I appreciate the swampy blues in the music overlay. After watching your wood charring videos, I have been using it to preserve wood outdoors. Turns out fire is cheaper than stain.
I forgot how you built this roof. Now re-watching this years later that roof is SoOoOo solid its not ever going anywhere!! It is like 5 inches thick of just solid wood! Awesome looking back going through these videos like this thank you for you content!
Hi Shawn James! Good morning! Another great video about your work long time ago! Nothing was easy but you believe in your work! It's a great lesson for all! A kiss for Cali 🐕😊❤ and take care, Shawn James! Nice weekend for you! 🇧🇷
I've been re-visiting for the past few days. Found a few I'd missed so that was a treat. So nice seeing all these videos again. I've learned so much, I could build a town... I think 🤔. Awesome journey. Thanks for all the wonderful memories, Shawn.
Shawn James and My Self Reliance are the most interesting, most entertaining, most professionally filmed and just most enjoyable channels watch! Thank you so much Shawn for all you do and for inspiring all who watch! God bless you sir!
They used this method of roofing in Sweden in the old days, with the addition of making a groovè close to edge and the length of the board .these boards were the underlying ones, this caught any water that would creep under the overlying board and drain it down to the end of the roof.
Absolutely awesome! I'm amazed at everything Shawn comes up with, his natural abilities of creativity and practicality. Nothing seem to escape him. These video's are looked forward to above and beyond others watched. Keep up the amazing work, Shawn!
I can feel a great renovated energy on your work I’m learning a lot from you big thank you much The Japanese technique is what I would love to use on my cabin TY
Watching this from Hungary with great interest. Educational and thought-provoking with very nice cinematography. What you're doing and how you're doing it is the real deal. So much more meaningful than a pointless office job. Makes one wonder.
It’s really hard work but harvesting your own wood and building something is so gratifying! Burning the wood is Fantastic! We used that to make a canoe from one tree. Just remembered to angle the back of canoe so you don’t flip as easily.
This is genius, hes making a second RUclips channel and a second revenue source with the same content. Different delivery method but same. My self reliance is more rugged and artful with the mostly no talking. This is very informative and educational but the same projects. And not only are you getting paid but it's your cabin your property. You're getting paid to live your dream and build your homestead. Absolutely BRILLIANT. KUDOS.
I absolutely love your videos and your family. You two love birds have weathered many events that would have broken up many marriages. Shows you both made the right decision to become a united couple. I love the music you have for your videos. Being a country raised girl I greatly appreciate the clean clear sound of the music....no synthesized instruments....pure country. Keep up doing what you are doing . You and your family are always included in my prayers as family. Have you considered putting out each years episodes as a DVD for each season? I would love for mg sister and several of my friends to be able to watch the progression both MY SELF RELIANCE AND SHAWN JAMES. WAS JUST A THOUGHT. I have trouble catching which episodes I have seen and which I haven't. I could watch these over and over. I learn something different everytime I do watch one previously viewed. You and your lovely bride , please know how much your work is appreciated. In every very successful marriage I have been blessed to witness the husband is still calling his beautiful wife his bride even after 50 years. God continue to bless you and your marriage.
I dnt know anything about construction but im amaze!!woww!!bless those hands n mind.i enjoy so much watching you,how much uve acomplishes in bout 3 years😃🙌👌💖🙏
did you seal the burnt roof boards with glue or anything? or just nail a strip board over each seam? wouldn’t think water would seep under and go through the cracks. looking into doing this myself. thanks
hi Shawn .. can you tell me .. this is whose land..do you buy or rent it. how do you bring in all the heavy and bulky equipment .. is there a way to connect with this place. Im from malaysia..im very broken english.. i hope u understand what i ask.. hahahahahahah.. sorry yep....
Just a bit puzzled why there are no vertical runners below the horizontal ones holding the waterproofing in place. Seems to me if water gets under the planks it will be trapped between the horizontal runners, plus there is no ventilation between the waterproofing and the outer planks
Your wife's suggestion is amazing. Great knowledge to have when you are building any kind of structure outside. Now I see why you charred your root cellar boards. I did not realize it was even fireproof after you burned the wood. Great information to have. Excellent workmanship Shawn. You are always a book of knowledge. Love to hear more of your wife's ideas and crats /skills she does. Maybe she could do a video on some skill or crafts she finds handy in an off grid homestead setting. You are definitely an excellent team. :) Love all your videos.
Thank you! I shared with my sons and neighbors who have sons! Have a great weekend ! Enjoy your family and all that “Our Lord “ has blessed us with ! God Bless!
Excited to see what you “have up your sleeve” regarding the foundation you laid for workshop which has now been moved to new location. Probably the next Big Reveal, lol. 😜🙏🏻 👍 Love ANY vid you post. 😍
What keeps the insects from getting to the back side of the charred outer layer? I assume there are openings from them to get in between the two layers,
Where's Self Reliance video on Saturday...? Shawn James are excellent. However I like to see you work on your project, which you do on Self Reliance. Did I miss something?
I appreciate the swampy blues in the music overlay. After watching your wood charring videos, I have been using it to preserve wood outdoors. Turns out fire is cheaper than stain.
This was one of my favorite video. The music can be played endlessly for years and I'd still never get tired of working. Thanks Shawn👍👍
Us longtime viewers take your great video-making and editing skills for granted. This one, especially the closing was great.
This was so interesting and a little anxiety inducing. Your wife is a smart cookie investigating this Asian technique for preserving wood.💖
Really enjoying the flashback videos....makes me want to re-watch the whole series
I forgot how you built this roof. Now re-watching this years later that roof is SoOoOo solid its not ever going anywhere!! It is like 5 inches thick of just solid wood! Awesome looking back going through these videos like this thank you for you content!
I like your style, shawn, thank you (Theo Jong from Holland)

Once again, awesome music. I love the cabin!

I think that's the method I will use for my shed, the roof collapsed and I don't have the money to restore it "properly". Thanks for the idea.
Wow! Your workshop is looking good!
Happy Thanksgiving Shawn, Mrs., Cali, and your family!
👍🏠

Well done 🤍
Interesting concept
That's a pretty good idea 👏👏👏💖💞
Looks Awesome!!
Was that Linseed oil or another oil you used on the sugi ban planks? Cheers!
I would please for subtitles your music. Its amasing
did you seal the burnt roof boards with glue or anything? or just nail a strip board over each seam? wouldn’t think water would seep under and go through the cracks. looking into doing this myself. thanks
You mention treating your planks with oil after burn and scrape. Would that oil be linseed by any chance?
Thanks for this video :-) 👍👍

Muy buen material amigo... gracias
Do you have any safety tips? How did you manage to do all this while avoiding major injury?

Vc é um homem sábio🇧🇷🇧🇷
私は日本人女性です。いつもとても楽しみに見ています。有難う。
「Yakisugi」は日本語で「焼杉」と書きます。:)
Does this mean we won’t get a current video for a while?
Maybe he is on honeymoon with his wife
