I once had a second gen fit here in the States and I'm increasingly suspicious that it was the best car I'll ever own. Perfect pedals, a super stiff lower chassis, the top heaviness actually gave it a fun feel, I could vertically store snowboards in the back seats (!!!), lift throttle oversteer was baked in from the factory, the steering and shifter were direct and clean...The list of hindsight goodness just never ends. Mad respect, even if adding a passenger made it genuinely slow lol.
that fit is a steal, even with that little bit of rust. i own one, its like legos. so simple, anything could be easy to fix. these are incredible cars and the engine is so reliabel for $4500. 96k miles when you could honestly drive this thing beyond 300k with maybe one clutch replacement
They're OK cars, getting to the radiator or thermostat is a pain, doing any engine work requires to remove a bunch of stuff because it's a tight fit (no pun) to get to anything. A new battery is impossible to find, so you'll have to use a 51R battery, and it'll fit, but it will be rubbing on the induction box. If you want to do aftermarket stuff, good luck finding quality parts.
@@sieve5 To be fair, the automatics in C5s tend to shit the bed at exactly 100k miles, so it may have early transmission failure signs. IIRC a transmission rebuild is like $2k because you have to drop the whole rear subframe to do it. Still, even $12k is not a bad price if everything else is good.

The 85 thousand mile mustang peeked my attention. I own a 08 gt with a stick and a Whipple supercharger and it has 85 thousand miles. But soon as you said the "motor has 85,000" i was like nope completely different thing.
I went from looking at evo 8s and type R's to picking up a '04 Z06 with 75k miles for $20k USD... it compliments my AW11 very well, its a hell of a bargain for a performance car, even if the interior is fisher price spec.
Great cars. Almost ready to tear it up in track days from the factory. If you want to do some track days all it really needs is a moderate brake upgrade.
Couple notes from a c5 💩box enthusiast. Finding a clean, electrical gremlin free, 6spd c5 isnt thaaaaat easy anymore. Trust me lololol Avoiding the f55 active suspension and going 2001+ to avoid the unserviceable ecbm module. Couple other noteworthy things in the search but those are the main ones to avoid. TLDR. 2001-2004 6spd without active suspension is the most desirable.
@@CollectorCarFeed i think mainly the servicing years later. Same goes for C4’s even though it’s a totally different system. Years later to rebuilt it is expensive versus replacing with conventional shocks which is what I ended up doing.

Which have a pretty annoying price hike on em just to have a functioning suspension. There's a way to code it out on the 2003-2004 cars with a Tech2 scan tool. but that's the only other fix i've heard of that's "fool proof". Some have tried to rig up a dummy plug for it with mixed results.

I went from owing 2 rx7 FC's (absolute sht cars) and both the IS/SC300 to buying a mustang gt with a manual to a C4 vette and a no kemamobile Silverado and got way more bang for buck than I ever did for my rx7's. Jdm cars have gottem way too much hype that the price out paces the value of the actual car.
I actually agree with this. There are hundreds of American cars made in the 80s and 90s that handle well, come turbocharged and manual, and look neat, that are nowhere near as expensive or clapped as their Japanese equivalents

When I was shopping for my next project car it was very easy to get recommended old used american v6-v8, they're dime a dozen, but they're also basically whats at every car meet along with GTis, lancers and WRXs. I wanted something more noticable, desirable, even if it was ultimately weaker. if I was a guy that strictly just wanted power, yeah, american is the way to go, but in my opinion, most american cars that are cheap and powerful tend to be seriously ugly. but that c5 basically looks like a FD rx7 but with the downside of only making old grandpas interested in it.

Those 5 cylinders felt like they had maybe 20 ft lbs of torque if that; they struggled to get the H3 out of a parking lot, let alone out on the road!

I had an SVX it wasnt bad at all was really cool. regret selling it but hey i have extra parts if you ever need them

They're great cars but parts are getting harder to find. I've been stockpiling parts for mine for years and some things are getting scarce. They drive alot like a 300zx. Just a really amazing cruiser.
