- Suella Braverman, giving a speech on migration in the United States, said it was time for the “definition of who qualifies for protection” to be “tightened” as she advocated for changes to international treaties governing refugee rules.
A “fear of being branded a racist or illiberal” has prevented reform of the global asylum system, according to Braverman.
The Home Secretary said in her speech: “Any attempt to reform the refugee convention will see you smeared as anti-refugee.
“Similar epithets are hurled at anyone who suggests reform of the ECHR (European Convention on Human Rights) or its court in Strasbourg.
“I reject that notion that a country cannot be expected to respect human rights if it is not signed up to an international human rights organisation.
“Unilateral or bilateral solutions and policies of deterrence can and do work.”
Ms Braverman said that while “international co-operation is essential” in creating an “asylum framework fit for the modern age”, “nations cannot simply sit on their hands while a reform process plays out”.
“It is right that they act in their national interest.”

Ive heard it said, 75% of claims are granted so far because they are focussing on the actual women and children first. The young inbred men washing up on the shores may be greeted by a far lower rate of asylum. Time will tell.

The UN dictate global policy - how do we elect or vote out the heads of the UN or those that sit on Committees and make decisions? Oh, silly me, we can't.
Global policy via the UN is to encourage, not deter, mass global migration. This is a manufactured issue, and whoever you vote for it won't change.

It is ironic that legal immigration has never been as high in UK history since brexit, the government has complete control of this but have encouraged increasing immigration. Words mean nothing without action.

A free independent UK should completely drop the ECHR and the UN refugee convention and make new rules for refugees (welfare migrants) themselves. Rules that will force, for example, the EU to do something similar. The EU population will simply demand that. 😉
Two questions:
1. If ECHR is left, which British legal souce will say that we have free speech?
2. If ECHR is the problem, how come Poland and Hungary stopped the migrants without leaving it?

Yes integration will be extremely difficult whilst we have this Home Secretary. I spent years working with refugees in London and had huge respect for most - I would myself like to have the level of integrity and courage that so many had. I suspect the current front bench of government would not understand a word of what I have said here.
