This is by far my favorite episode of the show, and not _just_ because of the respectful Bob Ross parody. We got to see a glimpse of Riley's softer side that he has troubles expressing. I think I was 18 or so when I first saw this, and I saw a lot myself in Riley here. It reminded me of my old art teacher from elementary school who saw past my bratty facade and nurtured my ability to express myself through art. Love this episode.
good news is they stream all episodes of "the joy of painting" on twitch during weekends and special occations. bad news is it's owned and operated by thieves so I would advice against subscribing/giving any money
Not only is the art teacher a real one But he did what a good teacher should found away to connect with a young artist and steer him in a better direction Rip Bob Ross
@@armpit_farts7327 a lot of people think it’s Huey/Riley’s parents. They never clarify it, but Huey’s reaction on top of grandad claiming to never have found love.
This episode’s amazing and the music sequence at the end when they’re running is something only the greatest shows can do. Tear up often at the end. “Thanks, boy.” Whew 😥
11:44 thats actually very good artistic advice....some of the greatest works in history were nothing spectacular detail wise but the creativity in the subject and inspiration gave a lasting impact.
Watching Bob Ross back in the day was something else. You'd be randomly flipping throw the five total channels you had on a Saturday afternoon, nothing was on, so you'd try PBS... It'd just be a calm white dude with a big afro and beard wearing jeans, and a blank canvas, and you'd be like, "OK, I'll give this a minute..." And then you'd get sucked in, as his soothing voice would walk along the steps as a majestic landscape started to form. 30 minutes never went by so quick as when Bob Ross was talking about his happy little trees.
So the song they play at the big painting reveal was the song Pete Rock used to sample for is song They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) which ties in to the theme of Riley's mural prompt. Sample at 22:06
When the boondocks turned Bob Ross into Blonde Boss 😂😂😂😂😂😂 The painting more than likely is their parents, no wonder huey looked surprised and grandad got emotional
I have no idea what I get stoned and watch this stuff with you guys, but it's like the least annoying parasocial relationship with "creators" that exists. We just get stoned and watch stuff.
Used to watch Bob Ross on lazy Sundays on PBS while I would draw cartoon characters. It was a relaxing chill show. Then channel 69 would play horror movies Sunday afternoons. Play some Nintendo next. Go outside & play for a couple of hours. Come home to dinner & Married with children at 8pm. In the 90’s/ preteen teen years, the NFL took up my Sunday afternoons.
There are so many layers to this video. You could get something different when watching this episode an infinite times. It is my favorite of the series, and has the best scene in my opinion, than any other episode. Which is the car chase and grandpa seeing the painting sequence. I know this is ya'lls first time watching the series, but I think you'd appreciate it more if you ended up watching it again sometime. I think there are a lot of subtle messages and nuance that can easily be overlooked on a first watch. This show, along with South Park, are the best animated series to do satire, and for discussing topics most people steer tend to stay away from.
18:42 Grandad told Riley while he was whoopin his ass for allegedly lying "You betta stop with that Adult Swim" thats the most parent thing you could possibly say 😂. I never noticed the church dude on the TV Huey was watching was named Rev Gibmo Dinero either, the details in the show was always on point.
I have 1 question, i know it's a cartoon but..where the hell did Robert get his belt from when he was wearing his dressing gown ?. Great reaction again guys.
im guessing YT finally not letting yall post the rest of these eps since a new one hasn't dropped. hopefully its just delayed i love this show and watching it with yall
They've done this in the past. The issue is that they don't make posts or reply to comments so you never know why something has stopped. The were uploading episodes to a series last year but it just stopped suddenly and they never said why, so it'll be the same again. It's been two weeks today since the last so if they've not uploaded by now then chances are good that it's dead in the water. I've been holding off but guess I'll be watching it again on my own.
I guess this confirms Grandad's wife is dead. I guess I always just assumed that but I don't remember it mentioned another time. But it's been so long since I've seen these, so maybe it was brought up more than I remember. It's been fun to to re-watch these, especially along with you guys. But I say all that because even though I just assumed she's dead: we all know how Robert is. There was a decent possibility she was alive and well and just left his goofy ass. 😅 RIP John, you were born to be Grandad.
You should watch the documentary on Bob Ross not the Owen Wilson one. Bob Ross was the man that dude did so much for everybody and so many people robbed him
Yeah, the Owen Wilson movie is not ... good... I thought it was a movie about Bob Ross, too. But it's not, it's some weird parody of him, but not funny. And it looked so cheap and amateurish, like a first student film or something. I don't know how they got Owen Wilson in a starring role for that. I mean, he's not as big a star as he was 15-20 years ago, but he still lands decent roles. A big enough name to land the Bob Ross biopic I *thought* I was getting, anyway.

This episode made me cry. Bob Ross is the nicest guy to have ever lived. He would definitely shoot at the cops for the Joy of Painting.
The ending is amazing.

The ending always guts me: Riley painted the happiest day in Granddad's life.
I always thought it was his son and their parents.
@@darkknight8643 It is Grandad's son and his daughter in law. Episode commentary confirms it, plus Robert wore glasses when he was young, too.
@@DomPeriod what happened to them riley and hueys parents?
The song playing during the chase is Tom Scott performing a cover of "Today" and this episode is why it's been stuck in my head for so many years.

21:45 i wish we couldve saw more stuff like this in the series. their parents and how they ended up in Woodcrest and all that
I dont believe thats their parents. Im pretty sure its Grandad and their grandmother on their wedding day, which is why it hits Grandad so hard.
