Introducing Joey the Kelpie

- We’d like to properly introduce you all to the newest member of our family, Joey the Kelpie.
Joey arrived at the farm two weeks ago and has been undertaking a trial period to see if she might be a suitable adoption for us. Being quite a unique home environment for a rescue dog, we needed to be sure Joey could happily coexist with so many different dogs.
Joey has come from Working Paws, a rescue organisation that helps working breeds who have been rejected from Australian farms, be suitably rehomed. Before finding her way into foster care through Working Paws, Joey was on a sheep farm. It didn’t work out at the farm, and knowing Joey now, we can probably work out why it wouldn’t have. She’s already given our horse a nip on the nose and when she first arrived she was very focused on jockeying the dogs and not the activity/game. Not a great combo when herding sheep, and there was a lot of work in store for us.
Joey has gone through an intense period of training and socialisation over the last two weeks. We could tell from the minute we met her she was super intelligent and would respond very well to the language we teach at the farm.
In the two weeks, Joey has been helped to swim for the first time. She showed a very eager keenness to get in and swim with the pack, and after showing her and offering her lots of encouragement she has not only become a full farm fish ... she’s just started on Friday gone, to dive in. She’s a very quick learner and has a can do attitude we absolutely love!
Joey is somewhere between 10-14 months old and an incredibly sweet dog. From the first day she arrived she has showered us with hugs and kisses. She wants to snuggle with you on the couch with her whole body across your lap and her little nose buried into your arm pit. She loves the girls and they already love her back.
We’re excited to have Joey as a part of our family and to be able to give her a second chance life at the farm. We’re looking forward to sharing her journey with you all. Welcome Joey!

I watch this video once a week to get my Joey fix. I was following the channel for quite a while when she arrived, and she melted my heart. Love everything about her! 🥰
Just rewatched this, and I would imagine Joey at the sheep farm thinking, hmmmm this isn’t for me, there has to be something better. I want to work, but not here. And then she lands at the farm. Hit the jackpot. ❤️

My favorite video clip of Joey is when she and Tilly were given an extended drop command outside, near the pond amidst the daycare pack, and Joey couldn’t help but inch forward some on her belly toward the active group.🤣

I was thinking the same! I just found this channel and have been binging it and Joey won the Doggo Lottery! I wish there was a spot I my area where I could have my puppy (she's 12 but still a puppy to me!) there to play around with the gang!

I never knew the name of this little affection-demander … I thought she was half Doberman or Min-Pin or something as I am unfamiliar with the Kelpie breed here in Canada 🇨🇦. I have always loved watching this pretty & energetic puppy interact on the farm and now I know her name is Joey!

I never knew anything about Kelpies and now I want one! (Exactly like Joey.....I love her)!
Learn about them, they aren't for everyone, VERY strong herding and nipping instinct, need a HUGE amount of exercise and mental stimulation, and a BIG yard. Also, what most dont mention, they tend to be pack dogs, so better with a mate. Lotsa luck!
@@markhill9275 I am just fascinated by her. Following DDFT I understand how much exercise and stimulation they need. Joey, Nala, tangy And Luna are perfect for the farm. I would never get a dog that needed a ton of activity if I couldn’t provide it.
@@lal400 Kelpies are the most loyal loving dogs, they live just please you. I had a Smithfield Kelpie, Jess, girl 16 years, smart, go all day tough as nails, good with people, but a good judge of character, would be in anything. I wish you luck!
I didn’t know anything about them either. Years ago my grandfather had an Australia Shepherd, I think. He was a cattleman. That dog was so smart. But he would have loved a kelpie. I want one too. Have fallen love with them over the past 2 years from being a DDFT fan. I never miss a video. And have seen all many times!
@@amandatolleson7740 Kelpies are a LOT of work! They need huge amounts of exercise, both physical and mental, or they get destructive. Working Kelpies can run over 50 kilometres a day, every day! By the way, the Australian shepherd isn't Australian. There are only 2 breeds of dog from Aus, Kelpie, and Queensland Heeler, blue or red.

We've always had rescue dogs, 9 in all, Zak our 8th dog was a kelpie, we rescued him when he was 7 months old, the local RSPCA kennel over here in Wales said he was an unspecified mongrel. He was such a handsome dog and seemed so friendly we wanted him straight away, we couldn't understand why he hadn't been taken before!! We took him home and introduced him to our staffie/black lab cross, they got on really well and after the first day it seemed as if they had been life long friends. The RSPCA notes said he would probably be unsuitable to go to a home with another dog, I guessed this was rubbish and so it proved, he loved all other dogs as long as long as they were friendly. Zak was so quick to learn anything, we didn't know he was a kelpie for the first 6 months of being with us, then a young woman with a kelpie came past our house and I asked her what breed he was. I'd never heard of a kelpie before, called our Zak and there it was, two kelpies. Went on the internet and there it was, we were so surprised, read up about the breed and yes Zak was definitely a kelpie. He just learned everything so quickly what a clever dog. Then when we had had him about 9 years he just collapsed one morning and died later on that day. What a sad loss, he had been the best rescue doge we'd ever had, our first dog, a collie/lab cross came a close second. Most of the rest were just normal lovely dogs, just nowhere near as friendly, clever or wanting to do things and learn stuff as those two. Special dogs create a lasting effect on us. Watching your channel brings back loads of lovely memories for us and I just enjoy watching all your dogs getting on so well together, I realise it can take some serious work to get where you are today. Keep up the good work, regards, John.
