Please do not strecht before your skate session! stretching should always be done afte the excercise in this case jumping most of the time. being lose is never good when you want to put muscles under tention!! it increases the risk of injury. It might feel better but it realy is not! it is the chiropracter effect. strechting is supposed to relax the muscle after it has been put under stress. best warm up is an easy version of the thing you wanna do. you wanna jump high. start with easy small jumps. think about it. you dont strech and then jump over 5 boards. you start with 1 or 2 until you get to 5. if you feel sore from just pushing your board around that means your muscles are tid! it could be that the strechting before the actuall work out (skate session) causes it to cramp up afterwards! switch it around. start with some low effort ollies.180's and shov its before doing 360 flips and varials. strech after your session! your body will thank you!!
Sorry, to be that dude but that is only partially correct. Stretching dynamicly before a sesh, workout or whatever is great for loosing up your muscles and that does indeed prevent injuries! Your ligaments and tendons too will thank you. Obviously those stretches should not reach maximum capacity but only partial. And static stretches are meant for after the session. If you meant that, you are right. Those stretches can indeed be too much pressure before the heavy workload of skateboarding, but dynamic stretches are definitly a big help for your body.
I've heard it said that dynamic stretching can help since it's similar movements to skateboarding. Stuff like rotating your legs and hips around rather than stuff like putting your fingers to your toes. It's helped me a lot, but I'd love a second opinion on that.
In my opinion stretching before and after skating is not a good idea. If you want to warmup find some yt video abotu skate warm up without stretching or with dynamic stretch. I prefer to stretch a few hours after skating (best for me is morning and evening) I treat it as a separate training unit. Back to warm-up, the word itself says to raise the body temperature, a warmed-up body is more malleable and responsive to what is going on around you. It can be such a warm-up as before PE, and then starting with small tricks and a quiet progression. I would add that the moment we start to get frustrated with a trick is the moment when we stop learning. It's a good idea then to slow down take a few deep breaths and do it calmly or just let it go. Another tip would be to listen to your body. Had a plan to learn something on the ledge but you're totally not feeling it, instead those stairs are somehow strangely coming out right today? Go for the stairs :)
True! I Always ride with my bike 15min to the skatepark. And there is a big ass hill on the way. Perfect warmup! Going home often sucks though.... But stretching at home afterwards is so important for me, otherwise i will feel sore as fuck. If I take like 20-30min and strech my whole body I feel soo much better on the next day. But sometimes when you feel stiff its nice to do some dynamic stretching before a session
Love these tips! This vid came at the right time for me. I'm two years in to skating at the age of 42. And I'm kinda struggling with a lot of basic tricks(especially ollieing up ledges and over objects) which causes a lot of stress and anxiety and leads to slams. I like your tip about doing a bunch of stuff you know you can do before hitting those stressful tricks. My tricks I can do are quite limited though so i always worry about looking like the kook who is just doing the one of two tricks over and over for hours(Even if I find them really fun). Also, are you able to post a quick stretching and warm up routine for beginners?
Awesome! The best decision I’ve made in years was picking up the skateboard 6 months ago at 45 (I skated a little bit for maybe less than a year at 15) I’m fitter than I’ve ever been and learning a ton. I’ve started warming up by going through a list of simple tricks and not moving on to the next until I get 10 of each that I’m happy with -manualing from crack to crack, no comply 180, Ollie, frontside 180, shoveit and fakie shoveit. I get to 10 quicker and quicker and then add a new trick that I’m working on. By then I’m warmed up more than enough and move on to more difficult things… maybe that kind of approach might help? Rock on anyway 🤟🏻🤟🏻
@@alexearl230 thank you! That's a good list of tricks and I think I feel comfortable with the majority of those ones so they definitely work in a warm up. I always love catching us 40years plus people at the skatepark

You should always stretch before doing something active or dynamic. That's how you tear sonething.

Put your back foot on the edge of the tail and life your knees really high and think about landing with what was your front foot first.
