Kudos for making remote editing more appealing!
I try :)
We've been using DaVinci Resolve's collaborative features in form of a self-hosted project server for over two years now. We use a self-hosted instance of Nextcloud to sync all the files and it has made collaborative editing truly amazing compared to what we had before.
While still on set, I created 2K H.264 proxies and thew them into our Nextcloud folder. At home, an editor could make a rough cut with these files within the same hour of shooting and tell us what pickups might be needed. And all we needed was a laptop and a phone with a wireless hotspot to upload the proxies.
Love the tip.
In my opinion, editors are on the same plane as DP's and directors for creativity they bring to the table. As someone who does not do edits, I appreciate the learning this channel provides - thank you!
Those guys are rocking it, such great examples, very inspiring
So glad you've been able to share some of the success stories from people who participate in your course! I'd love to see more of these stories.
The editing for this video itself is so good! Such a treat!
Amazing stuff! Inspirational :)
This shows that 'long distance' need not be an obstacle in the editing process.
Awesome video and insights into the workflow. I always enjoy your light touch and how effectively you draw out the story in your videos.
This workflow is exactly what I implemented with my editing Assists during Covid. Using Dropbox and same folders. It made it possible. I cut 3 features this way.
Love ur stuff Sven
Excellent as always!
Glad you think so!
Thanks for inviting us @ThisGuyEdits ;)
It was a pleasure editing your interviews 🙂
Man the other day I woke up at 3am and I suddenly starting thinking how to do a cold open for a video I'm working on. I came out with the whole thing while laying in bed. I just wished it happened during the day 😂 I feel you John! Exc video
Great video!
Great vid. Insightful.
Glad you enjoyed it
Currently editing my first feature on my own at 20 years old and your videos have been a great help

Bless u ❤❤❤❤❤
yo!amaing edition. see ya!~:)
Just wanna ask, why didn't you guys choose to use Premiere Team projects instead of Dropbox as a remote editing solution?
Davinci resolve studio 18 has the world wide server sharing service, all can share like you were in the same room
That problem they were having with that one scene is the exact same problem I had when I edited a video of my kids doing a hot chip challenge. My wife would talk in the middle of the recording to give direction to my kids and my kids would start doing their thing in the middle of my wife giving them direction which made it difficult to get a good shot. It was a troublesome hurdle to get over but I made it work. Another problem I had was that there was no actual conclusion to the video. So I had to re-work some shots to put together an ending. My wife was surprised by the end result.
@Tyler Durden Yeah. I have 3.
@Tyler Durden Why do you ask?
🔥
I just realized you got almost half a million subs now! Wow! VG aus Frankfurt
Thank you. Slowly creeping towards that golden button. Just another 5 years or so :)

3 first time editors from 3 different countries edited a feature film completely remotely. Join me for a FREE live webinar where I lay out a plan for you to become a film editor. Coming in November - Secure yourr spot at filmindustrysecrets.com. FREE SEATS ARE LIMITED!
This 90 minute presentation goes deep on the three hidden patterns that should help you get your first gig, move up, and get you to edit your dream projects. This took me only 12 years to figure out :) And now you get to steal it (I mean, clone it) in a completely ethical way. Happy editing!
And btw, this works for directors, cinematographers, production assistants, gaffers, and crafts service people too.
Do you have any plans for a discount on go to editor? Anytime soon?

Where could I find good remote editors to hire? Everyone having a "This Guy Edits" contest to find the most talented folks isn't realistic. What forums/groups/etc are people hanging out virtually?
You could reach out to me and set up a bootcamp. We are talking to all kinds of director and have two running right now.

Making an short film in Tokyo looking for an editor
When I was editing for a RUclips channel, I was editing from across the country with multiple editors from across the world and it worked. I don't know why there are people who believe you need to be local to edit.
I clicked because I want to win! 🎉🎉
So the whole video is an ad :D?
Not all of it. Part of it is sponsored.
So, I dont get it. I just need re-edit a film? and I'll have more jobs? Clickbait? Or did I miss the point?
I think the bigger message is that you can set yourself up to cut narrative even if you work remotely. Model their workflow and you win :)
Brain.exe Has Stopped Working
😂less hassles on Davinci
Resolve 18 has been a revelation. Putting the project files (regardless of editing platform) in Dropbox isn’t a great idea as Dropbox won’t know what to do with changes should more than one timeline or project be open at the same time. Resolve Cloud locks the timeline that you’re working on so other editors can only view it. They can still open the same timeline in the color page. If a Premier project in Dropbox is able to lock a timeline to a single user I’d be surprised. They did make it work, so I still might be…
