joy and light ❤❤❤and your love of books is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ your channel is whats beautiful about life and books. Always walk away feeling better after watching your channel. And also like i always say seeing someone who looks like me is everything showing their love of reading. You encourage black women and young girls to read. And omg Alex always makes me laugh. My other favorite booktuber , always she brings sooo much joy ❤❤❤❤yall had me laughing i need a picnic with games with my bestie ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love when you and Alex get together! ♥️😊 The conversations are so interesting it feels like I’m right there with you guys. I wish I could read multiple books at once. My tbr would be so short. If I stop reading one book for too long I forget what it’s about 😂😂
OMG!!! 🙊 So excited to hear Chaz and Taylor's reading update- I really hope they'll love it and join the book community like Alex did! It's so much more fun having bookish friends!! It's a great experience! Keeping my fingers crossed!! 😆🤞📚 💕
I was just talking about this in my story a bit , on how black authors is not really cared for & how im going to support my people first before others because they just dont care and its just not in the book community , its in every community with us in it & i seen it clear as day in the knitting community...
Alex!!! I thought the characters were white too. I kept having to remind myself they were black. I was a little disappointed in that. Still a good story and I rated it a 4.
Love seeing yall together! It’s so crazy you mentioned The Seven Year Slip cause it’s magical realism but the Romanceeee in that book was so gooood. Very creative plot So happy you liked The Mixtape 😊
I love what you said about black authors. I noticed that a few years back and spent the next year and half only reading books by black and POC authors. I only just started reading other authors after discovering booktok recs ❤
I love this so much! I’m sitting outside hearing the birds and having a snack. Definitely felt as if I were sitting right alongside you both. Such a vibe, I would love to join you guys in real life, I live in St. Louis. I plan to run into the both of you one day at Barnes in Fairview heights!🤞🏽❤
Low-key, I can see Tia Williams being a black author that might get some big hype with her new releases. I was getting recs for Seven Days in June by people who aren't big romance readers, and Emily Henry was recommending A Love Song for Ricki Wilde when she was on the Today show. She and Jenna were talking about it.
I definitely think that she has gotten some hype, but I also think that some of that is because Seven Days In June was on Reese Book Club list. She’s also only one author out of the thousands of incredible black authors that deserve just as much hype!
Hey girl, hey! Can’t wait to read The Mixtape. 🤭I’ve heard so many good things about it. I’m happy you’re reading People we meet on vacation. I have it on hold with Libby. I think I should just order it at this point.
Good morning. I could not put The Mixtape down…. When I say 7⭐️. That book was great. Yes ma’am I cried for her and all the characters to be honest. Brittany Cherry is on my top 5 authors now. Baby her pen had me hooked.
I feel the same way about queer books. Books by anyone not white, cis, straight and able-bodied are not hyped up enough! I personally only read queer books, but I try to be diverse within that because there are so many amazing beautiful stories out there and even with just queer books, I have an online hypothetical tbr of hundreds! Not that I own them. Hopefully I'll read most of them someday, though I add faster than I read 😅
I literally CAN NOT recommend Magnolia Parks to other people because when they say they don't like it I get SO MAD!! Like I will hear NO Magnolia slander lol
Is the Britt. Cherry book low spice by chance? It’s sounds really good, but just my reading preference of low spice I get nervous! But then again you make so many books sound amazing! Love the wide range you offer!
There are two spicy scenes if I remember correctly and they’re not until the very end of the book! I don’t even think they kiss until past the 200 page mark. I think you’ll really enjoy the mixtape!
It doesn’t go into detail in my opinion, but everyone has a different perspective on what is too much or too little so definitely go into this story with caution if you feel that the subject isn’t something you want to read!
It’s mostly Black people who hype up, purchase, and read Black authors. There’s very little crossover in literature. If there’s a Black person or Black couple on the cover it will rarely be picked up by a non Black reader. Why hasn’t Kennedy Ryan received the same crossover success that Tia Williams has? It’s very sad that we are still in this segregated space with books. I read books by a variety of authors, but I will always support Black authors first because they rarely receive the recognition they deserve.
I never heard of lipstick and camera clicks adding to my TBR great video again book bestie I would love to crochet something for you bestie let me know if it’s okay if I can 📚💜🧶🫶🏽
Shawnaci, I adore your channel, as a fellow black woman … but lately, the focus on race feels repetitive. Your identity is essential, but there's more to explore. Too much emphasis on race can deter viewers. Diversity isn't just about race; it's about embracing all perspectives. Let's move beyond limiting beliefs imposed by society. We're all part of one consciousness, playing different roles
“You are so nice…cuz that dog is not cute”😂😂 yall are so fun together!
I cackled hahaha
Hahaha we always have so much fun!
Alex’s laugh is absolutely infectious 😂

You won’t be disappointed! Her writing is so fun!
I love what you said about black authors. I noticed that a few years back and spent the next year and half only reading books by black and POC authors. I only just started reading other authors after discovering booktok recs ❤

That sounds so relaxing! I love that!
The book you thought Alex was first talking about maybe was The Secret Lives of Church Ladies ?……great vid! I love when you do book week ❤
Oo yes! That’s what I was thinking about!
Low-key, I can see Tia Williams being a black author that might get some big hype with her new releases. Alex and Shawnaci, magical realism books, try Rebecca Serles. One Italian Summer, In Five Years, Expiration Dates....
Thanks for recommending!

Us family over here only do good vibes no negative overhear
I'm gonna be telling everyone "ner" from now on 😂
Hahahah I can’t help it
'...even though it sucked." 😂😂
Hahaha I screamed
For me I read multiple books 3 or 4 it's worked for me but there are times if a book is really great I won't stop and finish it
Same!!
When you do negative reviews, do you rate solely on your feelings about a book or do you consider plot, character development, pacing?
I base them on how I feel afterward, how I feel about the writing, and the pacing usually!
I saw the trigger warnings for Mixtape and it made me nervous. Does it go into a lot of detail with the traumatic events?
It doesn’t go into detail in my opinion, but everyone has a different perspective on what is too much or too little so definitely go into this story with caution if you feel that the subject isn’t something you want to read!
Alex you look good mama
I love your channel. Dang, where did you get those strawberries? Texas gonna have to do better. 😀

I love animals and I don't approve of animals negative but if I did something wrong let me know
Other communities do not read books with Black characters.
I hope this changes as we continue conversations about how important it is to read stories that are outside of your own culture!
Great point about the hype white authors get that black authors don’t.
BLACK!???? I thought they were white 😂
Shawnaci it was a woman takling bad crap about your dog and I reported her .
