It's a shame. Mafia 2 just feels so empty. With some life sim elements, where you can buy things and manage criminal rackets, and a storyline that wasn't cut down, it could have been the best crime game ever made.

Heard originally they were gonna make a entire campaign where you were in Sicily during the War, instead of one sole mission. Maybe more chapters in prison as well. Option to join the Vinci Family. Etc. Its probably too late for them to make a remake and add all this in, but Mafia 2 seriously had the greatest potential

Just look at it, they tried to make it a GTA, but thank God they didn't have enough time so the game was cut, and without all of this alpha stuff the game just is better. Empire Bay is a small City, without much to do, adding all of these just wouldn't work. The game is good as it is.

KMac not the devs fault they were pressured my higher ups at 2K Czech to just throw away the unfinished content and release the game APAP and when the game didn’t sell as much as they thought it would they fired some of the devs some of whom worked there for years
They had a gold mine with Mafia 2 definitive edition, they could've implement some of these mechanics on the remaster Hope they don't mess up the remake of the first one

Yes I give them credit for still being able to make a great game despite a lot of deadlines and having to sacrifice content in order to do so. It just pisses me off that this and Mafia III weren't given the same treatment as GTA V and the Red Dead Redemption games. I honestly think if the Former(s) were they would put GTA V to shame and would at least match the quality of Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2 to say the least.

I think they should make a new mafia game with all of these contents instead of remake old game, keeping remake old games is kind of lazy and some of the cut contents here if being brought back could affect a lot on the story line
There was a lot of videos from devs diary, where you could see a lot of cut content. Those probably removed now after 10 years. From 2010 game industry has changed. Devs were told to rush the game out. I remember when DLC era has started. You have to pay same amount after game release two weeks later for additional shitty content. Its same situation these days. Games has good graphics (but everything else is quite piece of shit) and us (buyers) are attracted by "first look". Me as a game developer can clearly see how much effort was put back then and how much is now.

Now it makes sense. Open world is not-so-open, even the story is feels rushed near to the end and ends without real conclusion. With those cut content, Mafia II could've been a masterpiece. But it's just feels... not enough.
Seeing cut content always makes me sad. I wish game developers would just leave cool little details like these into games like this even if it does mean a few more months and even a year working on the title. Red Dead Redemption 2 took years to complete and what we got was a huge interactive and living open world, and we all know how well that game was received. Well, the singleplayer anyway.
i was playing mafia2 yesterday and i was near a boatyard and there was literally stealth-grass. It was like 3ft tall grass, when you walked inside it he automatically crouched and walked slower. I think it was a stealth system or something that never got added
The closest detailed game to this I’ve EVER played is RDR 2, and that was released in 2018 so for back in 2010, this game was way ahead of time... with these tiny little details, it would make the game a whole lot better but with mafias details already it’s a great game... I personally would’ve liked to have the barber shop and the real estate place that was cut...

At 2:50 you can see some picture of cars on a board, maybe there are a couple of missions there, maybe some heist or stealing some cars for the car vendor. Maybe this way you can unlock unique cars that you can buy after stealing them for this car vendor maybe some discounts aswell who knows 😏🥂

Mafia 2 and halo 2 almost have the save dev story. both had different engines from the ones they first started out on, they both had alot cut from them, the making of the game was hell. And last but not least if both games had just a little more time they could have been the best games. still very good games but not the status these gamnes deserve! really sad to see that they need to put games like this out when there are still so many things they could make and add on to thats why i like how some game studios mostly indie :( take their time and say the game is done when it is done.

Mafia 2 and halo 2 almost have the save dev story. both had different engines from the ones they first started out on, they both had alot cut from them, the making of the game was hell. And last but not least if both games had just a little more time they could have been the best games. still very good games but not the status these gamnes deserve! really sad to see that they need to put games like this out when there are still so many things they could make and add on to thats why i like how some game studios mostly indie :( take their time and say the game is done when it is done.

The fact that they cut public transportation out of the game is pretty disappointing
Cuz some missions would leave you out of nowhere and the only options you have left is by robbing ped's cars
