Great explanation of how lower pound test braids function. With the ability to upside your leader to whatever you want, 8 and 10 lb. braid definitely lowers the water intrusion of your casts and lure presentation.

I've been using a beast of a rod, reel and line for years. Some reason I thought I need heavy line.... And it's wearing on my wrist and shoulder. Today the reel broke. Found your vid today and love your rod/reel/line setup. Going to get all 3 of them tomorrow. CANNOT WAIT to cast something lightweight and smooth. Don't know why I waited so long. Been catching and spooking lots of reds the past 5 days.. ...

I grew up using 6 lb test at the beach for snook and stuff around Sarasota and it was almost always strong enough. That was back in the monofilament days. 8 lb braid should be plenty strong unless you have big structure and fish that will use the structure. I've been using 10 without any problem. Now I wonder how much farther 8 casts.

Capt, have you tried Varivas? I am a huge power pro guy but i spooled up 2 reels with “Varivas 8” 23lb and I am in love with it. Same diameter as power pro 8LB so you can cast a mile!

Hi, has this braid held up since you’ve commented? I have a Stradic 2000SHG that only held 74yrds of 10LB power pro slick. How many yards did you get?

Thanks for the video. Do you you use any backing to the braid line?
Also for lake fishing, could you get away with a high viz line like?

Great videos CA!!! You know I mainly fish the 10,000 islands area and flamingo. I do spend time on the flat site casting, but 50% of the time we’re fishing close to mangroves and very often tossing/flipping under the mangroves. Do you still suggest that 8 pound test will work if we’re not simply looking for long distance over a flat? Currently I am using 15 pound PowerPro. I am just wondering your opinion. Thanks.

Hey Captain long time follower I have a few rods with 3000 size reels spooled with 8 pound braid. I have found that on windy days casting in a across wind the line wraps around the tip section when casting. Have you come across that issue? Any way to minimize it? Don't get get the issue when using 10 pound braid. Thanks

Here’s what I do first feather your cast when you cast with your index finger. Also the Power Pro Super Slick V2 has an Enhanced Body Technology (EBT) which gives it a slightly more wire like quality in its over feel and resists tip wraps!

It have been a few year, so I hope the new lines are better but how well does that light of a line resist wind knotting?
Nothing frustrates me more than line twist and wing knotting...

The only issue I see is wind knots with that light of a line.
