I appreciate the swampy blues in the music overlay. After watching your wood charring videos, I have been using it to preserve wood outdoors. Turns out fire is cheaper than stain.

They used this method of roofing in Sweden in the old days, with the
addition of making a groovè close to edge and the length of the board .these boards were the underlying ones, this caught any water that would creep under the overlying board and drain it down to the end of the roof.

This is genius, hes making a second RUclips channel and a second revenue source with the same content. Different delivery method but same. My self reliance is more rugged and artful with the mostly no talking. This is very informative and educational but the same projects. And not only are you getting paid but it's your cabin your property. You're getting paid to live your dream and build your homestead. Absolutely BRILLIANT. KUDOS.

I absolutely love your videos and your family. You two love birds have weathered many events that would have broken up many marriages. Shows you both made the right decision to become a united couple. I love the music you have for your videos. Being a country raised girl I greatly appreciate the clean clear sound of the music....no synthesized instruments....pure country. Keep up doing what you are doing . You and your family are always included in my prayers as family. Have you considered putting out each years episodes as a DVD for each season? I would love for mg sister and several of my friends to be able to watch the progression both MY SELF RELIANCE AND SHAWN JAMES. WAS JUST A THOUGHT. I have trouble catching which episodes I have seen and which I haven't. I could watch these over and over. I learn something different everytime I do watch one previously viewed. You and your lovely bride , please know how much your work is appreciated. In every very successful marriage I have been blessed to witness the husband is still calling his beautiful wife his bride even after 50 years. God continue to bless you and your marriage.

Just a bit puzzled why there are no vertical runners below the horizontal ones holding the waterproofing in place. Seems to me if water gets under the planks it will be trapped between the horizontal runners, plus there is no ventilation between the waterproofing and the outer planks

Your wife's suggestion is amazing. Great knowledge to have when you are building any kind of structure outside. Now I see why you charred your root cellar boards. I did not realize it was even fireproof after you burned the wood. Great information to have. Excellent workmanship Shawn. You are always a book of knowledge. Love to hear more of your wife's ideas and crats /skills she does. Maybe she could do a video on some skill or crafts she finds handy in an off grid homestead setting. You are definitely an excellent team. :) Love all your videos.
