The leslie speaker has one speaker for both the lower and higher end. The higher end speaker has two rotating horns over the speaker itself something like this ---_--- while the bass speaker has rotating holed cylinder around it |_| . You do need separate microphones to pick up the sound to record the sound properly since it depends on true three dimensional acoustic phenomena. The cabinet itself has no microphones in it.
I’ve been toying with this dilemma for a long time, where you need a specific sound for one or two songs a gig. Sold my flanger, pog2 wah and got a boss md-500. It’s not the best at any specific thing but it’s good enough to do all of it and saves a tone of space on my board.
I was actually considering the Hotone Roto, as it seemed like an ok if thin sounding UniVibe clone, but I think you're right about what you said in your pedal tour video, more of a weird chorus than a leslie..anyway looking forward to your cats and sweaters tour vid. Huge fan of both!
Heard a band use it the other day. Very cool and great sound out the little box. I wish I had more money and space on my board for one. I have a couple of choruses I love and use. One analog and one digital. So its hard for me see to spend around $150 for this. But if I had the extra money I may snag it.
I just subscribed & dig you & your chanel. I just bought this pedal last week used for $99 & I have to say, I love the deep chorus & think it's better than the Ce-2.
Did you get an answer on this? I recommend the JHS episode on Univibe 101. To me the difference is that the Univibe has a heavy LFO pulse to it where the Rotary is a speaker rotating so it sounds more like tremelo with phase, but less of a low thuddy pulse.
electro harmonix makes good rotary.. and tech21... but they are expensive... boy I love rotary sound... hard to find a good pedal to simulate it... must be saving now... as for this pedal - not what I expected... sad (

I just bought one of these! I can't wait! I love my EHX Lester G, but it was more than double the price of the Keeley. It sounds GREAT!
