    It’s incredible to think that the press in the UK slated this show and her! It came off the back of the sex book and they said the show was crude! And the headlines read give it up grandma!!! She was in her 30s!!!! Insane and she never gets the credit she deserves as a performer or singer and songwriter!

    After giving us Dominatrix, Disco Party with orgy ;), Cabaret, Burlesque and Military Sergeant, she took us to a high fashion show here. The Girlie Show is truly the greatest show ever. What an experience it must have been to see this live. Especially at the time without the internet, where you had no idea what the show was gonna be like, except maybe some snippets in the newspapers or tiny bit of footage on MTV News. What a joy to experience it 30 years later with you two, lovely ladies :)

    This tour will always hold a special place for me. I managed to get right up front when she played Wembley Stadium - it was my first stadium show - and an experience I'll never forget. The DVD was meant to be filmed over two nights at this stadium in Australia, but the following night's show was rained out, which sadly means that there are a lot of visual elements that weren't fully captured on the DVD recording. Nonetheless, it is still nothing short of spectacular! Watching it with you two lovely ladies just reaffirmed how much I adore it. There are so many 'moments' for me, but the end of Justify, where she walks away, looks back, then continues to walk as the curtain falls, never fails to give me goosebumps! Brenda - as always, your comments throughout are so considered, inclusive, and beautiful! We need more 'Brenda's' in this scary world!!!! Thank you ladies X

    Madonna has always been seen, talked about, judged as a cynical and harsh person. This is necessary to achieve certain results, but then when I watch one of her shows in its entirety I always think that there is a great humanity in her that embraces everything. “Dance and sing get up and do your thing” is a life lesson.

  • @Matuteilcapo

    She's the blueprint for pop concerts since the Blonde Ambition Tour. Every aspect of her shows are meticulously planned and designed, she even rehearses over and over again. She's an athlete and a perfectionist. Amazing reaction. Now from this tour we'll have to wait 8 years for a new one...

  • @briandubois-gilbert8182
    @briandubois-gilbert8182 10 месяцев назад +4

    Ladies!-really ❤your deep, heartwarming, insightful reaction to this tour-you truly captured the humanity of her artistry and her view of life with all its pathos, tragedy, conflict, sadness, sexuality and joy. So theatrically poignant how she ended the show by revealing that the masked, sad Pierrot mime/clown, silently observing all the human drama on stage, represented Madonna in her artistic journey through this short life we have in this physical space…as she said in an earlier speech during this tour that she has no time to be bitter for all the hate she’s experienced, that she has better things to do in the short time she has in this life.
    So fascinating how she performed Justify My Love in the formal high fashion of the Victorian/Edwardian era in England (inspired by the costumes in the 1964 film adaptation of the musical My Fair Lady) in contrast to the racy, semi-nude erotic look from the mv of JML. Not lost to Madonna, that behind the “prim and proper” morality and a discriminatory economic class-based society of the Victorian era was a hypocritical double standard where women were expected to be virtuous and relegated to staying at home raising a family, while the men was at the top of the patriarchal order engaged in power politics, making money but also were womanizing and engaging in sexual pursuits that era’s society somewhat condoned. Well, in Madonna’s experience with her advocacy for female empowerment and sexual liberation, that double standard is pretty much at the core of the backlash directed at her.

      And thank you for the eloquent description of the double standards that both prevailed during the Victorian era and drove much of the backlash against Madonna at that time. Very well said. ❤️

    So glad you loved Justify my love. It’s my favorite performance of that song live. Interesting fact for you ladies in the future Madonna tours we hope we can react with you. I've been a fan since 2006, and until earlier this year, this was one of the concerts of hers I never got around to watching (erotica's not among my favorite eras). But OMG, this concert is objectively among her best, if not THE best. The energy, the journey it takes you on, the amount of FUN you can tell she's having-it amazes me that I don't see it referenced as much as her others (I believe it was much shorter, with fewer dates than her other tours). Which is a shame. because it's so good! I really enjoyed watching this with you. Thank you for this joinery. So much more to come. 30 years worth to be exact! 😁This woman is INCREDIBLE!

    • @moonstone1159
      @moonstone1159 10 месяцев назад +1

      The Erotica era was the one that really perked my ears not only because her sound was so different (and I loved the previous eras), but because she was so daring and courageous as an artist and as a woman. More than ever she exemplified and embodied COURAGE to me, and also this era was like a big middle -finger salute to her critics. (That's how I took it; I sypathized with her rage.) She paid for it, tho, with the waves of backlash that ensued. But she's never stopped, not then and not now.

    So I saw the opening night of this tour in London at the old Wembley stadium.. The press absolutely tore the show and her to pieces saying she was tired and needed to go away. I remember standing transfixed for the whole show taking in every nuance and minute detail of the performance. I stood and cried at the end as I had so many emotions running through my head.. I saw the the show again the following 2 nights sleeping outside in the cold on the steps of the stadium. No other artist compares to her when making an audience feel so involved and have some many different emotions in a show. I saw the celebration tour in October on the opening night again of the tour.. again I cried, this time not just for my own reactions and feelings but for her. To still be performing at such an incredible artistic level but for making it through such a dark time in the months before and being able to stand there in the present to feel such love in a room for her.

    I loved the use of Sly & The Family Stone's song "Everybody Is a Star" with Madonna's "Everybody" at the end. In fact, the concert leaned into funk elements throughtout the concert but especially in the early section and at the end. The reinvention element in Madonna's concerts make us all feel like a "wergin" whenever we hear an older song performed anew. BTW, "Like a Virgin" was sung and portrayed here by a Marlene Deitrich charcter, another one of Madonna's female heroes. Fabulous concert tour!

She has two children, gets married to Guy Ritchie, records 3 more albums, and makes her greatest film, Evita. Would love you to review that, btw. The media were actually starting to get to Madonna as I remember her saying in an interview that she won’t tour again after The Girlie Show. Her gay brother, Christopher, worked on this tour, and commented that this tour could have been the totality of her tours, in his opinion. I can definitely see it, as well, bit i still have to admire how she kept going. I mean, Confessions, what a great tour
    Here, though and prior, she was just thoroughly able to portay in a certain single way the Innocence and wisdom derived from living within the world. And it opened up a greater hunger.

      @@OurAnxiousReactions Madonna believes in a community of artists-collaborating, influencing and helping each other. She has been gracious and appreciative of the influence earlier artists have meant to her by paying homage to them in her own work. In turn, throughout her career, she has mentored and collaborated with younger and lesser known artists, dancers, musicians-opening doors for them and others that followed to be successful. She has showcased music and art forms from different cultures into mainstream pop music world. She has honored earlier artists who trail-blazed, by herself creating new paths for other artists to follow. She is not only a creator of art, she’s also a patron of the arts by educating society in appreciating the history and beauty of various art forms through her artistry. She has invested in her collection of artworks from artists she admired that influenced her. Above all, she has used her artistic platform in her activism to raise social and humanitarian awareness, advocate for change on relevant issues facing society. She has supported and generously given her time, money and effort for many worthy causes-suggest viewers to read online: Philantrophy and Activism of Madonna. The justify my love vibe and concept is a nod to society general hypocrisy when it comes to attitude towards sexual matters. The restrained Victorian era costume represents the repression on the surface, whilst the bit where they were all moving freely under the cover of the blanket is what's behind closed doors. The freedom of which was only afforded to certain segments of society. It's a clever way of representing the message of the song.

    Love this end of the show. The "Justify my love" show is so misterious for me, one thing i have never seen in a music show, that it gives a special taste to the perfomance. The end is so disturbing that i would love to know the meaning of all the perfomance. And "Everybody" is so happy and enjoyable, that is the best way for finishing the show. Loved also that at the end, Madonna was the harlequin herself. Loved how you enjoyed all the show and you try always to give an interpretation to every segments of every song. You are doing a great job in your reactions 😘😘😘

    Love this Justify My Love!
    Using Edwardian society, notoriously repressed and morally judgemental, as a lens in which to view that song was so genius.
    And obviously aesthetically pleasing....those My Fair Lady inspired costumes 🖤🤍🖤

    I’ve so enjoyed rewatching this tour with you guys ❤❤
    You summed it up….. celebration of life.
    Her music choices for tours are chosen to tell a story and for the most part have a purpose in their placement. Some songs just wouldn’t be chosen for this reason. Too many to hits to cover now.
    This tour gave you the promotion of erotica and a sprinkle of hits to keep all happy.
    She always has the best dancers and musicians 😊
    Great reaction as always and look forward to watching the next era with you ❤❤

Unfortunately the next two albums have no accompanying tour, but I look forward to your Bedtime Stories reaction, as it’s yet another side of Madonna, a bit softer than Erotica. Just to check-based on your chronological format, the next Madonna music video is the ballad-I’ll Remember-released as the lead single/theme song from the soundtrack of the 1994 film With Honors. She co-wrote this with Patrick Leonard and Richard Page. She produced the single with Leonard. Alek Keshishian directed the mv and also the film. It’s good you’re using the official music videos from her RUclips channel-Madonna, in your journey. Very glad to see you’re almost at the 1K subscribers. You deserve all the viewership for your fascinating content and focus on Madonna’s music and artistry.

    Not sure if mentioned already but both Blond Ambition and the Girlie show were directed by her brother Christopher, maybe that's why these shows are so theatrical. I don't think she worked with him again after this. There was also something different about her voice in this era. The growling that she does here is so unique but was probably very damaging as well.

    It’s always strange going to other concerts after experiencing Madonna. I always end up comparing them to her shows in some way and, I’m sorry, but no other artist has ever matched her on stage; so I usually end up a bit disappointed. Unfair to other artists, I know. Madonna is the greatest performer of all time, imo. Yes, even better than Michael Jackson. Madonna never chained herself to the past in the way he did by doing every show with the same choreo and arrangements (as iconic as those are). She kept it fresh and always pushed herself creatively.

      I so agree with you yes Michael was King . Early days media always said she was wanting to be Michael . Could not be further from the truth. Madonna AKA the Queen blazed her own path from the start and as you said every concert tour gets bigger and better and fresh. She never repeats anything. She is such a creative soul. We are blessed to have her and her share her talents.
