  • A champion of rural health care, an innovation leader and an inspiring mentor, Dr. Rose Anne Goodine has served New Brunswick's medical community with dedication and distinction for over three decades. And she's done it all while maintaining a thriving practise that has helped countless patients and their families.
Dr. Goodine obtained her medical degree at Dalhousie University in 1981. She started her family practice in 1983 and has been an active member of the Carleton Memorial Hospital staff, serving as Chief of Family Medicine and then Chief of the Department of Obstetrics from 2007 to the present at the Upper River Valley Hospital.
She was instrumental in establishing the Obstetrical Department at the Upper River Valley Hospital, which required the development of a model unique to New Brunswick and has allowed the delivery of obstetrics to continue for women in this area. This program has resulted in family medicine residents from Memorial University rotating through the program regularly. As Medical Education Director for Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick in the Upper River Valley area, Dr. Goodine is currently developing a longitudinal integrated clerkship, scheduled to begin in September 2014 that would allow residents to spend the entire year at the hospital.
President of the New Brunswick Medical Society in 2005-06, Dr. Goodine sat on numerous committees, including the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, the Perinatal Care Committee and the Negotiating Committee. She was also a member of the Economics Committee for nine years serving as Chair from 2002-2004 and was a strong advocate for New Brunswick doctors in the midst of contract negotiations.
When the Province of New Brunswick was interested in exploring the expanded role of nurses a few years ago, Dr. Goodine was chosen as one of two sites to pilot the program which also included a concurrent pilot program on electronic medical records. Dr. Goodine has served as the New Brunswick representative on the Canadian Medical Association's Board of Directors and has been an ALARM Instructor for the past 15 years.
Other committee work includes maternity and child care, child and adolescent mental health, nurse practitioner planning, drug and therapeutic prevention and treatment and midwifery planning. Dr. Goodine enjoys mentoring future doctors; she is an associate professor of family medicine and a preceptor in family medicine for Dalhousie University.
Her dedication extends to her community, where she's conducted prenatal classes and sex education in junior high schools, chauffeured children to basketball games, assisted in a cooperative kindergarten and volunteered on the Carleton Memorial Hospital Foundation Board.
Dr. Goodine and her husband Dr. Bill Goodine have four children, Billy, Kaitlyn, Jamie and Natalie.
