    I think part of the overall confusion is the series may straddle both timelines with little to no indication... some scenes occur where Laura was killed, others where she disappeared. For an example (just an example I make no claim as to which is which) what if Audrey married the accountant in the disappeared timeline, and an insane asylum in the death timeline? What if Coopers actions are what is causing all this confusion, time jumps, noodle eating out of sync, people shifting seats at the Double R etc.... kind of a ripple effect where the people involved all feel confusion over the transition between the 'official' and 'unofficial' versions.

    ive watched this series more times than id like to admit. i cant express how much i appreciate the goal of trying to put all the pieces on the table so we can better draw our own conclusions, rather than, say, making a single video that is over four hours long where you try to cram all of the pieces into a single objective truth, and then at least one follow up that is over an hour long. you know, hypothetically.

      No matter how definitive a theory is, no one's saying you have to agree with it. That's the beautiful thing about Lynch - two different people can have two different interpretation.
      Say what you want about Twin Perfect's analysis but fact is, his argument was cohesive...no matter how "right" or "wrong" it is. He simply had a thesis and he stuck to it with evidence to back up his interpretation...it does not at all mean that there is no other interpretation.

    Re: Andy's watch, as a collector myself I can tell you that's a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date, Ref. 1500 (c 1959-1960). Interestingly, you can notice the crown is sticking out when it should be screwed down tight to the case, which means either the crown tube threads are worn out or prop dept forgot to screw it back down after setting the time/date. They sell for about $3500-8500 USD depending on condition and specific dial variation; Andy's in plain stainless with smooth bezel and silver stick dial is the most common variant plus poor condition so put it on the lower end of that spectrum. Also given it's a vintage watch c1960 maybe he inherited it?
    EDIT: I spent a couple decades dealing in vintage timepieces as well, including providing some for Hollywood productions. From what I've heard talking to propmasters and others in the industry, it's also very possible that's Harry Goaz's own personal watch.

However knowing Lynch and his eye to detail and meaning, that watch was carefully selected (along with everything else "important" enough to get specific closeups throughout the series). Nothing is random or left to chance. I will guarantee you Andy's Rollie was specifically picked or at least specifically approved -- even if it is Goaz's personal timepiece -- and that in itself gives it some greater meaning within the universe than just having any old random watch on there.

    About "I'll see you at the curtain call", I think that's an extremely odd thing for Cooper to say to her. The curtain call is what happens at the end of a play, when the actors come out onto the stage as themselves, break the fourth wall, and have an authentic interaction with the audience. I took this to mean that when they next meet, they will be their real selves, indicating that everything that went before was perhaps scripted.
    Also, I'm so glad you mentioned the Rolex. My best theory is that Lucy bought it for him with the paternity money that a court made Dick pay to her.

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  5 лет назад +3

      I know the historic use of the phrase "curtain call." It seemed to me an obvious reference in this instance to Coop literally emerging from behind the curtain. It also seems symbolically saying "at the end."
      I was joking about the Rolex. It's a funny detail, but I don't actually think it's a great mystery in need of explanation.

    The misplaced "One Year Later" title card does help the Jeffries scenes make more sense in FWWM. The one thing is... doesn't it also mean that Cooper is only investigating Desmond's disappearance a week before the Palmer murder and Desmond has been missing for nearly a year before anyone looked into it? In the scene with Cooper and Kiefer Sutherland's character, Sutherland does make it sound like he's been missing for awhile when he says that he liked Desmond for having his own MO.
    I'm honestly willing to let it slide since Desmond's character only exists because Kyle MacLachlan only committed to five days of filming. The Deer Meadow scenes also add a lot of weight to Cooper and Truman's intro scene in the Pilot - when Cooper makes a point of saying that the FBI is in charge and sometimes small town lawmen don't like that. Harry is cool with it, but the sheriff of Deer Meadow sure wasn't. Plus, it's fun to imagine that it was actually Cooper that punched out the sheriff in The Missing Pieces.

    I think your advice to not sweat the small stuff is the best advice. One can go insane when one tries to make sense of all the continuity mistakes. Or maybe they mostly aren't continuity mistakes, but deliberate choices relating to a scene but not to the whole, because Twin Peaks is an elaborate dream anyway. Also, Matt, I think your acting is damn fine. EDIT: forgotten to write that The Return (as opposed to Fire Walk With Me) feels like there are pieces missing, probably in parts deliberately, for example to give Mark Frost the chance to fill in the gaps as he did with his Final Dossier. So maybe we won't get a 4th season, but something like The Return: The Missing Pieces.

    Great video, as all your other videos! ^-^ But I do have one gripe with this one. Your theory suggests that scenes are presented to us out of order and time flows normal for all the characters. There's a strong possibility of there being more than one dreams (apart from the Odessa world) and if that's the case, time being more compressed in some and more diluted in others can be the case. For example, what happens in one scene in a matter of seconds can have affects in another place, playing out in days. Space does vary unnaturally as well. Jerry being lost for example. He sets out on foot from Twin Peaks and ends up in Jackson Hole, that's nearly 900 miles! So, space-time in this series is far more wibbly wobbly timey wimey (as the great doctor would put it) than we first anticipated.

    • @xyttra

    • @ShinySephiroth1
      @ShinySephiroth1 5 лет назад

      @@xyttra I think BOB/Leland was already doing promiscuous stuff even before he attacked Laura. IMO he just so happened to "let loose" on her on the same day. Or maybe he got angry because he was expecting Laura to be there and when he saw she wasn't, he punished Ronette. And The Final Dossier explains that Coop went to Twin Peaks iirc in the new Official Version. ^_^ But, that's just based on my memory. It's definitely hard to keep everything straight!

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  5 лет назад +1

      He definitely goes to Twin Peaks as described in The Final Dossier, and Ronette was found wandering around injured just as before. BOB went to the cabin expecting to find Laura, but she wasn't there. It's not as if Laura was his only victim; he'd already killed Teresa Banks.

    • @xyttra
      @xyttra 5 лет назад

      @@Corn_Pone_Flicks He killed Theresa Banks because he found out she was working with Laura. He couldn't risk Laura finding out and Theresa did figure out he was Laura's father. Changing the past stuff almost always leads to continuity errors and Frost, apparently chose the easy way. I'm willing to accept Cooper would go to Twin Peaks one way or another because it's basically his fate. Every road he can take has to take him there. Also Cooper not going to Twin Peaks was just a small portion of my point.

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  5 лет назад +1

      I know. It was just the portion for which I had an immediate, concrete answer. There's also a lot of ideas which feel like they might have originally been intended for Mulholland Drive back when it was meant to be a series...an amnesiac pursued by assassins, for example. The Mitchum brothers also look rather similar to the Castigliani brothers. Audrey has an existential awakening during a perfomance at a nightclub. Given that MD was originally conceived as a Peaks spin-off, it seems fitting, in a way.

    I really love your videos mate. I sat through all the TP ones last night, and I had a question. Sorta. Do you think that potentially the time glitching (big Ed's noodles, etc) is a direct result of what cooper has done? Meaning that everything he does eventually, will already be reflected IN the past. So the glitches and loops and issues are a result of his tampering?
    I subscribe to the notion that (in fiction and media) if you affect time, it should be reflected along the entire timeline, sometimes in a small way, some times in a more major way. We know that Laura is eventually labelled a missing person and that people began having hazy recollections of what happened, so its not an unprecedented idea.

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  5 лет назад +1

      It's possible in regards to the Big Ed scene, though I say this with the caveat that Lynch seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't be all that concerned with the exact science of it, in so many words. Frost, yes, but not Lynch; not really. It might be there just to suggest the idea of fractured time, without really adhering to any complete time-travel "theory," so to speak. The parts where we hop back in time, such as the repeated Dr. Amp scene through Bobby in the diner talking about finding his father's message, however, I just regard as a storytelling device, just like the way Tarantino replays the end of the "killing of Brett" scene in Pulp Fiction to re-establish where we are, and then proceeding to show us something we didn't see on the first go-around.

    Thanks for the entertaining and insightful videos!
    Sorry if this has already been covered elsewhere, but I'm surprised that I can't seem to find anything discussing it.
    Hawk finds pages that had been torn from Laura's diary in the men's room, and they describe the dream that Laura had in FWWM, where Annie told her that she was with the Good Dale, and said to write it in her diary. But, the dream happened after she'd given her diary to Harold for safe keeping, which she does because she discovers that pages have been torn out. Does this imply that Hawk and Truman are in a different timeline than FWWM? Or was it just a mistake?

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  4 года назад

      I think it's just a case of FWWM not showing everything that happened that week. We never see her with Dr. Jacoby or Josie, and for that matter we never see her have or transcribe her dream of Dale in the diary she gives Harold. We know these things all happened; the film just doesn't act like a checklist.

    • @Corn_Pone_Flicks
      @Corn_Pone_Flicks  4 года назад

      I noticed that, too. It would be impossible for them to drive that distance almost entirely at night given the distance, but I think it might be just stylistic. To have that scene at the Palmer house in the daytime wouldn't have worked nearly as well. The nighttime quiet and empty streets just emphasize how lost and alone they both are in that moment.

    • @ofthetree

      I agree. Naturally the scene at the Palmers house couldn't be anything else but at night... Strange thing is, that with the hours it takes to drive the distance (I googled and made some calculations) this late hour of the day seems to fit.

    If it's all in Cooper's afterlife, what do the timelines matter?
    Cooper never left the lodge because he's dead, he only imagined leaving the lodge.
    The whole lesson of the story is you can't turn back time, what's done is done.
    Cooper gets the Giant's instructions totally wrong. He thinks it's all about killing Judy and saving Laura, when it's really all about him, his soul's journey.
