  • At the age of 97 Bill Mather is still active within his community and it's all down to one special Lottery-funded project, the Cowal Elderly Befriending Scheme. Bill lives alone in a small cottage in a rural village and is registered blind. He also walks with a stick but this hasn't stopped him from getting out and about. At least once a week Bill is picked up on a minibus and taken to a nearby village where he catches up with the latest gossip with old friends. Like many of the older people who benefit from the Out and About service Bill would be unable to leave his home if it wasn't for this valuable community project.
BIG's Investing in Communities programme will continue to fund projects though Supporting 21st Century life which has five updated outcomes.
Key outcome: More older people live at home and have better social connections and relationships.
