If a macaw pair in the wild will accept this man-made structure as a nest box it will help so much with breeding. I'm assuming this is a replacement for a tree with a cavity large enough for a macaw to incubate eggs and raise young. I'm glad to see some human beings trying to compensate for the loss of habitat caused by other humans.
Hi Vicky, We've put up 3 nesting boxes so far, as there are not as many natural cavities left in the wild. Unfortunately, although we have Macaws in the trees daily, they have yet to choose our boxes for a nesting site. The fellow who put them up has put them in other locations with success, so we're still hopeful. The start of breeding season is around Oct. so, as we'll be there at the time, we'll post if we have success. Keep your fingers crossed!
