      There's a HUGE diff between pardoning dangerous criminals and Hunter Biden who, I believe, would NOT have been pardoned had Kamala Harris won. He would have been mercilessly targeted by the Kash Patel yes man heading the FBI. And who knows if he'd have made it out of jail in tact considering who he is. Pardons are a powerful tool when used ethically.

      How about taking the Rest is Politics Europe ie E ie The Rest is Politics IE for Ireland with Irish quality discussion not just partisan, like US & UK here have. That also gives options for sponsor offer. You'd have The Rest is Politics ES ie Espana. So you can have a Spanish language version with English subtitles & an English language discussion aswell , same with France. So for that reason ex Minister & so forth. Then you can have an international quarterly The Rest Is Politics Global where you guys all sit around and rotate your opinions on your perspective of the big players ie US politics, EU, UK but then discuss your country perspective of it. I think this podcast brand has capacity to be a great global political analysis podcast. You have 2 ends of the analogy couch already, you should just invite in more sections to make the couch bigger & longer & truly help the public be more informed about their neighbouring counties better just like USA. So sad Putin has so decentralised Russia, it ought be more like the USA not under Moscow thumb so much. Putin destroyed Russian local government by appointing & rigged & 5% rule to enter parliament he brought in.

    Trump's life is guided by two things: the need to be adored, and the need to be comfortable. So the inauguration issue is about this: what's more important, him seeing thousands of adoring fans or him not being cold? I think what gives it away are the billionaires: he got to be adored by the people he really cares about while also being comfortable. So all this shows is that he doesn't really care about the bulk of his supporters.

      It is very unfortunate though that Trump got to issue the pardon. Biden should have done it instead.

    Question for you guys with some sense of European history:
    Watching Trump for the past two years I’d been really thinking he was borrowing from German National Socialism rhetoric from 1930-33. The 2020 election “steal” was the “1918 stabbed in the back” libel. Southern border “invasions” were the “Jewish and Asiatic hoards” invasions from within and from the East commonly heard from Nazis. Nazis were hyper-focused on “tradition” “patriarchal authority” racial purity, fixed gender roles and of course being the leading bulwark against communism. But Hitler was also focused on Lebensraum, territorial self-sufficiency and creating a continental empire in the East that would rival England and France.
    Well…the USA already has an empire. What would we do? LOL…Invade Poland?
    Well guess what? Trump now DOES want territorial expansion into Panama, Greenland, Mexico and even Canada!
    Who is going to stop him?

      I am very unfortunately American. A former theologian turned historian, the evangelical christian influence is beyond what y’all could fathom. The churches pump unlimited monies into politics lobbiests and are compensated for their efforts pushing far right agenda. Democrats are “baby killers” (women’s health advocates).
      Immigrants are terrified, my queer communities is spiraling, and each signature on those papers is an act of violence against its citizens. If they care nothing for us, they view foreigners with a similar lack of humanity.
      They have folklore on their side, UK are the Christian persecutors who drove them out, they have created a mythos. It’s a radical movement that has become mainstream and aligns perfectly with the goals of radical racial movements like the KKK. Trumo has never once denounced any act of racism. It’s so much worse than 1930’s Germany because the fight is for the world’s souls.. and we know what zealots are capable of when given unlimited power and fear…. I am on track to at least be in Canada before the next election.

    The removal of the EV tax credit benefits Musk. Tesla is THE major player in EVs, and certainly the only EV manufacturer who can sell them at a profit thanks to their economies of scale. Removing the credit will hit Tesla, but it will hit other EV companies a thousand times harder, as they're now going to be making a (proportionally) vastly greater loss per vehicle without the credit. This effectively helps entrench Tesla's position as the market leader. The irony being it benefitted greatly from exactly these credits to get there.

      The automod keeps on removing my comments, it's infuriating, and ironic considering the whole point of a podcast like this is surely to promote discussion. But this comment is exactly correct. It's to help entrench Tesla as the market leader by making it way harder for the competition.

    • @arghnews
      @arghnews 11 дней назад

      @@adambrickley1119 Legacy automakers selling EVs at a loss, even if that loss is partially to offset their ICE vehicles so they don't get fined for this, are still making losses on the EVs period. Add to that all the R&D they've put in just to keep making losses. Yes the bigger ones can absorb it, but it makes it less attractive for them to commit further into EVs, as they have to increase their margin and profitability even more now, which they already couldn't make positive.
      It's a far more significant blow to other pure EV startups. Rivian, Polestar, Lucid etc. Especially to them trying to sell any vehicle at scale (as obviously a fixed size credit hits a $60k EV far more than a $200k one).
