HCB is simply amazing and genius since he only used manual cameras without a lightmeter but still captured perfect geometric compositions in less than a second
I've tried to do some discreet street shooting recently in a local downtown area. It was difficult to get images of faces because the majority of people were looking down at their phones even as they walked and talked with other people. Very different world than the one photographed by HC-B.
@@YouzTube99 no of course not. I don't know where you are - I'm assuming the States, but even in some European countries, people aren't like that. Definitely travel. Plus you're able to cover a wider range of people and backdrops as well. You're welcome. Keep up with the photography.
Don't shoot in the cities. Cities now are full of tourists and it's so connected now with technology that life will be so uninteresting and now it's becoming illegal to shoot street photography in a few cities in Europe. You need to go to the poorer locations in the world where life is far more interesting. Places like Africa, Haiti, South America, etc. Or visiting non tourist areas of Europe, the old towns of Greece, Spain, Portugal. Places like these have so much character and are also more welcoming. It's a completely different world now to HCB days.
In Paris, people are so conditioned to seeing photographers, photographers have become more invisable. I used my Fuji XT-2 throughout the streets and always felt stealthy. Well, not always, but more than I expected.
He just screams suspicion, you cannot go around on the streets today and be "on the hunt" for pictures like that, people react with anger immediatly (even though they are oblivious to being filmed by security cameras constantly wherever they move in a city) It was a different time back then..
I do it with an Oly TG4. I think he might use it if he had one during his time. He used a Leica M those days was because it was the most discreet camera of the time. The Oly TG4 is more versatile. It is small, very capable, inconspicuous, weatherproof and dustproof. One can easly walk around markets unnoticed. Then, one can shoot rather very quickly wth it.

He said he used light meters in difficult light.

That's why I think it's better to do in non Western countries where people aren't really wrapped up in the phones like that.

Interesting. For some reason, I assumed phone-ism was a global phenomenon. Thanks for pointing that out!

A scenic locale. Photogenic subjects.

It would be weird if he do this today... With a smartphone.
