Elle a plus de 70 ans à ce moment. Bien sûr la voix ne peut plus être là, comme aux beaux jours. Mais la technique, cette technique incroyable continue de soutenir une ligne, et même la douceur du timbre subsiste. Et puis on sent son amour de la musique. Moi je suis bouleversé. Elle nous a tant donné. Je lui dois tant de mes beaux souvenirs. Sigue tan viva en nuestro corazón, señora. Descanse en paz y gracias...

Such quality for such age, what a gifted artist she is. I just don't understand some people who harshly criticised her, wanted her to stop singing. But, gladly her real fans came here to appreciate this heavenly gift of hers. Then and now, you are still divine, Montserrat. Such legend!

Bravo...!!! I agree with you but it's the passion for music that counts most. As a singer myself i can relate. It's VERY difficult too see one's voice age and not be at it's best all the time. But we try because it's our passion.

Yes, she was 73 years old and her health was not good. She was also known to smoke cigarettes. She was brave to sing at 73 and so filled with grace, indeed. Her charming smile and gentle giggles were still there. Charming as ever.

C'est étonnant. C'est un bon jour pour elle. Et cela me confirme qu'elle aurait dû s'arrêter en 2004-2005. Les derniers concerts depuis 2007-2008 où le corps et la voix croulent même avec des béquilles sont d'objectives atrocités, une douleur terrible pour ceux qui aiment Montserrat.. Je pense en particulier à l'épouvantable soirée du Liceo pour les 50ans Je crains, après son dernier accident, de la voir en plus avec un bras en écharpe! Merci donc pour ce moment où notre diva est encore digne.

En dépit des dégâts causés par le temps et la fatigue, mais aussi par une technique finalement pas parfaite (les passages, les cassures, les notes poitrinées et inesthétiques, la prosodie sommaire), c'est encore un tout grand moment de drame. Elle sait faire partager son émotion comme nulle autre! Dans cet extrait du finale de l'oratorio de Massenet, La Vierge, qui parmi les soprani actuels, les plus célèbres inclus, peu encore donner tant de frissonsf? Un instant privilégié. Rare.
on est bien avancé en lisant votre critique acerbe ! mais qui êtes vous pour élucubrer ainsi ! votre intellectualisme ne me fait pas vibrer ! que savez vous faire vous monsieur ou madame pour vous permettre de telles assertions !

C'est sa grande qualité et son grand défaut: tenter l'impossible ! Parfois le pari est gagné et l'on se réjouit. Mais quand il est perdu, c'est difficile à supporter. Son état vocal n'est vraiment pas bon ici mais technique, métier et engagement dramatique emportent le morceau comme on dit. Et on est étonné de ce qu'elle peut faire avec un instrument plus que rebel... Jeune, dans la force de l'âge ou même agée, sa présence nous manquera, j'en suis sûr.
à force de regarder les videos de cette immense dame j'ai pu noter les moments où sa voix n'était pas au rendez-vous: si l'on s'en refaire à cela on peut noter aussi sa santé fragile. (voir la vidéo postée sur you tube où La Superba chante le "padre nuestro" lors de la venue du St Père Benoit XVI où elle n'est pas en très grande forme physique (elle a les traits tirés) mais la voix est là magnifique.)
plus après elle retrouvera la joie de chanter et la communiquera aisément. Merci Madame. Que là haut, je l'espère vous tutoyez les anges et enchantiez les âmes.Merci.

She shouldn't have sung this, it was over ambitious considering her vocal condition. Nevertheless, what a sublime Artist. (If you want to listen her singing the "Extase", go the Rome live version available on Y.T. The BEST ever! Full glory, full voice, full bloom: Golden Age!

Abschied nehmen sollte man nicht wie Callas, Freni und Caballé, sondern wie Christa Ludwig, ohne jegliche stimmliche Anstrengung, ohne unüberhörbares Tremolo, welches die Erinnerung trübt. Alle Damen in Ehren, aber ihr Abschied kam zu spät, viel zu spät, leider!

There's a time in every singer's career to stop singing in public; I'm afraid she's long past it here. She's always been a favorite, but this cringeworthy.

Every great artist reaches that point in her life that she must retire and stay retired from singing. Madam Caballe should have been told calmly, but very bluntly that she can no longer deliver a performance as demonstrated in this video. It would have been much kinder if someone had tapped Caballe on the
shoulder and said "honey, don't come out of the wings tonight, dear".
