    There are Chinese people everywhere. Think about one country that doesn’t have a Chinatown or a Chinese community. They aren’t afraid to move to a country they know nothing of, start a business, grow a community, and integrate to the culture. I’m originally from the Dominican Republic and there’s a Chinatown close to where I grew up. Oddly, when my parents decided to move to New York, we ended up in a Hispanic neighborhood right next to a Chinatown. I don’t even have Chinese blood in me and I still feel part Chinese just growing up next to them.

      So when Chinese keep their culture and segregate themselves to chinatowns its fine. When jews do the same, it’s fine. When muslims do it, they are not integrating into society and should go back to their countries. Not saying that is your stance, but the double standards are such bullshit.

      I visited the DR two months ago and went to the Barrio Chino next to México. I was amazed to see that most of them run a picapollo, but there weren't many Chinese outside of Santo Domingo. Not in Higuey, not in San Pedro at least. Dominicans seemed to be fine with the Chinese, but neither the Chinese nor the Dominicans seemed to like Haitians very much.

      Definitely! Why not ? I know most people from outside Jamaica think it is a exclusively African ancestry country. There are many Jamaicans of Asian, European, Irish, Arabic and indigenous Carib and Arawak. Out Of Many One People.

    • @tudormiller8898

      @Legba daniels Didn't you hear the guy ? He's Jamaican first, Chinese second. So Jamaicans living in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are Jamaican first and thier nationality second ? Ridiculous.

    • @tudormiller8898
      @tudormiller8898 4 года назад +1

      It would be the same for a Jamaican of African ancestry living and working outside of Jamaica. They'd describe themselves as whatever thier nationality is first and thier Jamaican ethnicity second. It also depends on thier experiences in that country. If it's positive, it's nationality first, but if it's negative it's always thier Jamaican heritage first.

    • @tudormiller8898
      @tudormiller8898 4 года назад +3

      @Legba daniels Is that because only Jamaicans of African ancestry can be authentic Jamaicans ? If you're European, Asian, Arab, Jewish, Gypsy, you'll never be a Jamaican no matter how long you've been in Jamaica ?

    After slavery ended a lot of people wanted to get as far away from plantation life as they could. Those who could started small farms and if they could make a go of it did not work for their old masters. Also, , women were farm laborers under slavery and afterwards preferred to take care of their own homes rather than work continue to do farm labor. There continued to be a lot of former slaves working on plantations, but not enough, which is why Indians and Chinese were imported.

    I think we really need to put this out more in Jamaica. We really need to emphasize this in the schools. Teach them about all the races and how they contribute to the country, not just the blacks and we all know about the whites. They need to talk about the Chinese and indians more too. Out of many one people eh? We don't really Express or show it in this time and age. I have chinese, black, Indian, and Portuguese background and I'm always ready to learn about each and every one of them.

The selling that actually ceased when shiny trinkets no longer worked and the Europeans started using force. Are Black Africans the ones who left their continent to steal people of another race to build their Empire on the other side of the world. I once met an Oriental looking girl with a Caribbean accent. She was kind of dark-skinned but looked 100% Oriental. I asked her where she was from and she said she was Jamaican, and 3/4 Chinese and 1/4 Indian (from India). What an interesting combo. I wish people would stop associating nationality with race. My family is from Peru and whether you believe it or not we have Black people and also people with blonde hair and blue eyes, and even an Indian (from India) community, Jews, etc. It all depends on where you go. In some places in Peru where there was heavy Spanish settlement the people are light-skinned, and in other places where there were mostly Natives the people are dark. It's a mix. Every country is like that.

    It is always good to hear the different sides of 'every story", still I left this documentary with the feeling that the main intention was ONLY to highlight the experiences of other racial minorities. As a girl from Mlle, I can attest to the fact that Blacks are oppressed too by a lot of minorities.

Before the British hijacked their ships and stole the slaves… but Africans always engaged in tribal slavery which is why Jamaican heritage isn’t just Ghanaian but Nigerian Cameroon n Congo etc

    Things are changing rapidly in Jamaica. Even as we speak there’s a whole new wave of Chinese immigrants coming to Jamaica. But these aren’t the indentured peasants of the past; they are wealthy Chinese businessmen and they’re making their presence felt. Anybody rode on the Beijing highway lately? Fastest way to Kingston from Ocho Rios. In another 10 or 15 years, it’ll be Jamaicans having to learn to adapt to Chinese culture.

    Out of many one people.
    It should be noted that the economic, political, and legal access problems faced by black Jamaicans were likely greater than those faced by visibly Chinese or Pakistan/Indian descendants due to the voluntary nature of their indentured servitude, the implicit threat a black majority population posed to the ruling whites, and the ongoing consequences of generations of racialized child slavery and white supremacy.

    @Bardo515 involvement as she would have liked. (This also corresponds with the time it takes to have school-aged children) which would explain why your aunt would have seen changes in interactions from the older working generation of the time, and younger active Jamaicans of Chinese desent. Who were/are more Jamaican than Chinese. Slowly, my grandparents lost the ability to speak their native language, (Hakka),shunning all customes (except for food-- or should give that up as well??)

    Hey guys Jesus loves you He died for your sins past,present,and future. He was buried then rose again on the third day so you can be saved,so that you can have the free gift of Salvation.If you want God in your life just seek Him truly put your faith in Him and accept Him as your Lord and savior.It is by God’s grace through faith that you can be saved. Repentance is turning away from sin and turn to God and confessing to Him and asking for forgiveness.❤️

    My biological grandfather was chinese jamaican and my grandmother black jamaican. I was told that when she got pregnant his family paid her to move to the UK as they were high in government in jamaica and didnt want their sons association with her. Anyway she came to UK and had a son and gave him his fathers name Charles Emmanuelle (sounds like) MOOPOW. Ive no interest in finding anyone, but the name intrigues me, is it common in jamaica and where in China does it come from. Does anyone know??

    @Bardo515 for a few hours to start all over again the next day. This is why many of them lived in the store itself in the beginning. Let me ask you, if you lived this kind of life, would you have time to socialize with the community the way you would otherwise want to? I think not. People were not necessarily living the life they wanted, its called doing what you need to do to suvive. Fully assimulating can take at least 10 years(a decade)This is why your Aunt may not have seen as much community

    First of all, there was nothing mentioned in my posts about Canada good/bad. We did not come to Canada to "make money, not contribute to the economy or not give back to the community" or worse isolate ourselves. I am a hardworking, law abiding citizen,contributes to this country and have a civil relationship with "everyone". Globalization has allowed interracial mingling however, I still find the Jamaican Chinese people in Mandeville to be very segregated. I'm just sayin"

    As a child, I do remember my grandaunt saying that the Chinese people in Jamaica had a very elitist attitude, whereas, they did not associate/socialize outside of their ethnic group, they feel that they are superior to others, they were disrespectful to those they deemed “less than” (normally, the black Jamaicans) and that they kept the wealth amongst themselves and did not give back to the community. Essentially, they were racist, misers in her view!
