The Secret Speakeasies of Montreal

- During the Roaring Twenties, Montréal was one of the few places in North America where you could still buy alcohol legally, earning it the title of "Nightlife Capital" by Canadians and the "Paris of North America" by Americans. 100 years later, the city remains one of the liveliest cities on the continent, full of nightclubs, jazz bars and secret “hidden” speakeasies that while not always secret, are often difficult to find - unless you have the inside scoop.

We're moving back to my hometown of Montreal in a month, and I'm sooooo excited!
And I also meant to comment that your videos have been such a pleasure to watch in the meantime. They are so very well made and show such a deep affection for such a special city.
Lucky you. I'm stuck in Quebec City for a few more years. Then, back to MTL.
@@soniab8109 Quebec City is such beautiful place place to be "stuck", all in all. I hope you make the most of it while you're there, and soon enough you'll be back.
I didn't even know speakeasy bars existed, thank you.
Clearly Discover Montreal doesn’t know how to keep a secret 🤨
i have so many question like who are you, how do you find all the footage and why are these video so gooood
😎 hehe
You'll have to take a number my friend! lol Just joking... He's truly the very best editor there is on RUclips by far!
Très bonne vidéo copain j’ai beaucoup apprécié thumbs up
I live in Montreal. I was born in 1959. A lot of those old nightlife signs we see here in vintage footage, I remember from my youth.
I am astounded at the number of speakeasy's left in Montreal! You truly are the very BEST researcher AND editor on RUclips my dear Chris! Much love and respect to you my friend!Just another Amazing video...as expected!
Great video, '' A bientot Discover Montreal ''
For kids, a lot of the affordable places were taverns that transformed into brasseries once the PQ was first elected in 1976. You could get draft beer and a simple meal at places like the Alsatien, the Richard, the Toe Blake, the Monkland, dozens of others.
Those taverns were fun.
This video is the cat's pyjamas!
"Paris of North America" makes me laugh. The two cities have nothing in common.
how do all afford the rent?
That's the fun part, you can't!
Just when I thought I knew everything about this glorious city, this channel keeps me coming back for more. There's no place like home 💌🤟🏩
