  • If you watch tennis lessons you will have heard "follow through/ finish over your shoulder". While that is applicable on some forehands, it's not applicable ON ALL forehands.
Your finish depends on your grip, the incoming ball and what you're trying to do with the ball.
Watch this video to learn when to finish
    - over your shoulder
    - your biceps
    - your hip
    - and inverted (think Rafa Nadal forehand!)
Tennis is situational and you have to adapt on every shot!
Difference between flat and topspin grip: • What is the difference...

That is the first time I have heard someone explain the different follow throughs that makes so much sense, thank you I will definitely try to put this into practise.

Sorry that I'm only getting to you now. Please let me know how your practice went. Tennis is situational and no two balls are the same so you gotta be able to respond.

    Notes:
1:43 Typical rally ball - Regular finish over shoulder/biceps
2:48 Extreme topspin or late contact - Buggy whip "Nadal" finish
3:25 Pulled out wide, want to dip the ball at an angle - Pocket to pocket "little rainbow" finish (Gael Monfils?)
4:18 Approach shot, less room to hit long, lift ball quickly and dip it quickly - Pocket to pocket rainbow
    Thank you Meike! ❤

Great tip Meike, nobody tell us before that the follow through depends in what you are trying to do with the ball, and how the ball is coming to us, depth, speed, spin and pace. Thank you very much. I am an old men but I still play tennis and i think that is never too late to learn. Congratilations.

Bin echt gespannt. Für die Zukunft alles Gute!

@@MeikeBabelTennis One thing that I noticed a few weeks ago: sometimes I need to catch high balls, then I usually (have to) finish a top-spin hit over my head. I might be wrong, but the ball seems to go slower, not sure about the RPM. I need to try this Nadal finish in the court and see how it goes - especially because I am also a lefty playing on clay with an Aero :)

Hello Mike, great video as always! I have a question for you. Would love to get your answer here or maybe a video about it in the future. On the forehand, I see Patrick Mouratoglou talk about using the wrist to create rackethead speed (he also talks about it on the serve). I see other coaches talk about not getting the wrist involved because they say it can lead to wrist injury. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @Shenrytube

Sorry Meike for misspelling your name in my previous message…

    • @MeikeBabelTennis
      @MeikeBabelTennis  2 года назад

I actually disagree with him on that one. The wrist is the very last thing in the kinetic chain and if you have a loose arm it will naturally come through. Maybe the geniuses he coaches can do it but I have only bad experiences with it.
