You have made the lives of every automotive enthusiast who dreams for this job, a hell of a lot easier. Everything anyone needs to know to get a job as an automotive journalist is covered here. Thank you PowerDrift.
You're welcome Cyril! We are happy we could help you!
This is the highest Shumi has ever talked about cars I guess
You’re probably right. But no wait. That would have been after i drove thr Porsche 911 GT2RS. 😂
@@shu_mar schumi in car 😍 finally ..
Like kartikeya singhee
Why powerdrift, why so late ? Since my undergraduate engineering I have been reading a lot about bikes (magazine, posts, articles, reviews) and finally you have come up with this
Had to make other videos also man 🤣
Don’t have to be first! I’m *in* the video! 🤣🤣🤣
Very well explained....🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Wanna tell you that these podcasts are gold..! #respect 😊🙏
Shumi bhai, bahot hi accha laga aapka Podcast. Main ek calibration engineer hoon, aur mera kaam aap logon ki tarah hi hai. Gaadiyon ka parikshan karna, aur unko behtar banana
Mere dimaag mein kuch ideas hain jo main applogon ke saath share karna chahta hoon. Mera vichaar innovation ko lekar hai. Thoda data driven jisse reviews aur behtar ho sakte hain. Sabse badhiya tareeka kya rahega aaplog se is baare mein aur baat karne ka ? Kya aap log is baare mein mujhse baat karna chahenge ?
"If you are not bringing Knowledge, bring the ability to learn", I think I just found out the secret of winning at life. That was a really mature talk! It was long but worth!!! Thank you!
Thank you Rahul for giving us all that time!
@@shu_mar The quote was great Sir!
That's only way to excel at your job / what u do. Doesn't matter how much old are you.👍✌️
This is what a student who's aspiring for any profession needs to hear. The nitty gritties of the job, and not just a "be an X, fir toh aish hi hai".
Each profession demands something niche and specific from an individual, and so many people could do good with such knowledge being available to them which would help them choose the right path and not be stuck at jobs they hate.
Well done, PD, and as always, Schumi is so eloquent and fluid about what he wants to say!
Thank you so much!
A great podcast, just forgot how 39 minutes passed but really felt the transparency. Thank you sir for this.
Thank you Parth!
Shumi you didn't even kept us disengaged for 2 seconds in the whole 39:07 minutes !! You got some serious magics dude
Thank you Maruthi!
Vital 40 min for automotive enthusiastic...
My learning:
1. Love and respect every motorcycle/cars... no matter the capacity
2. how to get into automobile journalism
3. Do what you love....live for passion
4. Its looks easy but its not.
5. The hard work behind 10 min reviews videos.
6. Articulation is the key factor. Express what you feel.
And for so long I was wondering, why Shumi has Dark circles....
I got my answer today...
Thank you shumi for sharing your extensive experience with us. Kudos to Shumi, Rohan and team PD.

Here's me:
1. a 24 year old
2. looking to escape the corporate world
3. thinking this job is great
4. definitely wondering how so much travelling could ever get exhausting
Also, are you guys hiring? xD
When I saw the time of this I was pretty sure that I have to skip few minutes but that didn't happen at all. 39 minutes in one go that does reflect how concise this podcast is
Considering the topic which is vast yet fabulous work to focus on important sections and questions.
I'd say would be good if pointers are added on the screen of the question or like a summary.
If possible it would be helpful if you make a video about a day in automotive journalist's life.
Thank you for the feedback! Will incorporate! Thanks for watching!
Aptly said
exactly.
Just completed my 12th ( 88% ) & I'll be pursuing BJMC ( journalism & mass comm) this video helped me find a new perspective . Hope to be in this field someday ❤️❤️

I feel Shumi has got MS's voice and brains..
You mean I’m retired now🤓
@shumar We mean you are in our hearts now.!

Thanks. Have always been intrigued by such a career but had no clue about what it took behind the scenes. Thanks to you, this is the first time I've managed to glean some insights into this. Love the educational angle to your channel as well in general ! Wishing all of you ever growing success !
Finally this topic❤️
Sorry for the delay!
I hope things were this clear when we were in 20's.. i wish something like this was available to give us some perspective.
@shumar you are doing a great job. I hope more & more people get motivated & join this blissful world where happiness is more important than money
Thank you Sandeep! I hope your hope comes true!
Loved it! Simply.. just loved it! No words! And yes.. thank you so much for showing how real passion and enthusiasm looks like! ❤️
Straight out of heart! So well spoken. I’m 22 and I’ve dreamt of being an automotive journalist since childhood, but I’d wait for the day I know I’m mature enough to believe I can spend my life with its shortcomings and not just for adolescence in me.
Last night I was thinking y no podcast from some while, today a podcast landed and it implies powerdrift knows pdarmy pulse.
Very informative podcast
thanks for watching! Do share with friends if you found it useful!
That's why I love power drift. Bang on the topic right from the 1st minute, unlike most of the channels who will just talk crab for 8 minutes in a 9 minutes video.
Thank you Hemant! 😊
It's been 20+ years of reading and watching stuff about automobiles. From buying auto magazine from my pocket money during school days (just to see beautiful bike & car pictures) to reading articles on websites during job and now in RUclips Era, this is among one of the best video I have watched. Good Informative Work Shumi ....
Thank you Dinesh!
Shumi this has to be one of the most detailed, honest and precise advice one can deliver over the format you have. It truly paints the true picture. Automobiles, are fantasies and when’s jobs are associated with it (journalists, testers etc) we tend to admire them with only a singular view, not looking at the entire picture. Appreciate the way you have done this. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Sujai!
Something that many have been longing for 👍
Cheers to Powerdrift 👏
Thank you so much!
Finally for those who are passionate about automotive.❤️
Indeed. Thank you Eshan!
Awesome 😎 When the I just saw the title of the video just sat down for 39+ mins and completely related my current job HR professional with my passion with automotive, may be I may not be a right guy to review or judge the motorcycle, but I truly love to ride them doesn't mind of level of motorcycle, it was similar like my job hiring a 2Lpa guy or 12 Lpa guy... What ever it is I love what I do with my job and passion 🙂. Love to see more from PD, THANK YOU
What a wonderful video. Very informative. Huge respect to the entire Powerdrift team for making this. You guys just answered the questions that I always had for years. I feel there is huge change in the way we view automotive journalism now. Just think about it, I got know the automobile world by reading the good old “Auto India and Car&Bike International” in the late 90’s. The same passion that was visible in those pages during that time is still much required in today’s day and age to keep the viewers engrossed, whether in the videos or the magazines. Again wonderful effort.. Keep on bringing such videos every once in a while...
A thorough insider's view in Automotive journalism. Great work.
Thank you Dheeraj! 🙏🏽😊
I agree with equal respect theory for the vehicles cause when they are flagship spoiled that is used big bikes and costly cars the review isn't a review anymore, it is more like a "relative" review as they start comparing it with the better stuff which is high priced and forgets about the value it offers. I enjoy a 125cc glamour and a 150cc engineered for performance R15 so very much XD
Exactly!
Very true
Awesome to hear this! I've always had a strong affinity for automotive journalism, perhaps for the last 5-6 years since my college days, and finally seem to have mustered enough courage to take this profession up as my full-fledged career. Thanks Schumi for this wonderful podcast!
The very best of luck Mandeep! Don’t lose your passion - stay in the chase!
No Trash. No Filter.
On Point. Filled with Quality. The best!
Even if someone doesn’t have interest in automobiles, should watch this for the ‘right attitude’
Thank you Sir!
Waiting for holy shift season 2
such an important podcast.....let me share it everywhere
Oh wow! Thank you Ali!
The passion with which Shumi speaks just shows how much he loves what he's doing! So nice to see someone love their trade this much! ♥️
Thank you Solomon! I’m blessed!
What I've researched in last 2-3yrs, Shumi wrapped up in 39 odd mins.
This is what we expect from PD... clarifying each and everything...the positives and negatives put up right.
Thank you Aniket!
Damn @PowerDrift , it was worth spending 39.07 second thanks for sharing this prodcast
Welcome Chetan! Glad it clarified things for you! Do share ahead please
Honestly Speaking Shumi is one of the few Automotive Journalist in the Country whose reviews I really take very seriously with Trust. I have been following shumi since my school days from the year 2000's. Thanks for the Passion.
Thank you The Boss ji!
@@shu_mar Your Welcome Sir.. Keep going
Thank you for such an awesome and a detailed descriptive video. It definitely gave a visualisation of the 20 year’s of experience and a positive perspective on automotive journalism. Hats off Shumi and PowerDrift 👍🏼👍🏼
Long time back i had popped this question of how to get into automotive journalism in the comments section of one of the automobile review portals. But RUclips wasn't that interactive then, and my question was never addressed to..This podcast covers all the details in detail..loved the sincerity on the topic
Thank you Ajinkya! I’m happy I’ve answered all of your questions! If you have more... DM! Would you share this with your friends? It would really help us!

I just love listening to Shumi, he always has a mature point of view and discussion on bikes and motoring in general, his years of experience reflects in his speech. I was always a fan of PowerDrift, but, having Shumi onboard is even better, we love you content Shumi and Powerdrift we have always loved you. Bring on more content!!! Cheers
A week back, I happened to ride 7-year-old active for 100 km and was wondering, how great it would have been to tell my experience to the world. This has always happened irrespective of the bikes I have ridden. I guess this video is made me realize something. For the past 5 years, reading about bikes, watching hours and hours videos on bikes, travel vlogs, reviews might help me at something.
The content, topics covered, the story told, story flow, everything was on point ! Thank you for this.
After i see your reviews, i want to be you.

It hardly makes any sense to not subscribe to PowerDrift when they take the effort to take introspection too such a level. This podcast just came as a reality check! Fantastic as always. Looking forward to more such initiatives. Kudos PD!

Thanks a ton ... million ... trillion ... and on and on for this informative video ... Shumi, this was one of the most important question that I would have asked you when I planned to meet you ... Shumi... You are undoubtedly one of the best Automotive Journalist I have seen. Period
Soo true
The video was long as shown by the RUclips but it didn't feel like so. It kept me glued to the screen till the end. Amazing podcast, absolutely loved it.
It has always been said and has always been proved by PD that there is something for everyone at PD. Thank you PD and Shumi Sir for taking in and responding to the feedback and queries of PDArmy and I believe that's why people love PowerDrift more than any other automotive channel!
I am an aspiring Photographer and I have great interest in films too and I would love to love to see a podcast on automotive filmmaking. PD has the best visual artists and I believe a podcast would be really really helpful to all the budding filmmakers who wishes to join PD as an editor/cinematographer/screenplay writer etc.
This was extremely helpful! I was looking for focused advise like this since forever but never really got good straight answers. Thanks a lot for giving folks like us who dream of getting into the Automotive journalism a good direction towards pursuing this career path.

This is a really informative video. Letting us know the back end of all those amazing reviews. Thank you!
Shumi, believe me, I can listen to you the whole day after watching the first video on purchasing a new big bike. Now I am liking podcasts and this one is the second one. Thank you for sharing the experience with us.
Finally I watched this video doing dishes :)...Awesome information... Congratulations Shumi for completing 2 decades in the field and I am very thankful that you are sharing your wisdom with all of us. I resonate with the fact that people tend to shy away in sharing when they like something and are at forefront when they dislike something... Great insights 🙏
Thank you so much! Glad we made your chores more interesting!
WOW Shumi what an explanation. This will definitely give everyone a clear idea of how things actually work in Automobile Journalism. And that its not only about driving or riding high end cars and bikes or getting to travel places. After watching this many will start understanding their real level of passion for automobiles. Too Good.
The eye opener. shumi you have explained it very well ❤️. It's like one of those lectures where you understand everything taught by the teacher .
Shumi, thoroughly enjoyed and grasped the way you laid down your working experience. We all have the one thing about Automotive Journalist (they get to ride everything), thank you for clearing the air.
Thank you Kunal! Glad it hits the spot!
Shumi da , I had DM'ed on Powerdrift tweet handle about 2 years ago and If I am being genuinely honest to you here, I felt like " You were talking to me, answering my questions " . I am sure many others would concur with me and feel the same as well. Clear and concise. No questions at all from me, thanks for this podcast. " Huge Respect " 👍👍.
Hey Shumi and PD, great video. Thanks for this and giving us answered to questions we didn't know we had. Appreciate you time, honesty and transparency.
Thank you Anoop!
Thanks for this mature conversation in general. Don't belong to this industry, but being in a band, i can very well relate to the flying part of it. People always see the bling, but the BTS of it all is so very hectic it's not even bearable at times. And also Yes, to wake up and go do what I always wanted to do all my life is the best feeling in the whole world.
🤘🏼🔥
It is always a joy to hear you speak. This time even my dad had to stop & he sat next to me and listen to this whole postcard. Very Informative 👍
Oh wow! Thanks Anand! Makes my day!
Thank you this was a good one.. Its a really tough job... Man wish the money was also tht good as the excitement and satisfaction you get doing the job..Not being able to buy ur own Ducati bike without getting a loan is sad.. But the journey behind paying out the loan again doing the same exciting job wel i think it balances out.. Everything.. Cheers Ride safe, drive safe and stay safe 🙏

This video is filled with wisdom and knowledge. Thanks Shumi!
Absolutely brilliant Shumi. You probably form the epitome of articulation in automative journalism in our country.
And ofcourse - have given me plenty to think about!
I loved it, totally loved. This is really an informative and inspiring video.
@Shumar and @powerdrift
thank you so much for the information. You are the true motorheads & your content is soulful.
Thank you so much! Glad it hits the spot!
So happy that I watched a single video back in 2015 which Overdrive had posted. It was Shumi reviewing D390 and it was amazing. The bike is still ridden and in immaculate condition. Shumi was on point and it helped my nail down the 390. So, thanks Shumi.
This was so so so good. Thank you for such amazing content.
If shumi is not automotive journalist , then he could be the great profesor 😂. He explains everything so deeply and passionately 🙏🏼. Great work man.🎉
One of the most matured journalists out there... great job pd. One question was always in my mind was the basic pay a person can earn when they come to the field of automobile journalism..
Thank you Rahul. Starting salaries are usually around the 15-20k/month. Max. Can be lower also.
Hi Shumi. That's a very clear and crisp explanation which I needed and many more out. Money is the only thing which makes unsatisfied more N more. Passion is the only factor for happines when executed properly. As an IT employee by fait I can clearly visualise the difference between 'Earn to Live' and 'Live to Earn'.
All the stress buster for me is the Automotives. Though I never bothered about high range vehicles and I have been limited to those in my budget (common man budget). Something which runs when I accelerate keeps my excitement running.
Not but the least things for helping me to be clear on the automotive career. Looking forward to be with it.
An young and energetic but confused sole. 😀
@shu_mar and @powerdrift : Thank you so much for your time and effort in creating this wonderful video about "Automotive Journalism". This is the most mature, realistic and content rich video I have come across in recent times. This video will surely provide more insights and clarity in the minds of youngsters who are at the beginning of choosing their careers and provide even more clarity towards people who are in their 30s and above looking for a career change hoping that doing so will solve their existing problems and challenges in their lives. This video will remind us all that the grass is always greener on the other side. Thank you once again and keep doing what you do best. - Just a random guy following Shumi and Powerdrift.
Hey Subhabrata, this was really helpful in terms of decision making and understanding how things work. Answering to all my questions even before I could have thought off. This video brings me more close to my passion and excites me to be myself and do things which I love to.
You win hearts by the way you elaborate. Missing content from PD is never a chance and when Shumi is the host, things go much informative and interesting.
Thank you Ashwin!
Loved this video and thanks for giving the real picture and not the glamorous stories which we see in the testing videos.👍
Great video Even if this video doesn't do well, I won't be surprised. Good content seldom gets credit. Always been a Fan of PowerDrift. One fine content on Automotive Journalism. So welcome! I’m glad it helps! Would you share this with your friends? It would really help us!
Was not sure about automative journalism, but was always curious how things work at your end. Thanks shumi sir 🙂🙏
This was an incredibly informative video. I've always wondered how to get into Automotive Journalism, and this helped me understand the basics of how the industry works.
