I too am the caregiver of a child burned when he was four years old. The trauma was overwhelming. I can remember the staff and how supportive they were. My son was burned over 95% of his four year old body and he is now sixteen. We went through everything from a tracheotomy to a feeding tube. I was put on the fourth floor to give him two pages of meds and two in the frig. The recovery was so long. I had a nursing baby at the time and my mom stayed with me in the hospital at the beginning. My husband came when he could but it was like a bomb went off in our home and we have to deal with all the pieces to be put back together. The doctors had skin grown from a plug of my sons good skin. The only skin on his body was where the dog had been that stayed with him in the fire. I did not realize that I was a survivor also. I guess I was living in the moment and trying to deal with what was happening to my son from day to day. I remember when they first told me I was going to have to care for my son being burned. I was not a nurse. The only nursing I did was with my baby. I could say more but will cut it off there. The memories come in moments and clips of what happened twelve years ago. I appreciate all that the burn nurses did for my son. They knew the patients more than the doctors. We saw them every day. I am also they helped me learn about how to tend to my son while he was burned. I learned a lot. Jesus is the reason he survived. Dr. Hwang was the best burn doctor plastic surgeon my son ever had. John can carry on his memory.
@@adquinn100 What an inspirational story, l know our merciful Saviour too!!! How is your son now? If I was to suffer extensive burns, l would NOT accept lifesaving treatment, just palliative care. This means nothing but painkillers. I could not endure the brutality of dressing changes, hydrotherapy baths, skin grafts. Could I refuse lifesaving treatment? Please could you reply to me, telling me how to obtain the video. God bless!!!
JB, lt takes a very, very, special person to be a burns nurse. Those patients suffer terrible pain, not just the fire, but treatments.l have heard horror stories about "The Tub". Please reply to me. PS, could l refuse lifesaving treatment, and have palliative care, so l can die? I could never endure burns treatment!!!

Brilliant video about families dealing with these catastrophic injuries. I was a burn nurse years ago and really appreciate this so much..
