Bradley Gregg use to rent at the Blockbuster Video I managed in Scottsdale AZ. I knew who he was the first time I saw him because I love this movie. You could tell he just wanted to rent a movie and not be talked to so I never brought anything up...... until Blockbuster wanted to move me to a different store. Once that was in play the next time he came in I talked to him about Nightmare 3, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and of course Class of 1999. I asked him what it was like working with Pam Grier since I have always been in love with. I could see some happy and some sad faces as he remembered... He teared up when talking about River Phoenix who was a good friend. As he was getting ready to leave he stopped and said "this whole time I had rented I thought you had no idea who I was"... I said "nope, I knew it the whole time"..... he smiled and that was the last time I saw him. (I rambled... It looks like an excerpt from a book I wrote or something....)

Class of 1999 was one of those movies I saw when I was under the age of 14 and was watching HBO at like 2am when they used to play anything from the back catalog. Barely remembered the title and thats why I love coming to this channel. It was like a fever dream of childhood memories but this movie stuck out so clearly as some quality schlock. The spanking memes will never get old either.

    • @FrauleinMuller999

Truth. I think all of us have our own favorite "HBO at like 2am when they used to play anything from the back catalog. Barely remembered the title"!
Mines are: Shinjuku incident, New Police Story, a movie about people stranded on a movie set island with murder robots there, some movie about a girl being haunted maybe by a haunted camera or cellphone. I all I remember was she seeing spirit monsters all around, like in the bus or on a walkway
Don't even remember how those were called! but the fever dream of childhood memories stuck with me.

Saaaaaame. I thank my cousin (his parents actually) for paying for HBO. We had cable and HBO early on but gave it up because of costs and because it was deemed a bad cultural influence. Fortunately I could still watch weird stuff at my cousin's. I remember when we saw watched this, some of those deaths hit hard, like the first broken neck. Partly it was so shocking because I was somewhat more sheltered from not having HBO or Skinemax. We caught Total Recall on cable before giving it up but the action and violence was over the top. It wasn't a high school kids getting killed.

I just watched 1984 and 1999 back to back today and I gotta say, I love both of these movies! The violent settings, the widespread punk attire worn by all the gangs, and the fact that 1999 takes place in Seattle, making me way excited to spot landmarks and location details since I am from there! I have no idea why this movie isn't brought up more often here. The fact they took over a whole neighborhood and a high school to commit sheer chaos and insanity is AWESOME.

I've always considered the movie "The Faculty" a spiritual successor to Class of 1999. 🙂 Seeing it that way made me like the movie even more as I love Class of 1999. The robots scared the crap out of me at my first viewing of the film. 😂

    • @AnonEyeMouse
      @AnonEyeMouse 4 года назад +1

Ah yes, The Faculty. I remember that. The poster outside the cinema basically gave away the bad guy. All the primary characters get a freeze frame with their name written on screen. One isn't on the poster. I pointed it out to my then girlfriend. She dumped me for the spoiler. (She dumped my about three times a week for about six months).

Recently visited my friend in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. One afternoon, we took his son to a local park. While walking by a high school in the nice, upper middle class neighborhood, I suddenly remembered that Class of 1999 was filmed in Seattle and checked to see where it was only to find out it was THAT high school right in front me! Unfortunately, no vicious street gangs or robot educators to be seen, but it was cool seeing the setting of a classic B-movie.

When it came out on VHS I played the shit out of it and when it came out on HBO I recorded it and watched it all the time. I thought Cody was the definitive of cool lol and I was obsessed with the song at the at of the credits, "Come the Day. When the hammer falls." I guess this was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Right next to RoboCop. The 80's man lol, nothing like them, till the 90s 🤟

My girlfriend in high school and after had rented this at some point in the early 90s. I was a film nerd but also loved b-movies and she told me about it one night in 1993 or ‘94 when we were 19 or 20 years old. She was honest and actually accurate about it and told me it “interesting”. Based on that and my love of cyberpunk stuff and the rest, I rented it, loved it and super lucked out when either a Blockbuster or Hollywood Video less than a year later were selling off their previously viewed copy which I grabbed.
    It’s nearly always unfairly underrated.
Cool flick. A lot of fun.

There's also a easter egg from "They Live" from John Carpenter in Class of 1999 , the "Obey" "Kill" "Learn" stuff seen in the school .
The red car was stunning in the movie kinda also reminds me to another John Carpenter movie based on a Stephen King novel "Christine" the car in Class of 1999 never got destroyed only shows some bullets maybe it has a connection between each other ? Or done just randomly .
Sadly movies like these we will never have anymore today and in the future . The 1975-1995 era were the best times to make movies with an intellectual mind and with being free . People had billions of ideas to make us the viewer entertained . The 1996-2000 era was the fahrwell and transition years and the downfall from those golden years . And as for 2000-2020 nothing really new got made hence the modern technology that has advanced i agree but nothing to make your jaw drop with a big "WOAW" coming out from it . Everything today gets way too much replicated , there's too many remakes that gets already remade in not even a year , silly re-imaginations which ruins the whole movie already . And as it isn't enough we have those Netflix movies/shows that offers nothing interesting and is also the same over and over .
Movies back then gave us many messages ( many things that are real today ) people needed to read between the lines and even watch a certain movie more than once to comprehend the real meaning . Todays movies gave no more wise messages anymore all they do since these last 15 years is placing tendencies and hate ( politically correctness, feminism , lgbtq, sjw's , vegans, whatsoever ...) which make it impossible to watch a movie or a tv-show seriously and with entertainment and joy .

Your reviews are always amazing. You always find ways to add to the movie and make it even more interesting (than what it usually is)
Your enthusiasm for the work is captivating

You reviewed this one years ago but it’s great to see you revisit it and this review is probably even better giving all the experience you’ve had since then! You should try and redo all the episodes you did that are lost, you know the earlier ones

THANK YOU! I been waiting for this review since 2015 since you always used clips of it on your old intro. I even facebooked messaged you asking where the review was several years ago.
This is one of my favorite films growing up and you taught me several things I never knew about this movie.

I am so glad that you finally decided to review this bro I always see this quick little snippet of class of 1999 when the teacher is giving corporal punishment in the beginning of all your reviews but this is the first time that I seen a review from you about it this is been one of my movies that I grew up with I've watched it numerous times bought the movie numerous times I'm so glad that most of the ideas in like action sequences we agree upon and there is about 60 to 70 per-cent of information that I found out today about how the movie was made so thank you very much for that really good movie and I love your reviews and let's keep the THE GOOD BAD FLICKS coming thank you.

Nice episode - you really do your homework! I loved Class of 84, Commando and Showdown in Little Tokyo, but unfortunately I felt that this movie was a bit unfocused and it lacked likeable characters. The setting were awesome though :) I am looking forward to your next video. I would love to see a top 10 of your favorite movies of all time :)

Abit of trivia for class of 1999 part 2 action scenes. It was choreographed by the same folks who would go on to work on Captain America Winter Soldier. You can even see the same knee kick to the chest on both movies.
