You can bend your neck near the top of your neck when nodding but keep most of your lower neck neutral. You can also bend at the base of your neck without nodding. Each movement seems mostly independent yet the only terms I hear are flexion and extension. What are the medical terms for bending at the top (nodding) versus bending at the bottom (looking down/up)?
I am genuinely unsure where the fourth plane of movement is; biomechanically speaking three are normally taught/discussed, i.e., coronal/frontal, sagittal, transverse. Also, there are combination movements within the spine during rotation and lateral flexion of an intact spine.
In February 2011, I sustained a back injury while lifting a heavy object without proper form. My back was bent rather than straight, and as I lifted, I felt a severe cramp-like sensation, causing me to collapse onto a nearby bed. Since then, I've been unable to fully rotate or bend laterally without encountering a knot or stiffness around the bottom of my thoracic spine. While watching your video, I began to suspect that a disc might have been overstretched. Could you provide any advice on this? Would performing back stretches, such as the cat-cow stretch and arching my back, be beneficial, or should I consult a doctor first? Thank you for your help.
In the beggining i dont get it when you say FASAY -- I just realized you were saying faceT joint when you started pointing on the joint it self. Nice vidoe though. Thanks
I want to know why whenever I bent sideways, my spine (I think it's the spine) makes a movement noise. It's not a popping sound, it's an actual noise. I don't know how to explain it but it's kind of deep and it's like mostly bone sounds, like when a robot moves if you want to put it that way lol. If you get what I mean. Is it dangerous if it happens? I'm also around 15 and I just wanna know what the case is Maybe I just didn't notice the sound and everyone has it? I really wanna know tho
this video makes so much more sense!! thank you so much
Thank you! The color on the facet joints was very helpful.
thankyou for showing how its works on rotation.
That really beneficial video and informative too keep it on I love your channel
Tyvm the rotation was killing me... now I get it
So good! To the point and precise. Thank you

Can you please also make a video teaching how to mobilize if there's restriction of rotation in thoracic vertebrae and lumbar and cervical too
though yoga
Thank you so much for this video. Any chance you can refer to video explain " the nucleus shifting consideration" ?
Yes, will be making one in the future!

I’m glad you liked it! Thank you for watching!

I’m wondering why t-10 rolls back posterior onto t-11 instead of gliding/sliding? Facet joints are gliding joints no?
Love it ❤

How many degrees of freedom does the zygapophyseal joint have?

I just understood everything i couldn’t understand stood for text
Why use thoracic spine for flex/ext example when that’s not its role? Better example would be lumbar or cervical.
Perhaps because a lot of people get back pain here as well.
