Yeah. I have 30 or so pre multilink cars. I sell parts and hoard them a bit. I'm not into the computerized late 80s and 90 stuff but they really went south with the Daimler-Chrysler merger. Total garbage. Chrysler definitely won that deal. It's funny that no one even knows that all the rwd Chryslers are just shitty built e class s class hybrids. At least I'll be able to antique plate some of the good chassis late 90s cars and rip all the horrific anti theft crap out for a cool build soon.

Im a Mercedes guy and you are right. My 450slc drift build got so much of that nonsense. That car is not hand built anymore than any production line car. If you are looking for a rear end gear look for a 1992-95 300se or s320 w140 chassis. The diff will swap and its a 3.69. depending on traction control and ABS differences you might have to make some hybrid axles if you can't use your inner stubs and the W 140 case. The pedals are the same fur w201 (190e) w124 and w140 chassis. You could actually get this r129 chassis with a 5 speed in a 300sl. You gotta remember that thing weighs like 4300 pounds with an all aluminum V8. 2.65 gears are awful too.
As a warranty administrator at a Mercedes dealer as my main job , I have thought a lot of years about doing a manual something swapped r129 . It may happen after how easy this looks to fit lol . These sls are cheaper than like any tuner car to pickup drivable and way better built lol
@@StayTunedTA If I remember the build episode the 2jz bolts to the sl500 factory motor mount brackets , if so it would also bolt to most 4 and 6 cylinder chassis from the early 80's to the mid 90's. BTW A stock dohc 6 cylinder m104 can make incredible power stock with a turbo stand alone ecu, or 1,000 + with rods and pistons .
@@chrishayes5755 the Cosworth has the dog leg Getrag close ratio trans like the e30 m3 , most MB transmissions are utility type trans and kind of weak. I like MB be cause they're cheaper than most rwd project cars available in America and they are Lego cars , meaning brake upgrades just bolt on from the bigger chassis.

As a Mercedes Enthusiast (That loves Modifying them!) and runner of Mercedes focused RUclips Channel, with now 6 of these things and two with 6 speed Manual Swapped Benz V8's among a lot of other crazy mods... I just wanted to say thank you for putting this build together and highlighting it with these Videos. The aftermarket support for these platforms is few and far between compared to almost everything else, yet they are such good platforms to modify and many times super cost effective if you know what you are doing. Long time fan of your channel and love all builds, but with Benzes having a special place, seeing this was so cool! Cheers!

Try a slipper valve that would help it slip a good bit if needed...it was definitely missing when you first started driving it something don't sound right for sure
ive got a 126 chassis 280SEL and that M110 straight six needs to get out and in the dumpster ,i had plans for a LS swap but damm that 2J with manual looks like the way to go
Same clutch setup I have on my E36, like Tony said it is literally an on/off switch and very hard to slip the clutch at all. Man does hold uok to any abuse you throw at it though

This car has more adapters than my red, ford small block, tremec tkx, triangulated 4 link I built myself to a spooled 34 spline 4.11 ford 8.8 swapped 94 Ford probe drift car. It also has a s197 front subframe with everything drift domestic sells bolted to it as well as some suuuuper trick and perfectly valved 10 year old top shelf KW coilovers all the way around. Yup. You read right. The thing FUX too. It's a dart 347 block, has an eagle 347 forged stroker crank, 4.10 h beam forged eagle rods, wiesco forged Piston, all crower valve gear built summit cnc ported heads, crower cam, Holley port injection manifold with a terminator x, MSD billet distributor (coil on plug conversion coming soon). It's a 14.5:1 engine, runs on c12 with 10% nitro. It's extremely high strung but it works unbelievably well. I welded some s197 mini tubs in, so the 18×12 3 piece deep dish johnnies I have wrapped in 315s out back, 295s up front can fit without rubbing. The thing sits maybe 3 inches off the ground, doesn't scrape, doesn't rub, and my local track isnt Sonoma raceway. It's top gun raceway in Fallon, Nevada. Build a Ford probe like I did. I left a bunch of stuff out obviously like the subframe connectors that tie into the cage I built myself, the strut tower braces that tie in as well bringing the structure together. A lot of people just make shit super strong without understanding geometry, harmonics, opposing forces, and how a car is designed to work in the first place. My Ackerman is perfect, the car drives straight, it settles into a slide immediately and is more predictable than any solid axle car I've ever drifted. Oh, did I mention it weighs 2600 lbs with me in it and makes 655 wheel horsepower?? Right on the edge of what my little tremec tkx can handle. It weighs all of 45 lbs and it's tiny so, it's incredible it handles what it does. The car is wicked man. I wish y'all could see it. I just don't wanna film it and have the authorities remember it from all the....from all the fun we've had together then come and take me somewhere I don't wanna be. Allegedly. I have twin boys and a hot, super rad wife I can't risk that. She snowboards, plays guitar and drives my 66 mustang with a badass cammed out 351w and t5 daily instead of the 2019 is300 I bought her. She doesn't mind the fact I lost the 6 pack, ravages me twice a day, and is the best mom I've ever seen.
Haven’t read all the comments but the flashy box thing is probably a gps tracker that sub prime dealers and lenders use to keep track of the car in case you skip your payments and they have to come get it. Opened up my T/A dash last year and found one hiding in there and had to look that up lol
man thats a pretty long rear end for a cd009, shoulda done a bmw zf swap but I get it, the dude already had the adapted cd009 ready to go. pretty funny cause my buddy did a jz swap with a bmw trans he had lying around and the gears were so short that 5th gear did burnouts, cuz 5th gear is literally 1:1 and stock he was on 4.3 silvia gears
It looks like you've got 1/8" preload on your release bearing rather than 1/8" gap. The clutch fingers are 3" from the mounting face, so the release bearing would need to be 3 1/8" away, but you measured 2 7/8"

But never did I loved driving that car it was a 1973, 220 gas but still a great car. I did all my own work on it. I wish I had done that. The car sounds like it has a dead miss on 1-2 cylinders, which would explain the lack of power.

I've had 2 my old 300e wagon with a 5 speed and now my 1999 c280 with a 6 speed , yes I'm in the U.S.
