How to Use a MicroSD Card in a Normal SD Card Slot on a Laptop or Tablet

MicroSD cards are commonly used in things such as smartphones, dash cams and basically any small device. These, however, will not fit into the normal SD card slot on your laptop or tablet PC. To get around this problem all you have to do is buy a simple microSD card adapter which allows you to insert it into any normal-sized SD card slot.

The word Adaptor comes from the word "adapt". Adapt means to make changes to something so it works. In this case it's called an adapter because it changes the micro SD card into something bigger so it fits into your computer. We also use the word adaptor for types of plug because they "adapt" (change) whatever you're plugging in so that they can connect and work. So "adaptor" literally just means something extra you add on to make something work.

If you don't have a MicroSD adaptor handy right now, an interim solution is to place the MicroSD (from a dashboard camera, for instance) into your phone than connect your phone to your computer.

Bimmer Boy Sorry no. Can't agree with you there. If you are a beginner and tech dumb, this was perfect for us. We need everything spelled out for us. I bought an sd card for my tablet that had the adaptor with it. I didn't know what it was for. I thought it was a card you could put in the laptop to put information on. Looked it up and found Bryan who showed me exactly how to use it.
I was able to buy the SD card and the adaptor in one package at my local Woolworths supermarket in the stationery section fairly cheapy. Definitely not as cheap as online from Ebay but at least I didn't have to wait for it.

if you have an android phone (idk about apple) just put the sd card in the phone and plug the phones charging cable into the laptop, allow the laptop to access files from the phone and now you can just take and put stuff in the sd card
