  • I melted several different packets of bird suet to determine if I could see a real difference between them. I’ll let you be the judge. The day after I filmed this video I came across a great article on feeding birds. foxchattanooga...
It said to avoid using corn!
I was correct in that the C&S suet was $1.48 and the Audubon was $1.98.

Confirms pretty much what I always thought, these are mass produced with low quality seed filler, very little substance. Ive had a few where the birds just refused, too much cakey filler ( no substance). Good to see that the Audubon ones at least have more nuts, less corn & millet & junk. The apple & berry & other fruit additives are all gimmicks that appeal to humans. Just bought a 4 pound pale of Lard from WalMart for $11.00 - I’ll see how far i can stretch that along with sunflower seeds & peanuts.

You’re right about appealing to humans, spot on. I think your Walmart lard will go a long way. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts

Interesting experiment. I feed suet also. The birds always eat it up, whatever’s in it - lol

Thanks for the "truth reveal". I'm not surprised at all. Have a good day. Keep warm, have a cup of coffee, and enjoy the birds.

I was a little surprised on how little of anything but corn could be seen. As for staying warm- will do. Cold nasty day with lots of rain for the next 24 hours.

When you get it you wanna make sure there is no grain products which corn milo and millet is a grain product. The number one suet out there that has none of that bad stuff is CNS woodpecker treat. It’s the best one on the market. And the reason why they put all that corn and Milo and millet in it is because they wanna make it cheaper and what the woodpeckers mainly want is the render down , beef fat none of that cheap birdseed they mainly want peanuts and any kind a nut is good.❤

Is all about making money. Corn is cheap. You’re right

This video is a definite public service. All the processed sludge that passes for people food these days is awful because it's the cause of many diseases. And now many of us have started giving similar low-quality foods to our animals. Wholesome food is required for good health and a good life.
Shame on the companies that use dishonest tactics to get people to buy their products.

Amen @9lavender! I couldn't believe how much corn was in all the different mixes, I'd bet a dollar to a donut it is all GMO as well. Thanks for sharing and being concerned about our wild birds.

Always love your bird related content. I especially enjoy your diy bird feeder videos. I also make my own suet, but sometimes I get a little lazy and will just melt down store bought suet and add peanut butter to it. The woodpeckers in my yard really enjoy peanut butter.

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. My woodpeckers usually don’t go for the peanut butter but the chickadees and titmouse love it. Adding peanut butter to store suet is a great idea.

How long will all that last?

    • @LSatch
      @LSatch  Год назад

That’s really hard to predict. We have 4 suet feeders. One holds two cakes. It just depends on the weather and the birds activity. Also we’ve never really kept track of how long one will last. Sorry I don’t have a better answer.

Never buy suet with corn, Milo and millet the birds don’t like it. They only like nuts And Like peanuts 🥜

Sounds like you need to start growing corn and peanuts in your garden and then add a fat cow to your pastures so you can self source all your ingredients.
Now, to be scientific, you needed to have a smaller tray that you measured it. Then make equal sections, take one section and count the items and that would give you the statistical count in each suet pack. ;)

You want to make sure you buy a good quality suet. The best suet out there is at wild birds unlimited and woodpecker treat by CNS
