I recently picked up a 1999 FATBOY from the original owner. It has 6500 original miles. I love this bike. It’s not my first Harley but this one is my favorite. I love the way it talks to you when it’s warmed up and just setting there. It tells the world ,” I’m an old school Harley.” Fuel injection is great in my truck, my boat, and some bikes but it’s not for me on this 1340 evolution FATBOY………” IT’S ALIVE ! “
Hey Monty! Thanks for watching and for the comment! That is crazy that it only had 6500 miles. The EVO is an excellent engine and I love the raw sound of it with a good set of pipes. It shakes like crazy too just sitting and I love it! Thanks again and here's to many good times to come!
I feel the same way about my '04 Fat Boy. I'm connected to my bike to the point where I actually tell it "I love you". Crazy right ? But, we understand.
They are a sweet machine and this one will be in my family for years and years to come! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!
Hey Thanks!! I Love the Evo! I think you nailed it, "Good Vibration" is a great way to explain the bike. I love this bike! Thanks for taking the time to watch and to comment, I really appreciate it! If you're interested, this video shows a bit more of the story behind the bike. ruclips.net/video/xRaombOs01Y/видео.html Thanks again!
Nice!! 5k miles is nothing! This is honestly one of my most favorite bikes. For more reasons than one. This bike and I get along really well. I hope you enjoy yours and Congrats!
I have 2 inch samson straight pipes on my fatty and it's my third Harley..first was a 84 softail..the last chain drive kick/electric start...it was stolen. Second was a 94 fatboy..my current is a 96 fatboy..love the 1340. Had it for 14 years
Hey Hammer! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. Sorry to hear your bike was stolen! I love my 96 FatBoy! I don't ever plan on getting rid of it and it still runs just as strong as ever. Thanks again!
I hear you!! I was working in the garage last night on the kids bikes and afterwards I had to take it out for an evening spin! My favorite is just cruising along and then dropping it a gear and holding it wide open and just listening to that engine and those pipes scream. My town knows when I need to clear my mind a bit!
Hey! Thanks for taking the time to watch and to leave a comment, I really appreciate it. This bike and I have a pretty cool history and it'll be with me for quite a while. Thanks again!
Sweet bike I have at 95 fat boy that I feel much the same. I couldn't even imagine if it was my father's before I got it but I love it just the same. Be safe brother.
Thanks Brett! These bikes are great and I love them. Yeah, it belonged to my dad before he passed and there are times I go out to ride just to hang out with him and chat with him for a bit. Thanks for watching and for the comment, I really appreciate it.
i know how you feel boy , im the proud owner of and 1991 heritage its my firts bike , i did some mods too andrews ev13 cam , shaved cylinder head , new lifters ,new regulator and stator , brake rotors , rear belt , mustang seat , progessive suspession shocks, led head lights , any way a lot of money on this old bike some people ask why you dont buy a newer bike? and the answer is i like this one
like it man, subscribed! i am getting one soon 1996 FLSTF, used with 15k miles, test rode it and the bikes soul and rumble, went on to my blood! amazing bike! so cool
Thanks!! I am glad you enjoyed it. Congrats on the new bike! This bike rumbles like crazy and when you crack the throttle the bike comes to life and you can't help but smile and twist the throttle more! This bike is more a part of me than a lot of people know and I agree with you, it's in my blood as well! Best of luck with the new bike and thanks for following along, I really appreciate it!
@@MOBStreet83 I put a pipe like yours and did all the liquid changed, runs like new at 15k, been riding around in Vegas and mountain sides in Nevada :) I will post some videos soon!
I purchased a 1997 fatboy last April of 2020. It has 69 K miles on it and is all original and NO modifications. This bike has a great deal of use left in it, regardless of the 69k mileage because I have checked the transmission shaft in and out and up and down clearance and the other hard assembly parts such as crank pin and cam that would make these project rebuild bikes. But being i am already a master mechanic I know that this one did not wear where the major components are concerned. Someones previous care kept the chrome from fading and allowed the factory harley orange and black paint to remain as new. So on this 97 fatboy the 69k mileage actually makes no difference at all. Ill keep it for life because the evo single cam engines are less problems over a course of time and these have your fatter tires and softer ride. These are also perfect as highway long distance because they ride softer and their final fifth gear is a higher ratio
That's pretty sweet that you were able to find a 97 that was in that good of shape and still in stock form! While I was at the Harley Dealership I saw multiple bikes with over 100k miles on them that were still running great! The owners had taken very good care of them and they had ridden them all over! I'm a fan of the Evo also, just because it feels like it has a different character than the Twin Cams. I love that the bike shakes at idle and smooths out with higher RPM. Thanks for taking the time to share your story, I appreciate it! Here's to many more miles to come!
@@MOBStreet83 We own the good stuff. The 80 ci 1340 is close to exactly the same thing as the shovel was. Also the evo has a longer stroke than the twin cam 88 has. On my 97 fatboy i have noticed that when I am riding at 45 miles per hour, that I dont need to be above third gear, and even in fourth gear at that speed is a little too high. I mention 45 mph because where i live in Houston Tx on edgebrook main drive four lane stretches 3 miles, so I have to use that to enter Pasadena. So these fatboys have the potential to be an electra if a person wanted that or that someone with an electra doesnt have something that is more than what I have. For an older shovel owner at age 65 presently the fatboy evo is the biggest and great for local or highway. Their is two things I liked better on my shovels , but not enough to make me get another and that is the rockers lubricated well and were easy to remove, plus I believe the tube to rocker oiling was actually better than the pushrod to rocker oiling. But with the evo it offers advantages such as the 5 speed transmission.
Hey man love your channel just subbed. Sorry about your father my man. Can’t imagine. But I agree with you on evos. I have had shovels etc. evo is the most reliable last real engine that Harley made.
Hey Brian! Thanks, I really appreciate it. Yeah, I love this Evo and how great they are. It's been an awesome machine and I am looking forward to the many more miles we'll have with it!
I have a 1991 fatboy machining numbers running a EV46 cam mikuni 42 chrome molly adjustable push rods V&H long shots staggered pipes runs like a dream definitely a keeper
That sounds like a healthy combo! I wanted to get the EV27 but never did.........but maybe I should now! Those long shots are a great sounding exhaust also. I agree with you, definitely worth keeping! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Can you let me know what year tanks you added? I have a 97 FatBoy that’s I would love to upgrade. Thank you for this review. I love my fatty as well, best bike ever made.
Hey George! Yeah, they are the Drag Specialties Fat Bob 5 gallon tanks, here is the part number DS-391238. They make a six gallon tank set as well. You can go to the Drag Specialties website, type in your bike and look under tanks and fenders and it should show you all the options. I agree, you can't beat these bikes! Hey Glenn! I have had my 96 FatBoy for 10 years and have 50k miles on it. I have never had an issue with the solid rims. Mine have been great, held up really well and haven't been a problem for me. I have heard stories with them as well, but have been good with mine.
Hard pack gravel it does okay, that's what part of my driveway is. Loose gravel, or thick gravel I'm not certain, I haven't had a ton of experience with it. Take it slow and you should be okay!
Sweet!! I'm glad you have that bike, I absolutely love it! Are you serious about the vibration? That bike shakes back and forth just idling in the driveway. That engine is a solid mount straight to the frame so every bit of vibration from that engine is coming through the frame and into the handlebars, seat, everything. Or, are you talking about something else all together?
Glad to hear all this, picking up a 96 Fatboy tomorrow.👍
