After seeing this video for the second time, I can say, any(qualified) engineer who criticises your work style needs to remember, Qualifications mean nothing if you can't back it up with practical application. You ARE an engineer, an "old school" engineer.
Thank you for your generous words Tim, it was an enjoyable project and a satisfying result, I guess the interpretation of the word has many uses, but the point I was making is pretty much like you say, that I may not have the pieces of paper to wave in the air, but perhaps the hand skills to make a result, and in the end, that's what pays the wages aye?!
Good morning Del and Penny. Hope you are feeling better and getting back to firing on all cylinders. Love the finished result on that gear shifter. In fact, I'm loving the series of re runs, so don't rush your recuperation, we can wait. Having said that, I'm looking forward to what's next in the new workshop. Take care of each other, much love.
Thank you for your kind words Paul, im making progress and we're keeping safe away form the world while im recovering. should be back soon, we plan to begin making fresh videos again next month, slowly to start with, and maybe build it back up over time.. have a good Sunday sir, and keep safe.. D&Px
Yes looks a heck of a lot better shiny shiny I think it is a real step up in gear aye 😀 Talking of black my hand is 99% now save a blackened thumbnail. But more importantly you are back on the mend Del 😀
What a great video this was. Deceptively simple, yet the finished results were sooooo awesome and (better than) professional looking! The fact that it combined function *and* form as the upgrade change, was the cherry on top. Well done sir!
Beautiful work as always sir. I know you're itching to get back to work but relax and enjoy your time with your bride. We'll be here when you BOTH are ready to come back and share with us.
Thank you so much Jon for those kind words... we are looking forward to getting back to it and should be able to start making some content again next month, just one at a time to start with!
Hi Del and Penny, thanks for the video, and I mean all of them ..I hope you are feeling better day by day,,, through personal experience I know that you will be feeling back to normal after a few weeks and enjoying Life ,Love, and BIKES again..All my best wishes Del and Penny ❤️
Hi Gerry, thank you so much for those helpful words of support, it is difficult to think you'll ever get past the shock of it and of course, the fatigue which is pretty constant, but I guess when I compare where I am now back to day 1, then I'm indeed a lot better... slowly making progress... thank you for thinking of us, take care, D&Px
Wow thank you Ryan, good to hear from you both, and thank you so much for such long term support, it's great to have you aboard, have a lovely week and all the very best from us both D&Px
Absolutely glued to the screen in the machining parts, it's like magic, one teeny tiny thing would of made it perfect, seeing the O-Rings on the shifter grooves haha Fantastic video though.
That's a lovely bit of modification work. As soon as you finished machining it, I thought "That would look great with some O-rings added" :D Powder coat is a stubborn bastard to remove, abrasives (blast cab or persistent sanding) for us home workshop types seems best option. Not surprised it started to chip at the corners as like with spray paint it tends to thin over sharp edges when you flow it in the oven.
Really neat video, and machine work. Very fascinating! I was hoping to see you install on the bike, as I have just bought this Motone shifter for my ‘06 Scrambler and am having trouble fitting it on the spline. The Motone piece is too small, and I couldn’t spread the tines, nor budge it, and it sort of messed up the first little bit of spline on the shifter, so I gave up and put stock shifter back on. Was bummed because I spent $70 usd on Motone part. Very nice work Sir, and really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work, and cheers on your and Penny’s recovery ❤️🩹
Hi Donald, sorry to hear you had problems with that, their parts are usually reasonable quality and never had any problems with the ones I've fitted in the past... do you think it's worth sending it back to them for a replacement, as you did experience that it was seemingly too small to fit, which has resulted in some damage trying to fit it, perhaps they could advise or replace it for you?? Oh and thanks for your kind words of support, recovering slowly and getting back to normal!
@@Moonfleet41 thanks for your reply. Motone does make beautiful products, and the quality is very good! I’ve had other products of theirs, and it’s always been good stuff. Again thank you! Cheers M8!
Good morning kind sir, and thank you yes, im recovering slowly.. this part was specific for a friend and this finish is how she wanted it, very bling and shiny... for myself, if this was for my bike, i would have maybe bead blasted it for a smooth satin finish, other then that, constitutionally i like it how it is.. Take care and have a good Sunday.. D&Pxx
greetings from patagonia you revalue the good work of a TRUE mechanic I also do everything in my power and more; thanks to old guard teachers like you (sorry for my english)

Hi Del thats what I like about you mate a true professional I can see your love of metal. Hope you are resting and recovering mate best wishes to penny
Thanks Dean👍, yes mate, we're taking it easy and going to be getting back to making content next month slowly, just one at a time to get back to the swing of things.. thanks so much for your kind support buddy.
Nice work, hope your recovery is going well and you’re not being silly, stay safe mate and hope to see you back soon, ( but only when fully recovered)👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Pete, no, not being silly, resting and recovering.. we should be back to making content next month, but only as and when we can.. life has to get back to normal at some point, and as long as it's careful and gradual, ill be fine... Thank you for your kind thoughts and words sir... all the best.. D&Pxx
Thank you Brother, one day at a time, we're making progress, good days and bad days.. but always forward..! Take care and have a good week old chap, Love from us both. D&Px

I love your videos and I learn a lot of them! I’m biker for more than 50 years and I discovered them by chance looking for information about the Bonneville T120 that I plan to buy, and I have seen that I will have to change suspensions. The shock absorbers I will put 10 mm. longer than the standard ones. But is there any trick more to avoid rubbing with the footrests in the corners? Thank you, and Compliments!!!
Funny I also must for some reason missed this, very nice work I have a Triumph America 2007, gear shift is same sort of design but Rubber. Does not compare to yours. Nice One!
Still a neat job. Now, which bike maker would likely be the first to offer a power driven screw jack version with Bluetooth memory pre-sets & full colour TFT angle display? - or do we just have wait for the 'Putin GTO' from Ural? : )
Thanks Mark👍 we're fine, im making progress and Penny is taking the best care of me possible, together we're pulling though this and should be back making content next month.
A touch of TLC and Delboy magic producing a bespoke gear changer, real nice work Del. Your friend must be of been over the moon with the result. Hope you are both well and I bet you are chomping at the bit to get back into the garage. 😊
