I've been using them for years, dehydrated, as parsley. I grow my own carrots and after the various ways of processing them, their by product is the tops. Parsley can get really expensive and in Southeast Texas, I have a hard time keeping mine alive between the excessive rain, hurricanes and then the off year of extreme heat and blistering sun. They're great and no one will ever suspect, unless they know you're already a frugal foodie person, that you used carrot tops as parsley in your soups or dishes.
Y E S!!! I have watched at least 30 videos on dehydrating carrot tops. NO ONE (except you) showed everything from cutting to washing to dehydrating and the temperature to... Thank You ❤
You blew me away with the celery leaves video. Now, I will need to run out to the garden and get my carrot tops too. Lol. Normally, I toss them to sheep and chickens. They'll have to share with me this week.
Carrot tops are so great to cook with either fresh or dried. We always save our, dry them and use them through the winter. Glad you are getting the word out to others to use them!
Love dehydrating tops. When we harvest our carrots we have a lot of tops. My veggie powder jar gets rejuvenated after harvest! Its asparagus season in my garden, so harder ends get dehydrated and powdered too and get tossed into the jar. I've been thinking of doing chickweed, dandelion leaf, and purslane, but I'd have to fight the chickens for that!!
Thank you!!! I've fed mine to the pigs and chickens in the past, but after leaving the farm, I have always felt that I was wasting these. Thanks again!
Darcy, your videos are so informative. I had no idea carrot tops were edible! I just shared your videos with a friend who is new to dehydrating. Thanks 🦋
I had wondered if carrot tops whereedible, now I jnow,I;m a big fan of yourgreen powder which I jokingly refer to as soylent green. You've likely seen the 1973 film featuring CHeston and E G Robinson. thanks for yet another informant video
I was just wondering about this today. I knew chickens loved them--and I know they wind around my blender blade shaft--but wondered if there's something I can use them for (I don't have chickens yet). Thanks for this!
Last year I tried sautéing the carrot greens with some other greens. We didn’t like the carrot greens but maybe powdered an a small amount in a mix would be ok. I grow quite a few carrots so will give it a try this way.
@The Purposeful Pantry And now..... I'm sending you a GREAT BIG HUG!!!! Your videos are filled with life-enhancing information. I followed your tips, dried a HUGE basket of carrot tops and will stay tuned to learn more about food preservation. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
My carrots just didn’t do good more because neighbors dog dug them up 4 times but I will replant again in September as my Texas heat I can’t redo in this heat it’s mostly our fall crop, can’t wait to use my carrot greens instead of throwing them to chickens

I been throwing these away all my 50+ years. Thanks for enlightening the people

I love how you use everything in a plant. I think this would be wonderful in pasta.
Once I went to visit my Dad in Jamaica he brew some carrot leaves for tea it so delicious and flavorful.Guys try it so so good.❤
I am so excited that my hubby is building me new raised beds so I can garden again and have fresh veggies like carrots!
That is awesome!
They make a nice pesto too.
Also, you can plant the top of the taproot and regrow the greens for seed.

I'm glad you found it helpful!
I agree about dehydrating carrot tops. I use them like parsley in soups.
I'm subscribing right now...your tips are helping me out with these carrot stems!!Thank you.😁
Great idea - I can always count on you to enlighten me with frugal, nutritional, almost free products. Thank you!
Your video was the first to pop up...I was looking for what to do with my carrot tops! They are tasty 😋
I keep a lot of herb stems in the freezer, to use in broths and stocks. Carrot stems are a good idea, too! Thank you.
I love the sort of strong taste (not sure how else to describe it) it gives in a good vegetable soup.
i put the top inch of the living carrots i buy for stew, in a dish on the kitchen windowsill. they look so happy growing!!
I did dry my carrot tops last year but I fed them to my chicken during the winter months.
I make pesto with my carrot tops

I've considered them. I'm encouraged to dry some & see how I like them.
Thank you very much Darcy for answering my question!!,!
You are so welcome!
mmmm... think of that added to carrot cake batter for more flavor too (or muffins)
I like this! Nothing wasted. Thanks for sharing. ~ Kate
You are so welcome!
Always enjoy your thorough videos. 😀 planted carrots this year. so will try dehydrating the greens this year.
Wonderful!
Great way to use all parts of the carrots 🥕 No food waste.

Carrot tops, like the leaves of other vegetables have a higher nutritional value than the vegetable. Something of great value to use, not throw away.
😊 thank you for sharing I was actually searching for something else but stop searching for that because I wanted to watch this♥️
I make pesto out of carrot tops too
Good to know this. Thank you.
Didn't know such a tiny DH machine available - cool.
Thank you! LOVED this video! I learned a lot!!!! ❤️
Great!

Great idea! I love my green powder you showed. I can mix them can’t I?
Yep!
@@ThePurposefulPantry 👍 Ty!
Thanks for a great video. What do you mean by "conditioning" the dried herbs? Thank you!

Tks for sharing
Carrot tops have 6x vitamin c, and lots of calcium and potassium
Where did you get that dehydrator? I love it
Links are always in the description box - got it from Amazon.
My carrots just didn’t do good more because neighbors dog dug them up 4 times but I will replant again in September as my Texas heat I can’t redo in this heat it’s mostly our fall crop, can’t wait to use my carrot greens instead of throwing them to chickens
Sorry to hear that
Spray organic vinegar dogs cats hate that smell they will not touch it again
Cook the stems like green beans or asparagus.
They also make good pesto.
Do you have to stir to turn over the product on the trays as the dry
If you over pack it, yes.
So are strawberry leaves, right?
yes
Is it ok to use the stems, if I don't have an issue with a small dehydrator?
Even with a small dehydrator, it's okay to use the stems.
More nutritious green powder, yeah! :-)
Where do you buy that dehydrator

Awesome idea thanks!
You bet!
How much of the vit c gets lost when we dehydrate these?
If you do it as I suggested, none - under 115F keeps things 'raw' - the lower the better.
@@ThePurposefulPantry thanks Darcy!
How do you eat it
The same way you do any dehydrated greens - in sauces, sprinkled on salad, as a replacement for parsley.
What cc do you use on oxygen absorbers
I don't. But if you need info: www.thepurposefulpantry.com/how-to-store-dehydrated-foods/
I love how you waste nothing
