The Who meets Led Zeppelin. I had no idea Springfield could wail like this until I started watching every uploaded Zoot video when triggered by seeing a Valentines/Bon Scott video this morning. Just damn, Rick, I love you even more. And the whole band is insane, with Cotton a superb vocalist whose pipes would still stand out today---especially today.
For those who thought Rick Springfield was just some Aussie who moved to LA got on General Hospital and then wrote Jessie's girl here's proof music came first
Wow !!! Thanks for Posting! Thrashed the guts out of this one back in the day. It was the B-side of E. Rigby. Couldn't believe the drum track back then...just as hot today. Rick Brewer I believe.... what a band of all-stars. Big sound and Australia's coolest band in 1970..... so great to hear it again.
stumbled across eleonor rigby, then in my honest opinion the freak is way of its time. never heard of them. it was a solid track then this. definitely a riff masters!
Day in, day out (turn your head) I'll follow you about (turn your head) I'm gonna break you (turn your head) I've got to make you Turn... your... head You turn my head 'round (turn your head) I'm upside down (turn your head) I'm gonna shake you (turn your head) I've got to make you Turn... your... head Turn and turn and turn and turn and turn and turn... I had never heard of this band until today, I went to McDonalds and some old guy liked my Dio sweatshirt. We had a brief conversation, he talked about them and had never heard of the band either until recently from pandora recommendations. He said he really liked punk music, if only I could find him again and tell him they guy who made Jessie's Girl was apart of this. I don't think he would believe me.
Just discovered this band yesterday. Mind blown. Quite ahead of its time, reminds me of Budgie, but this came out the same year as Budgie's first album, so which came first: The Budgie or the egg?
ZOOT were definitely first, as the "Eleanor Rigby/Turn Your Head" 45 was released in Australia/NZ in Dec 1970, but Budgie's first album wasn't even recorded until 1971 (released in June 1971). Also....back then...there's was always a gap between any US or UK original record release dates to when they were finally released in Australia. For example, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" wasn't released until well over 6 months after it hit No.1 on the UK charts....over 6 MONTHS!!! There's a plethora of great singers/songwriters/bands who were successful in Australia who are unknown worldwide...a great pity...come bands like Dragon, have SO many hits that you can't fit them all on one CD.....The Zoot are one of the first heavy bands from the late 60's early 70's...but split soon after this....

Exactly my thoughts. Rick was a riff machine
Wow, Rick should have stuck to this kinda music. He actually rocks! I never knew...
Don't forget - t ..we have a ZOOT page on FB if you have pics of ZOOT come and say hi to Beeb Birtles, Rick Brewer and the gang :)
And he brought the band in a more Hard Rock direction! & a Guitar hero to boot! A little more respect for the guy now right?
My favourite all-time Zoot tune 😊🎸😊✌️👍🎸

He played Zak Adama on Battlestar Galactica; respect.
Jessies girl was not that shubby!!!!
¿Really? I had no clue about this fact, wow!
This song is the reason i started playing guitar, I was nine at the time! It was awesome then and it still is now, Thanks for the effort man.
Came here from Prof of Rock interview with RS. Had NO idea!!! Reminds me a lot of Todd Rundgren’s first band, btw.

Darryl Cotton, Rick Springfield and Beeb Birtles (ex-Little River Band) Great early Aussie talent!
Rick Brewer on drums, ex Ferrets.
@@timblair8932 No, not ex Ferrets. He went to the Ferrets long after Zoot had broken up.
Thanks for your tremendous work in getting THEE ROCK EXCELLENCE to the masses
Thanks Doug!

Well done, killer song. Thanks.
Excellent job on the syncing - no way I would have had the patience! My favorite Zoot tune.

WOW!, This is out of sight, what an amazing performance, i still get turned on watching Rick Springfield!!
Your right... I loved it! I dont know what you did but please do it again (and again) to some of the other great Aussie classics of the period.

Like fusionj7 I flogged this song to death on my little HMV turntable - thought it was better than Eleanor Rigby and still do. Thanks for posting.
Great job, Noel. Not really familiar with the song BUT it's an instant winner with me !
Excellent job on the video! Great Zoot track, too.
Brilliant work Leon. You are a worthy conservator and curator of our sonic archaeology. What program did you use?
Thanks...believe it or not, I only used AVS Video Editor...but it took a LONG time to get it right...cheers !

There wasn't to many drummers drumming like this in 1970 another good song they did was the freak
