How did Ebert give it a thumbs down, he mentions like 20 things he likes about it and obviously was very enthusiastic about it. Siskel was just clueless, Lost Boys is an 80s classic and definitely stands the test of time as a fun horror comedy film.
Well I saw it at the theater when it came out and loved it. Dont know what these two are talking about. The ending was great with a twist. Quess you had to have been young to appreciate it. Im 57 now, and still enjoy watching it. So there goes that logic.
They thought it had a bad ending lol. Had one of the best closing lines ever said by Grandpa, One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach: all the damn vampires.
It's a silly, fun, teenager vampire movie. That is why Siskel and Ebert didn't really appreciate it. It's too straight up goofy for them or something. It's one of the best 80s movies, in my opinion.
I like it but also agree about its weaknesses. Maybe they missed a lot of the humour though, I never thought it was intended to be serious. J.S movies are often overpacked with characters and need to learn a little restraint and so on, that's what went wrong when he took over the batman franchise in the mid to late 90s.
"the ending of the film is simply action and special effects" ..umm well duh ebert ! lol it's a vampire flick ! not a drama.. and little did siskel and ebert know how memorable the lost boys would become..
Lost Boys rules! Siskel and Ebert are wrong here! And its strange how they say its so good then they give it a thumbs down. This movie is a cult classic and was way popular when it came out. And it's ironic bc I just watched it on You tube movies lol
@@lw3646 I will say in Joel's defense that he was doing what the studio told him to do. I think, given the opportunity, Schumacher would have delivered a better Batman adventures. He wasn't a terrible director but one shouldn't go into his films with high expectations.
Flash forward 30 years, and the Lost Boys is a cult fan favorite. What was Ebert expecting at the end of a vampire film, the lead vampire dying in bed holding a snow globe and saying "Rosebud", as he dies from being staked in the heart?
I would not use the word adequate to describe this movie. This movie surprised me. I never liked movies about vampires, but this movie grows on you until it's over.
I loved this movie when I was a teenager but they were right, the movie is laughable and doesn't stand the test of time unless you are blinded by nostalgia, which is fine, nostalgia is a perfect good reason for liking something. But the film is on par with B movie content and it could fit comfortably in a "so bad it's good" category.
Ever since I got this review wrong it's a cult classic and probably one of the best movies any of these people have ever made! Absolutely gorgeous movie what are soundtrack that get stuck in your head
Not sure if it's overrated but yeah, the overreaction by YT commentators to two guys just giving their honest opinion on a movie that's hardly on the same level as Fargo or Goodfellas is pretty ridiculous.
How did Ebert give it a thumbs down, he mentions like 20 things he likes about it and obviously was very enthusiastic about it. Siskel was just clueless, Lost Boys is an 80s classic and definitely stands the test of time as a fun horror comedy film.
They missed the boat on this one. The Lost Boys is a CLASSIC and is WIDELY recognized as such.
No it's not and no it isn't.
They like Speed 2 but not The Lost Boys. Smh
🤣🤣🤣right
siskel is so clueless, and ebert was way off about this one..
Wrong. The public loved it. History has spoken.
I don't care, I liked it. And Jamie Gertz is easy on the eyes.

I loved it as well! Saw it in the movies!! Classic
I was a kid when it came out, but I never watched it until last night. It was good. I'll definitely watch it again.
@@willieloomis5958 The 4k disc looks pretty nice.
They thought it had a bad ending lol. Had one of the best closing lines ever said by Grandpa, One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach: all the damn vampires.
why did they have to show the ending? SMH
a great movie in my opinion.
I'm really surprised by this. It's one of my favorite movies to this day. A great horror comedy.

Ebert said Joel Schumacher directed "The Possession of Joel Delaney" with Shirley McClaine.
That's apparently incorrect, according to IMDB.
"the ending of the film is simply action and special effects" ..umm well duh ebert ! lol it's a vampire flick ! not a drama.. and little did siskel and ebert know how memorable the lost boys would become..
The third act is the best part of the movie I do not understand the criticism

Yea. That made no sense. He praises it for a solid minute and a half then down thumbs it. I'd say majority rules, and most liked it. Including myself.
Saw it in the movies! Agreed loved it Classic
Murder capital of the WORLD, Gene! Not, "Mass murder capital of America." lol did you even watch the movie?!?
They missed the boat on this one. Ebert clearly liked it! Should have been a split at worst
It is a vampire movie. It was not meant to be "realistic".
I enjoy this movie!
Idk why They both didn’t like it
Definition of WTF
"Everything about this movie is great. I give it a thumbs down."
No they send its just mindless action at the end, all the early interesting stuff gets chucked to one side.
lol! And of course, this is now a cult horror classic. Just like half of the other horror films they gave a thumbs down to...
It’s a very good movie and it’s fun to watch.
Did these guys watch the same film we did? Oh well, the movie well outlasted them anyway.
Wow, big miss on this one.
A cult classic now that everyone who grew up in the 80s liked, at least people who I have known. That’s probably why it’s on cable all the time.
Joel Schumacher, the late king of middle of the road films.
He was better than that come on.
@@jainee4507 No, he wasn't.
What he did to the Batman films was pretty dire. Sort of think of him as a Roland Emmerich....

Oh c'mon it's the best vampire movie imo
And Fright Night
LOL, hardly.
I agree...my personal favorite vampire movie
This must be the only vampire movie you've ever seen.
Really?
I guess the movie nerds aint goth
Never agreed with many of siskels reviews, surprised ebert didn't give it thumbs up.
Im meeting jason Patrick at comic con in September. Can't wait
These guys came across as arrogant snobs and were frequently wrong. They gave a thumbs down to several block busters
They liked kingpin which I thought was a horrible movie.
Just because its a blockbuster doesn't mean it's good. Look at Independence day, thats one of the worst movies ever made.
WRONG!!!
Wrong dead wrong

That was a gold response
I wonder how it would have been different if Richard Donner had decided to remain as director.
It would’ve been more like the goonies. Joel had the kids ages change from elementary school to teenagers and pushed for an r rating.
Literally young boys and peter pan as a vampire
Realistic vampire movie?
Yeah I'm kind of confused, did they not know its a horror comedy?
thou shall not be lost. thou shall be saved. faith for the sub neo sapien. cannot comprehend higher technologiez
Two chooch rockets and two thumbs down
It was just an adequate film for its times
I would not use the word adequate to describe this movie. This movie surprised me. I never liked movies about vampires, but this movie grows on you until it's over.
A stone cold classic.. boo

I mean it's 80's horror, can't expect the Godfather
Pathetic review. Reviews like this make me want to ask the reviewer: get your own script together and have at it. Btw.. The Lost Boys is excellent!
Ever since I got this review wrong it's a cult classic and probably one of the best movies any of these people have ever made! Absolutely gorgeous movie what are soundtrack that get stuck in your head
Classic cult movie
Inspiration for Twilight!
Hated it
They are right, the most overrated movie ever

both r wrong
