Two things can both be true in this debate.
1 - Dean has every right to be a little upset with Sam THE DAY AFTER Sam started the apocalypse. It’s not like Dean ditched him or hates him, he raised his voice and said he doesn’t trust him right now.
2 - Sam was heavily manipulated, forced to basically become an addict and was on a blood fueled bender power trip where he wasn’t thinking straight, not all of it is on him.

Exactly. I definitely agree with you. I think Dean and Sam were being played and manipulated by both sides in this conflict, only Sam got manipulated and addicted to the demon blood crucially while Dean was in hell, so he was already on that path well and truly by the time he got back. Also, there's no denying that Ruby took advantage of Sam's want to save innocent people both through extracting demons without killing their hosts, and by using his drive for revenge and the belief that he was saving the world against him. So, there are a lot of factors surrounding why Sam did what he did. Also, addiction is no joke.
That being said. I also understand why Dean feels the way he does, and I think he's also valid in feeling hurt and betrayed by Sam choosing Ruby over him. Both brother's are deserving of feeling the way that they do.

Davion is right about the comparison of themes in the show to what is relatable for us in real life. That’s the whole point of tv shows and movies, doesn’t matter if it’s “supernatural”. The story of Sam’s addiction is supposed to be reflective of addiction issues people have in real life. That’s what’s great about Supernatural, It deals with issues we couldn’t possible experience in real life, but it’s done in a way that allows us to relate said issues to real life problems we experience e.g family, addiction etc

first of all dean didn't choose john over sam. he decided to leave and have a normal life and dean respected it. second, obviously both dean and sam got manipulated by angels and demons. i understand sam's perspective in all of this, he just wanted to kill lilith for obvious reasons and don't get me wrong dean wanted that too. however, for sam it turned into an obsession and ruby manipulated him. what i give dean credit for is the fact that he warned sam multiple times about not trusting ruby and not drinking demon blood. deep down he knows that it's not %100 sam's fault bc they were bot manipulated but i totally understand why he's feeling betrayed and hurt. and he's allowed to feel thay way too as long as he's not fully blaming sam.

Choosing your father over your brother is not the same as choosing a *demon* over your brother??? And Sam never asked Dean to come with him or leave their dad, he chose to leave for college on his own and without *both* of them whereas Dean litterally said he'd do whatever Sam wanted if Sam only agreed to ditch Ruby... I get Sam was manipulated and addicted but Dean is still 100% justified in feeling hurt and betrayed, what the hell?

Sam was an addict and addicts do things out of desperation (plus this is Demon blood, not a common street drug), moreover he was depressed, a state that Ruby took advantage of for MONTHS before Dean got back. I need to be fair when you're on drugs drugs don't make you do stuff but they do make you desperate so everything that you do it is your actions it's just that you know drugs makes you more desperate because you're an addict. So even if it's technically not Sam's fault technically he still did stuff that he did like he knew draining an innocent girl was wrong and as soon as he got angry at the phone call his anger mixed with hunger matched and he did the unthinkable. Didn't even said that they can go to Lilith together without Ruby but he needed a ruby because of the demon blood. I don't think that's because you can really not up to this extent but compare it to real life people who abuse other people who own alcohol or drugs they still do the stuff that they do they just under the influence when you're under drugs it makes to do the things that you wouldn't do but the choices are still yours like you can choose to get better and you can choose to stay being more and more addicted to the drug the more addicted to it you are the more you want to stay on the drug.

He had absolutely no way of knowing that that would do anything other than making him torture other souls. Dean was 100% a victim in his situation. Meanwhile, sam isnt at fault for everything that happened as he couldnt have known that killing Lilith would break the seal and he was being majorly manipulated while dealing with an addiction, but he did have choices. He had a lot, actually. And he knew that he was messing with some bad shit and continued anyway. • @TBFC1985

What we not going to do is say Dean was never there for Sam when even Sam himself has said Dean was always there for him. Just because Dean wasn't checking up on Sam when he was in college, John had finally stepped up and decided to do it himself, doesn't mean Dean wasn't there for him. If I'm not mistaken, Dean didn't even try to convince Sam to stay with him and John instead of going to college because he knew that's what Sam wanted to do. So how is that not Dean being there for Sam? And Dean didn't choose John over Sam. Sam chose to go to college to not only get an education and have a normal life, but to get away from his family. Dean chose to stay behind and continue hunting with John because he accepted that hunting was his life. However, Sam never told Dean to go to college with him and leave John behind, unlike the Ruby situation where Dean told Sam he would follow his lead and go with him to kill Lilith as long as Ruby wasn't involved. Sam fought Dean and chose Ruby. Now you can say that part of that was the demon blood, and yes, his demon blood addiction was portrayed just like any other addiction, but it was still Sam's choice. Also, Dean has a right to feel the way he is feeling. Demon blood or not, manipulation or not, Dean feels betrayed by Sam because as he put it Sam was the one person he could count on the most. On top of that, it's the things Sam was doing behind Dean's back that has caused Dean to lose trust in Sam. It hurt Dean to say that to his little brother cause that's something that he thought he would've never had to say to him. And despite Sam understanding where Dean was coming from, it also hurt him to hear his big brother say that to him.
Anyway, here's some of my thoughts and things I noticed in this episode:
    1. It's ironic that Sam and Dean were saved via plane knowing that Dean has aerophobia, but I'm sure he would rather be on that plane than in that room with Lucifer.
    2. It took me rewatching this episode again to realize that Becky was writing Wincest fanfiction...GROSS!!!! (And no offense to anybody out there who writes Wincest fanfiction or supports Wincest, do you, but that's just not for me).
    3. I'm glad Bobby cleared that up to Sam that the demon was the one talking about cutting him off because Sam really needed to hear that. However, I feel like Sam and Dean should already know that no matter what they do, and they do a lot of stupid sh*t, that Bobby would always keep them around.
    4. Dean finding out he is THE vessel for Michael was the standout moment along with Lucifer getting his vessel. And in my other comment on the last reaction, I pointed out that there was foreshadow when Dean and Zachariah was talking in front of a portrait (in the portrait was Michael killing Lucifer).
Sidenote: I love how y'all went from talking about Sam's demon blood addiction to wrestling (big time wrestling fan here and Triple H is my fave, definitely put him above a lot of the ones y'all named, except for maybe 2 or 3 of them). It's this type of unpredictable content that keeps me around (and my love for Supernatural).

No davion is right tho. Dean has always been protecting Sam and put his life above his own. Since s3 dean has constantly told sam not to trust ruby and that he’s manipulating him but he never listened. Dean told sam not to use his powers and again sam didn’t listen. Like dean sold his soul and went to hell for sam and when sam had the chance to choose he chose demon over his own brother and caused the rise of Satan which will cause a bunch of people to die. And I get sam was manipulated and have demon blood but it’s partly his fault!!! Excuse dean if he wants some space after his own bro chose a demon over him. LIKE WHAT?!

I feel bad for Nathan. He’s in a house full of idiots. All Davion did was just keep dismissing him and spouting bs. You literally can not compare real world afflictions to a supernatural affliction. We literally see that the demon blood is influencing his body and mind to cause him to do this stuff and that is a fact. If you wanted to get into headcanon territory then we could even take a guess and say that Ruby laced her blood to make Sam that way. It would make perfect sense for her too and it would be easy for her too as she also was a witch.
But either way, Sam couldn’t help himself. If Sam never had the demon blood in him, he would have just been far more open to listening to Dean. But from Dean calling him a monster and just pushing him away, it pushed Sam to rely on the manipulation of the demon blood making him depend on it which got him even more hooked.
And notice that Sam chose a demon because Dean kept pushing him away and again Sam wasn’t thinking straight because he was turning into a demon

Sam has never listened to any Dean’s advice and decision, since he was little. and yes, dean always saying stuff he doesn’t mean when he’s upset and ik he’s wrong for that. My point was understanding why dean wants some space after his brother chose a demon over him after CONSTANTLY WARNING AND TELLING him not to do certains things for years bc it will lead to bad things which is exactly what happened. Sam killed Lilith not knowing she was the final seal but Cas let Sam out of the panic room in the first place. It was a group effort not even adding the fact that the angels and demons would have found some other way to start this cause they all wanted it to happen. They even changed Sam's voicemail from Dean to push him to kill Lilith even more.

Nathan was too toxic today. It's ok if you love Sam but you just can't justify every bad action he does.
First of all, Dean didn't choose John over Sam, he chose the type of life he wanted to live as same as Sam did. While Sam decided he wanted to go to college and have a normal and happy life in the future, Dean chose to keep hunting and find the thing that killed his mom so he could make justice for her. John just happened to want the same thing Dean wanted, that's why they stayed together. Although is not like they were a happy little family of two going on hunts and covering each other's backs. Dean was not a kid anymore when Sam left so he started to go hunting alone. He literally spend more time on his own than with his dad in all those years Sam was at college. If Dean would have "chose Sam", he would have had to go to college and live a life he didn't want to live. Would that have been fair? So in order to always stick around Sam he would have had to give up on his own wishes to comply his brother? Hadn't he give up enough for Sam already? He gave up his childhood for his brother as he had to grow up faster and be the father, mother and brother Sam needed as John was not there with them most of the time. He tried to keep Sam out of the hunting life and give Sam as much of a normal childhood as he could even tho it was almost impossible under the circumstances they live on, all that while carrying all the weight of the hunting life on his own. He had to lie to his brother, be tough, steal things so they could survive when they ran out of money risking himself of being caught and beat up for his actions or be thrown to the cops.
He did enough for Sam, he deserved to choose this one thing that would literally define his whole future. He could've stopped Sam from going to school but he didn't. He respected his decision because he understood that was what Sam wanted the most as same as Sam respected Dean's desire to keep hunting. I would say more of that night that Sam left for college but it would be a spoiler so I won't, just know that Dean was not happy at all to be separated from Sam but he accepted it either way because that was what Sam wanted.
Second of all, it's true that the brothers were manipulated in all this mess. While Dean was being manipulated by angels, Sam was being manipulated by demons. We get that. But it all came out out of choices.
Dean chose to stop being slaughtered and start torturing others because he was too broken and tired from all that pain demons inflicted on him. That's how the first seal was broken. Here, he was not exactly being manipulated, he was just in hell being tortured as all the other souls in there were because they sold their souls in the first place. One could say Dean had it coming, it's what he "paid for". He knew what would happen when the hell hounds take him to hell but he did the deal anyway because he just couldn't live without Sam. And although I don't blame Dean for breaking the first seal because it was understandable that he would break eventually after so much torture, it still was his choice. Of course, he didn't know what that choice would cause so he really can't be blamed for anything. I'm sure if he would've known, he would've never said yes to Alastair in the first place.
Sam, on the other hand, let himself be manipulated by Ruby. He knew he had demon blood in him, he knew that that eventually would turn him evil according to what John told Dean, he knew he could get dangerous if he chose that path and that's why Dean's orders were "save him or kill him if you can't", he knew what was he destined to become because Azazel told him about his plans for him, he knew Dean tried everything he could to prevent him from choosing that path, he promised Dean he would never go that way right before he was killed by the hell hounds, he knew the risks but he did it anyway.
Yes, he was heartbroken and vulnerable when Ruby found him, but he still made a promise to Dean. It was literally Dean's death wish for Sam to not give into what Ruby wanted for him, but he didn't care, he was blinded by fury, that's true, but at the end of the day, it was his choice to start drinking demon blood. So since the very beginning, he chose a demon instead of his brother. He chose to listen to Ruby instead of Dean. He broke his promise to Dean because of Ruby. He was being lied, yes, but it still was his choice.
After that, of course, he became an addict pretty quickly because demon blood is inmensely powerful and too hard to resist after trying it, that's why when Dean came back he kept choosing Ruby instead of listening to Dean, Bobby, Cass, Chuck, Anna and Pamela when they told him again and again he was choosing the wrong path. You can still blame him or not for all the wrong things he did when being under the demon blood influence, but the truth is you shouldn't because Sam was not really Sam then. He wasn't in his right mind. That's why he shouldn't really be blamed for breaking the last seal either, because he really thought he was saving the world by killing Lilith. His intentions were always good despite the influence of the demon blood that was meant to turn him evil and dangerous. But is that first time he decided to drink it that's to blame. That was 100% Sam. He knew how dangerous that path was but he chose to walk it either way.
Third of all, Dean has every right to feel hurt. Up until then, Dean always did the best to protect Sam, always stayed by his side (except for those 4 years of Sam in college, which the first two of them, they still kept in contact I might add, and in which John went to check on him every week and most probably told Dean after that Sam was doing okay as I'm sure Dean asked him how Sam was), gave his freaking life for Sam. And all he asked for Sam, was to listen and trust in him. Which Sam didn't. And here I'm not talking about listening to Dean after being under the demon blood influence, I'm talking about before he chose to drink it. And Sam understands that and he's sorry for it. For everything. He knows he hurt and dissapointed Dean and that's why he doesn't fight back when Dean gives him that speech. Dean is not really mad at Sam for breaking the last seal, he's mad because Sam didn't listen. Because Sam didn't choose him first. Because, in his eyes, after everything Dean has done for him, Sam seems to not care. After everything Dean gave up for him, the word of a demon weights more than his to his brother. That's what hurts him. To know that Sam could say "jump with me" and he will do it in a heartbeat but if it's the other way around, Sam would most probably let him jump alone.
So yes, Dean feelings are valid.
Yes, Sam chose a demon before his brother.
No, neither of the brothers are to blame for breaking the seals and releasing Lucifer. No matter what would be said in next episodes, they are not and that's it.

If you don't wanna read all of it, at least go to the final paragraph where I say and I quote "neither of the brothers are to blame for releasing Lucifer, no matter what would be said in next episodes". I'm not blaming Sam for breaking the last seal. I'm blaming him for choosing a demon over his brother when Dean specifically told him not to do it. He knew the risks, he knew what was Dean's death wish and he didn't care, he still chose the dangerous path, he chose Ruby. And even tho that was 100% Sam's choice, I know he was not in his right mind as he was blinded by anger and grief for losing his brother. Anyway, whatever Sam did AFTER drinking demon blood is not to be blamed. He was under the influence of that thing so it was not the real and authentic Sam. I don't know where am I putting Dean in a pedestal here? All I was doing was stating facts. I know Dean made mistakes throught out all his life, he's no saint. I do not blame Sam for releasing Lucifer. That was pure manipulation and addiction. He still made choices that broke down the relationship between Sam and Dean, that opened the door to the manipulation. Dean wasn't perfect and some of his actions led to openings that Ruby used, but Sam made some majorly bad decisions. We saw Sam's process. He wanted to feel like the strong big brother, be independent, judged Dean for his struggles and the idea he could defeat Lillith gave him that. He also wanted to protect Dean. There were good motives and not so good motives. No evil ones. They did mirror it off of real addictions, and both brothers did have a choice. If they had walked away, or devoted themselves to fighting together without supernatural creatures, they could have avoided it. They would have gone through terrible things, but... Sam had a dormant addiction, a predilection for demon blood, from getting it as a baby, like an inherited lean toward alcoholism. He wasn't forced to drink it, and we saw him resist. Then he made a choice to start. He wasn't uncontrollably addicted until then. His choices up till then were influenced by Ruby, but they were entirely his own.
The Dean and Sam college... no, just no. The only way to argue he chose John is he may have discouraged Sam more than he should have, but the idea that he would leave huntingand go just live in California while Sam did school is weird and codependent, even for them. I do think Sam and Dean fought over Sam going, and so Dean felt uncomfortable "bugging" Sam, and Sam not calling just made Dean assume it was true Sam wanted the distance. Sam probably felt like he betrayed Dean and didn't call out of guilt or shame. Misunderstanding, not abandonment by either. Dean would not have been angry because of choosing John though. He wanted the best for Sam. His biggest fear is abandonment though, and the thought of Sam leaving would be extremely traumatic. Unfortunately this fear and reactions to it clearly caused the worst to happen and he lost contact for 4 years.
Dean has every right to feel and express what he did in this episode. As hard as it was for Sam and us to hear, it is one 9f their healthiest communications, because he stated his feelings clearly no passive aggressive comments (at that point) and no yelling. Addiction is not a blank slate for avoiding blame and consequences. It is context for your actions. Dean has every right to take time to process and deal with the hurt Sam caused. There is more to say, but clearly laying out the points might cause me to pull from future relationship points, so will leave it here.

it's more complicated than sam only making his own choices. he was manipulated. constantly. when multiple people are telling you that lillith needs to be killed to stop the apocalypse when that's not the truth, that is manipulation. both sam and dean were operating under the knowledge that in order to stop the seals from breaking and from lucifer from rising, lillith needed to be killed. sam was just doing it the way he thought was the only way to do it. ruby used sam's desire for revenge, coming to him when he was drunk and emotionally vulnerable after dean's death, and his desire to not kill more possessed people to get him strong enough to kill lillith. literal manipulation and emotional abuse. so yeah, sam did make his choices, but they were all influenced by ruby's manipulation. there's also truth to him probably liking the power. which is fine. that's why it's a complicated issue and a way more nuanced and interesting layer to sam than just him deciding he liked power. no -- that's only a small part of it.

Nathan does not understand nuance sometime it’s seems. Still love him, but he got some flaws. Just like all these characters he tries to defend at the expense of his vocal cords.😂❤ Like, you’re telling me the blood of a demon is stronger than an actual demon? i mostly agree with the takes being critical of either of the brothers (specifically sam, even though i’d defend him with my life any other time), but i feel like sam’s downfall being entwined with pride is such an oversight of his entire character. sam is self-loathing. sam HATES himself and he hates what he is, he hates that he has no power to save the people who get involved in his life.
being the one to kill lilith was never an ego trip. dean died, ruby latched onto sam’s lust for revenge the moment that she could, then fed him that demon blood and that does matter. sam was going through psychological torture in that panic room until cas let him out, even though he had to have known the first person sam would try and find was ruby.
sam still had more agency when it came to breaking the seal imo, but neither dean OR him knew lilith was the final seal until it was too late. sam had been more than ready to die since season three and not knowing if he would get out of killing her with his own life was the entire reason he insisted it needed to be him. he’s essentially trying to apologize for what he is, what he’s caused, and the demon blood inside of him.

agreed so much with this. the pride thing is a great insight. but it's also just one part of sam this entire season. mixed in with all of the trauma, it's completely understandable the path sam goes down. i wish people had more empathy for it. i think the thing that bugs me about dean in season 4 and 5 is how much he doesn't understand the demon side of sam and calls him a freak multiple times, which just reenforces sam's self hatred. constantly being told that has got to be horrible. i understand, to an extent, why dean says that stuff, but idk how you can call your brother a monster.

Many addicts do terrible things to their family members while under the influence. But they are STILL responsible for them. Especially if they refused help to end said addiction when offered. Plus, Dean didn’t say he hates Sam or anything. Just he can’t pretend everything is fine immediately after a year of constant lies the culminated in a huge betrayal, RIGHT AFTER he spent decades being tortured after sacrificing his life for his brother. It’s understandably too much.

I know that's not the problem we all know that Dean wanted to kill her. But I think the problem is that Dean himself said that he would go to kill Lilith with Sam if he left Ruby, I think it adds to the fact that he actively chose Ruby because of the demon blood. Cuz like nobody knew that especially the audience until the end that Lily was the sacrifice. Even Ruby herself said that most majority of the choices was his he just needed a little push then he's stronger than Ruby but he actively chose to be by her side I don't blame him for the demon blood because you know he can't help that.

Nathan and Davion's feelings are both valid. Even though Dean is justified to feel the way he does, I was pissed with him too because how was he not understanding that Sam was manipulated? But he got that, which is why he thought he could forgive Sam but then in the back of his mind he remembered Sam chose to believe a demon instead of him. But then to Sam's defense, he was a "junkie" which kind of affected his thinking as well as wanting to do right by saving people and killing Lilith.

    • @brandyjohnson738
      @brandyjohnson738 2 года назад

But to be fair he was manipulated no doubt about it but him himself said that he had choices but he choose to do it the thing about drugs is they don't control your choices yes they expect the way that you think. But if you choose to kill somebody for drugs that your choice. You can't blame anybody maybe the drugs, for your decisions. All you have to also remember that Sam trusted Ruby way before he was even on demon blood. That was season 3 the first time that they met Ruby and it literally Dean said that we shouldn't trust her.

    • @Cat-vr5ss
      @Cat-vr5ss 2 года назад

@@brandyjohnson738 I get you. I know the drugs didn't control him but they did affect him, the more Ruby wanted him to drink the stronger he felt and the more he thought he could help and the more he needed a fix. I'm just saying the demon blood was a big influence but yes he did trust ruby way before

The desire to have enough power to save everyone from Lilith caused him to turn his back on dean and do it his way

I honestly don't think that demon blood is an excuse given that we've seen, in this very episode, someone overpower demonic POSSESSION to protect his family. The demon blood definitely further influenced San, but everything he did was his choice in the end. I don't think you can pin EVERYTHING on him and him alone, but I'd say it's at least half his fault, minimum. The writers portrayed demon blood as being an addictive substance to Sam, in the same way meth is to regular people in real life. So I'll hold him to the same standards. I cant say what he did is entirely his fault, but that doesn't mean he gets a free pass for all his mistakes.

When it comes to WWE wrestlers I got to go old school with Randy Orton or The Undertaker. Can I just say, the reaction to Meg 2.0's return was awesome! This episode tells us the real difference between Angels and Demons. Angels need consent to possess a person, but they will do everything in their power to get what they want including manipulation. Demons just take what they want and they don't care.
The best thing about Sam and Dean is no matter how much they disagree with each other, or how much they fight, they always have each other's back and are always there for each other. So happy you guys made it to season 5! Probably the best season of the series! So much is gonna happen and come out. Great reaction guys! Gonna be a fantastic ride!💜

The reason this show works so well is because we can relate and the issues resonate with us. We can understand the feeling of betrayal and hurt knowing an addict, even though we understand that there is an underlying medical disorder. So Davion is very right but watching Supernatural literally is possible too. So you are all right, you are just absorbing the story differently.

If we're not comparing it to any type of real life drugs then this is what you need to think about.
Sam was given demon blood as an infant. That stuff stays in his system throughout his life. When he started drinking demon blood, it was because someone he THOUGHT he could trust, was telling him it was the only way.
You have to remember, the Sam and Dean dynamic is toxic as is. Dean always protecting Sam so much so that Dean doesn't allow Sam to make decisions. This was the first time Sam felt responsibility to make everything better. Sam wanted to prove to Dean that he could make good decisions for the both of them.
Sam was manipulated by Ruby as well as MANY other Demons which you will meet in later episodes. Although Sam did have the choice, he THOUGHT his choice was the right one.
I mean really, who would've thought that killing Lilith was a bad thing?
Dean has a right to be angry, but it is NOT all on Sam. And you'll find out in later episodes as well, Sam is really not the only one to blame here.

  • @cheesybina3369

The fact that Sam was manipulated doesn’t mean Dean has to be ok with it. Sam was aware of every decision made throughout the whole process; He had a choice.
Also, Sam left. He left Dean and his dad. He left his family. Why should dean be blamed for choosing to stay when he doesn’t even have any interest in school?
I don’t blame Dean for not trusting Sam anymore. Sam left him before, and now, trusted a Demon over him, his family. That’s just fucked. I won’t be able to trust him too. He’s selfish and mind you, his intension were not all good that good. Because I remember, last season he told Dean “why can’t it be me for once”. In fact, I think he just wants to be the hero, when it’s suppose to be a teamwork. 🤦🏾‍♀️

I usually just make my comment and go, but unfortunately, I made the mistake of going through the comment section and honestly, I regret it. I knew the comment section would be more and more toxic as the episodes are posted, but holy hell. Do y'all even watch the show or is it more about making your fave look good while wearing blinders and, in the process, creating false narratives and making excuses upon excuses? Neither Sam or Dean are perfect, and they both have made mistakes (some with damaging consequences). However, let me clear up some things that's constantly said regarding Sam and Dean that I've seen that's not true, and yes everyone has their own interpretation, but opinion should never trump facts:
    1. "Dean always blames everyone for everything, and he thinks he never does anything wrong." This shows me that you don't pay much attention to Dean at all. When did he blame anyone for anything? Where does he say or act like he never does anything wrong? When he found out he put the apocalypse in motion by torturing souls in Hell, did he not feel guilty immediately? Did he not tell Castiel he should have left him in Hell? Did he not feel like he let God and John down? Did he blame Sam, Castiel, or Bobby for what he did? No. Therefore, this isn't a man who thinks he's flawless or blameless. And at the end of this episode, he doesn't blame Sam for starting the apocalypse, he blames him for ego tripping, for being hardheaded, for trusting a demon over him. So again, Dean's not acting like he didn't do anything or that he has no fault in anything.
    2. "Sam and Dean both should get blamed for starting the apocalypse not just Sam." Yes and no. Yes, they both broke the first and last seals. No because there's a difference in their situations. I said this on another reaction video, Dean doesn't get blamed for setting the apocalypse in motion, aside from Zachariah throwing it in his face, because he had no free will and he had no idea about the seals. How was he to know that if he started torturing souls that he would then set the apocalypse in motion? Dean was the victim in this situation, sadly, at times, this fandom loves to victim blame Dean, but acknowledging that he broke the first seal is fine. However, trying to place blame on him for doing so and the things that occurred after makes no sense. Now, Sam he had free will and made his choices. Albeit, he was being manipulated by Ruby, he was battling with a demon blood addiction, and he had good intentions. But the reason he gets most of the blame is because of his ego. He thought he was the savior when he was really the destroyer. He also had Dean, Pamela, and Chuck warning him about his powers and the demon blood. So, Sam is somewhat a victim in his situation just not to the point where he is blameless.
    3. "Sam didn't do any of this on purpose. He's not a bad person." Who said any of this? As I said in the previous paragraph, Sam had a lot of things surrounding his situation, but he does have some accountability in it. He made the choice to follow Ruby and to continue drinking demon blood even though he said himself it made him feel different. Does this make Sam a bad person? No. Does this mean he did what he did on purpose? No. But you can't just say it was the manipulation and addiction.
Anyway, I'm sure there's more ridiculous things this fandom has said, but this is what I've seen thus far. And before anyone wants to come at me with their pitchforks, I love both Sam and Dean and I understand both Sam and Dean's sides of things, but in this case, Sam is looking the least sympathetic between the two.
