6 speed manual anything is the way to go. I love shifting gears. But as a bachelor, I want that Wrangler. Looks like a car a woman would like to see a man drive.
You just answered just about every thought and question just had about manual jeep wranglers. I hope to get one of these too if I can master driving a manual. Still learning
I have a 98 wrangler and I love it. It's super fun to drive. Plus you feel a lot more connected with your car. I really do recommend getting a manual transmission car no matter what it is
I didn't know manual Jeeps could do this. I thought you would be engaging the clutch all the time while off road. I'm going to check out some manual Jeeps now. Pretty cool that you can even let out the clutch in 2wd and won't stall without gas.
Test drove a wrangler 2014 and the manual transmission has a clutch that is super light. There is not really any resistance at all. Great for stop and go. Won't wear out your left foot at all.
I had a 2005 Rubicon with a manual. I could put it in 4 low, put it in first gear, let out on the clutch and it would just slowly crawl along. I could literally get out and walk along side of it. ( I did it in a large open field before anyone panics) The Rubicons are very low geared.
Very nice Ricardo, especially because Jessica could be a man with a beautiful girl as profile... Look who I am :D Otherwise, if she is real, you are sick bro :/ btw... I love the manual Jeep too :D
Tip: if you happen to stall in low on a hill, you can start the jeep without pushing in the clutch. Just have it in gear and turn the key. She'll start and start to crawl without having to burn up the clutch.
+Zavion Yeh, coming from sports cars where you always need to give it some gas (unless its a cold start) I was shocked how even on a hill you don't need to give the jeep any gas.
I had a 1994 Jeep YJ that I learned to drive in, sold it, missed it, bought a 1987 Jeep YJ, sold it because I had to move across the country for work, missed it, and am now buying a 2020 JLU. Excited to see how things have changed. Update: Bought a 2020 Willy’s 2 Door
Used to manual sportcars, didnt realize its not a clutch phenomenon till the dude says its like my Suzuki Sv650 and will roll engaged. Just bought 15 Wrangler Sport. Great vehicle.
Just fyi, this is only how it works with the Rubicon, because of the 4:10 gears. If you get a base model wrangler with the 3:21 gears, when you're in 2 wheel drive you need to give it a little gas shifting into 1st. I still recommend the manual transmission with any model. But the 4:10 gears are very nice lol. Just wanted to make sure people know this though
A friend of mine has a manual jeep and he let me drive it. i instantly fell in love with jeeps and i am saving up for one myself! I do however have a question for you, How did the jeep not stall when you let go of the clutch? Even when you were in 2WD it didnt stall. How??
It was in L, he put a lever down in order to get higher power with little torque, and FYI you stall when you have the foot on the brake and you let go the clutch in gear
No wonder it climbed the hill easily not because it’s a manual but because he was it 4 low instead of high and has rubicon which means yes Dana 44 with lockers smh thumbs down
I learned how to drive manual in a 81 280Z. I've owned four cars since and all have been manual. Remember, Jeeps are 4WD NOT AWD. So when you're doing your daily grind running around town 99% of the time you'll be in 2WD, unless you live in some god forsaken frozen tundra of a town.
I’m thinking of buying a Jeep Wrangler manual and I had the EXACT SAME QUESTION! I’m also used to driving manual sports cars and didn’t understand how that would work when off-roading. Well, I’m off to trade my Type R for a Wrangler today! Thanks for the info!
That really answered all of my questioned about manual off roading. I was worried about all of this. My manual forester is problematic off road, however it's not a proper 4X4
I'm a fairly new driver and i'm looking into getting a jeep. I just cant decide whether to get a manual or auto. I wouldn't be doing hard core offroading more like using it to get though semi difficult terrain. The thing is I have problems with stalling the engine in other vehicles when going from neutral to first. Would the fact that the jeep keeps it self in a crawl help? Or should I just get an auto.
Harrison W to be honest, auto would be the best fir for you. I have the same uses for my jeep as yours and i think automatic is just convenient. Its dependes on how you are
Harrison W I'm a new driver also, only 16, I've been driving a 1995 YJ automatic for 3 months, and I've recently bought a 2007 jku manual, and obviously there's a 12 year difference, but I prefer the manual, as I thinks it's fun.
I drive manual and don’t know how the Jeep don’t stall when in a hill or doesn’t roll back, is some kind of hill assist its have because try that with a regular manual car and if you don’t find the point and start to put on gas car wouldn’t go up hill, it’s going down. But automatic transmission, sure, you put in drive and let go on pedals and will move foward in a little inclination. BTW this is a test to you know if transmission isn’t worn out, if transmission is going bad, car doesn’t pull foward in an automatic transmission going uphill.
Tengo un 2019 wrangler de transmisión manual, es mi vehículo diario y para weekends! Ayuda a mantenerme atento a la carretera! Ademas hago Uber, y los pasajeros aman subirse a la Jeep
Hi! Im buying my first manual jeep wrangler sport and am freaking out about rollin back up hill.. do you have any tips for this specific vehicle? can i hack it by putting it in 4Low
I wouldn't put it in 4wd on the pavement. But a cheat way to not roll back until you become comfortable with it is hold the e-brake while you let off the brake, slowly let the clutch out, give it some gas, and let off the e-brake. In reality you should only roll back less then 1 foot, it feels like 3 feet from the inside, but it won't be much! Congrats on the Jeep!
Hi. I have a 2013 manual and it came included with a standard feature called Hill Start Assist (“HSA”). It locks the brakes for about 2 extra seconds when you stop on a hill and release the brakes. During those two seconds you can transition to accelerating while the brakes are automatically being released. Pretty handy when you get the timing down.
I have driven a TJ and a JLU both manual. I don't know why people buy the automatic versions. To my suprise the JLU had a very nice almost sports car like shifting feel. Jeeps in my opinion feel more authentic with manuals.
Honestly most people like the daily driving aspects with the auto. For off roading the manual is the way to go. i just filmed the new Bronco with a manual. Huge step up with how the Wrangler feels. Very fun off road with a manual I'm sure ruclips.net/video/y0QMjyES0qA/видео.html
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Yep good point, I can't really blame those who daily jeeps. IMO for me they are too spartan for a daily lol. However I can respect someone wanting them as a daily. They are pretty cool to say the least.
Which year is this? I'm looking into the manual as well for a Rubicon. I know I'm getting something past the year 2012. Are all manual Rubicons capable of of crawling like that with no clutch? Or is it just a 2016 feature? That's my main reason for hesitating on manual. Is because I don't want to constantly engage the clutch at extreme low speeds on tough terrain
I had a manual JK 2dr back several years ago and while I loved it being manual.. I’m sorry. Times have changed and bar none..a modern automatic is far superior to the manual. It certainly doesn’t have that unique fun factor that a manual does… but at the end of the day an automatic on trail involves less winching, less hassle, and less putting down one’s beverage.
Honestly that’s a personal preference. If you drive a manual great, if you drive an auto, great.. whichever the buyer wants and will enjoy! You can get just as stuck in an auto, that’s on the driver lol
@@BrosFOURRSpeed oh totally. There is definitely a lot of preference involved! However automatics do have an extra mechanical advantage over manuals as automatics have a torque converter, effectively giving them extra gear reduction somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.8-2.5:1. Because of this, an auto sport can, in some situations, produce more torque than a manual rubicon. A lesson I learned firsthand with my old ‘12 JK.
I personaly think that Manual trans is the only way to go for all people that dont live in a busy city. I am curious as to after a few years you still lie your jeep and how much it has cost you to maintain also is ( or was ) it your daily driver, I have heard many bad things about jeep after they bought Fiat people talk about there are so many parts out there for them , in my Logic this is because many of them have broken down and well end up in the Junk yards but then I think this is also because many people dont properly maintain their off road Vehicles they treat them as a normal car but $x4s need more maintenance if they are being used off road . I have been tempted to check out a 2010 mountain at the dealership its manual with 95000Km which seems pretty low but then also I would be using it as a daily driver so its makes me a little hesitant. a small story I had a 1979 Dodge ram 4x4 and my driveway was pretty long and on a steep hill sometimes I would get noises so I would put it in bull low and the let the truck crawl up the hill on its own while I lay under neither to find the noise worked great , I used to sometimes get ujoints that would go from myself driviing up and over small boulders in creakbeds which the ujoints didnt like, so finding which one made noise could be tricky on my own lol
I thought it would be harder to off road in a manual Jeep... Still deciding between Sahara and Rubicon... Gonna use as a daily driver manual and a weekend off road fun car with a 3.5" lift and 35" tires. Sahara or Rubicon? Opinions?
I have a 2015 jeep wrangler sport s manual transmission just bought like last week. Used with 5000 ish miles on it which is amazing being 2 years old. I am actually now planning on 3.5" lift with 37" tires so I could get some wider tires and just that bigger stance! It'll be a great daily driver and something I can count on to drive my friends and family around when there is a flood or I need to do some quick off-roading. Then the weekends is when it's gonna get fun. Can't wait until I put the order on parts and then wait for things to break so that I could spend more money to buy things.
Saying leaving a jeep parked with no roof or doors. In a manual can't any jerk off come and take off the hand break and put it in neutral and let it roll off?
I saw this with a very old Toyota 4runner as well. I think it has got something to do with a lot of torque being converted. That is, the engine at idle easily moves the vehicle, unlike with high range where you get a lot of resistance for the engine that will cause it to stall
You can let the clutch out (slowly) on any manual car and crawl along with no accelerator on flat ground without stalling. The low-end torque and low-range transfer case simply help the Jeep a bunch when it comes to tackling obstacles and gradients, so a crappy car may well have stalled once it got to the hill :)
you dont just go slow either...you get to the friction point on the clutch and hold it for a second or two until you get rolling, then pull it out the rest of the way
Hi, I have a question, is the manual that satisfying or there are a bunch of snobs here pretending they like manual to feel more manly. I mean, I learned how to drive for the first time in a manual Russian amphibian armored vehicle (military service) and then most of my life in manuals, and I still don't see why would anyone go through the hassle of daily driving a manual Wrangler. As a second vehicle for sure, I'd have the manual, also because it's cheaper. But a second vehicle means I have another Wrangler as a first vehicle.
I own a 2 door jk sport shoes with power everything and an automatic transmission. I'm going to sell it because I need a small crossover for my new family but in 4 years of want to buy another 2 door jeep, but most likely a rubicon. the bad thing is that I don't know how to drive a stick ( try it only once) and I live in an area where I'll do bumper to bumper traffic for 2 hours a day literally, but still would like the manual since I could be my weekend warrior and it would be 2k cheaper and this jeep I told my wife I'm keeping forever, since the older it gets the more stuff I can add. should learn with and old car from Craigslist or just fuck it go buy it?
The Wrangler manual is really easy to drive. I actually prefer the stick in traffic. You just find the gear that is just a bit slower than the average speed of the stop and go idiots ahead of you and you crawl along. Put your feet up on the dash. Grab a newspaper. And soon enough you're home. Would have loved a Rubi but it was a little too much $ for me.
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to manuals, I learned on an old CJ. with the JK and modern jeeps, does the engine have enough power to let you release the clutch fully with no gas? or do you always need to be pressing the clutch a bit to keep it from stalling without giving it gas.
Ramy, I have a 2012 Base JK (2dr) my only suggestion would be to get one model up from base so you get A/C and automatic locks, and both had and soft top with it. Other then that, DO IT!
The way he's taking off without giving it any gas is possible in any car. You just left off the clutch veryyyy slowly till you find that bite point and it'll rev the engine up a tiny bit enough to get the car going.
this video was made 3 years ago. it's the year 2020 and the JL didn't come out until 2018 so the jeep he is driving must be a JK. Also you can tell by the manual shift knob that it's a JK.
EskimoCheeks thanks for the lesson on what year it is. I would agree. When I posted this I was a Jeep noob. And after the excessive exterior shots of the tail lights and the grill, I will also agree with you that it is a JK. The interior is also clearly JK.
My 2017 jk is a 6 speed , my favorite Jeep my gf has a 2015 renegade , I kinda laughed my kids ask me to use it was like ok she was like how do I use that , needless to say my kids don't ask to use my Jeep lol
Jeep Wranglers are super fun choice for the Summer/Sun -shine joy ride.. But..lol. But,, If i'm doing some interstate driving at 60-75mph,, "Hell to The No"..lol..
Unless it's cold out I don't experience any negative issues with driving my jeep on the highway.. it's about as close to a motorcycle ride as you can get without buying one
it will crawl with no gas pedal application in a sport as well. I have a 2015 jk Sport with 3.73 and auto and it crawls just fine. I'm waiting on my 2016 Rubicon (manual) order to come in from jeep and cant wait!
You're actually not wrong here. I don't know if this is true with all wranglers, I assume probably TJ and newer, but I know with my JK it is impossible to stall in 4low. You can literally dump the clutch and the engine will compensate by applying enough fuel itself to not stall. You might be able to achieve a stall if you were in gear and tried to brake to 0 mph, but that's very high risk of breaking something expensive. I feel like the computer would prevent that by only allowing X amount of brake pressure, though. As for the other gears, obviously you can stall in 2wd. But I think that once you're in gear you can stay off the gas pedal and not stall. You would just eventually lose traction and spin tires. And this may be true for all manuals, I don't know, this is my first.
I don't think so. I saw the same thing with a very old Toyota 4runner in real off-roading; rock crawling. The guy had 4.2:1 ratio and he was letting off the clutch without stalling. I think the idea here is that with low range, the engine even at idle rpm does not face enough resistance to stall it, thus it creeps forward. It's all about the torque conversion. If you do that with high range or 2 wheel drive IT WILL stall
Mr99Burns I hear ya, don't get me wrong, fun to drive. mine was hit from behind and the frame broke so I bought the rav4. but I do miss it. just, I wish they would make the gas mileage around 20 city 25 highway or something. I had an 06 brand new when I bought it then the new models came out and that sucked . I hear the new jeeps have a lot more horsepower now. Oh for another con. I always had people throwing there trash in it when I would go to walmart or something. so put top up when parked.
Jackie Selmo It doesn't burn the clutch tho. You burn your clutch when you slip it. (Giving it gas while slowly letting the clutch out for longer than needed.
Ok so Jeep purists say manual transmission is the only way to off road yet you just let technology drive your Jeep up a hill. IN A FOUR DOOR JEEP. LMAO!!!
You've obviously have never driven a manual. Once you get it down it becomes second nature. You probably prefer automatics cause you think it might be too hard to text while driving...... b/c you text while driving, huh??
6 SPD wrangler is only way to go
6 speed manual anything is the way to go. I love shifting gears. But as a bachelor, I want that Wrangler. Looks like a car a woman would like to see a man drive.

I think the 6spd is great if it's your second car, but if you have to sit in traffic and every day driving I would recommend the automatic.
Yeh that's true. It depends on how much traffic you are dealing with, because the clutch is very light on the car.
Even if the clutch is light it gets old shifting to move a few feet at a time. I personally like sticks it's just not practical for me.
True point. Can't argue with that. Have this as the weekend off-roader!
Absolutely
traffic is the best...gives your leg a real work out and helps you maintain mobility..so by 90 you still won't need a walking stick.

I thought it would be harder to off road in a manual Jeep... Still deciding between Sahara and Rubicon... Gonna use as a daily driver manual and a weekend off road fun car with a 3.5" lift and 35" tires. Sahara or Rubicon? Opinions?
What year? Have a rubicon with a 3" lift and 35's and it is absolutely amazing. Great for off-roading.
I have one and I have more questions. How can I reach out to you!?!
You can comment here or message us on Instagram! This isn't our Jeep but you can ask away!
quick question, why doesn't the car just stall out when you let off the clutch?
I saw this with a very old Toyota 4runner as well. I think it has got something to do with a lot of torque being converted. That is, the engine at idle easily moves the vehicle, unlike with high range where you get a lot of resistance for the engine that will cause it to stall
Oh okay gotcha. Seems really helpful to have on a vehicle. Thanks!
Only a vehicle with a low range transfer case (4 wheel drive and not AWD or anything else)
You can let the clutch out (slowly) on any manual car and crawl along with no accelerator on flat ground without stalling.
The low-end torque and low-range transfer case simply help the Jeep a bunch when it comes to tackling obstacles and gradients, so a crappy car may well have stalled once it got to the hill :)
you dont just go slow either...you get to the friction point on the clutch and hold it for a second or two until you get rolling, then pull it out the rest of the way
Any rev hang? My 2 week old 23 revs itself when I put it in neutral. No idea why. Driving me crazy
I can't remember on this. Filmed this video a long time ago
You might have just saved me $2,000 on the new 2018 JL Wrangler. I was back and forth on what I should get.
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to manuals, I learned on an old CJ. with the JK and modern jeeps, does the engine have enough power to let you release the clutch fully with no gas? or do you always need to be pressing the clutch a bit to keep it from stalling without giving it gas.
Right. You do not need to give it gas to move.
+Bros FOURR Speed but what happens when you let off the clutch cometely?
How many times a minute does he shift?
So you like the jeep; is it worth trading in my 90k mile problematic 2008 BMW 528i auto and buying a 2016 base wrangler with a manual for college?
If that's something you really want to do go for it! it's a great vehicle, just depends on what you need right now.
Ramy, I have a 2012 Base JK (2dr) my only suggestion would be to get one model up from base so you get A/C and automatic locks, and both had and soft top with it. Other then that, DO IT!
thank you for the suggestions!
+Dingus Tardo nothing to talk about my friend...just get a jeep...
You have a BMW? Why question it. Trade that thing in for a jeep instantly
The way he's taking off without giving it any gas is possible in any car. You just left off the clutch veryyyy slowly till you find that bite point and it'll rev the engine up a tiny bit enough to get the car going.
That doesn't wear on the clutch?
Nope. The super low range trader case just lets you crawl very slow. Engine speed is always staying high enough for good clutch engagement.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed that's crazy. I already liked Wranglers and am in the market for one, but I might look at manuals a little more closely now 👀
@@TheCreaTaur They are pretty fun!
Very nice video..
why doesn't it stall without gas on 2wd on flat ground?
John Makar exciting isn't it lol
are most jeep wranglers stick drive? Or I have to ask.
huanuoya most of the 2 doors are stick, the 4 doors are mostly automatic, but when you can find a stick... buy it!
If you don't know how to drive a manual the Jeep Wrangler is one of the easiest vehicles to learn how to drive a manual on.
very true
*looks at shift pattern* *selects gear*
ok?
Is the same thing possible in a JK?
this video was made 3 years ago. it's the year 2020 and the JL didn't come out until 2018 so the jeep he is driving must be a JK.
I smell tacoma biter 😂😂
If you have a rubicon and you don't off-road it makes me sad. Lol.
nice vid
Thanks!
Jeep Wranglers are super fun choice for the Summer/Sun -shine joy ride.. But..lol. But,, If i'm doing some interstate driving at 60-75mph,, "Hell to The No"..lol..
Yeh I've been on the highway in them, not fun at all lol
Unless it's cold out I don't experience any negative issues with driving my jeep on the highway.. it's about as close to a motorcycle ride as you can get without buying one
Might as well have not posted this video😂 Manual Jeeps have way more potential than that without dual lockers!!!!!
Actually, an automatic transmission will do the same thing with a Rubicon. It's a function of the 4 to 1 crawl ratio. js
it will crawl with no gas pedal application in a sport as well. I have a 2015 jk Sport with 3.73 and auto and it crawls just fine. I'm waiting on my 2016 Rubicon (manual) order to come in from jeep and cant wait!
Looks almost impossible to stall
Yeh that's one of the cool things about it. It just doesn't stall. I could even do that hill in 2wd with no issues
And this may be true for all manuals, I don't know, this is my first.
mas detalles por favor amigo..
If you do that with high range or 2 wheel drive IT WILL stall
can anybody tell me the cons about this car? be brutal
People stopping you to ask questions about the car?
gas. I had an 06 and paid about 55 dollars a week just to commute, that's not even run errands or going out.
Gas economy but its worth it. I can't give up my Jeep Wrangler even though I tried. Nothing comes close.
Dom wtf people do that?? Wow
You think this is easy climbing up hills... Drive a diesel 😂
Yeah I bet that low torque really helps. I've towed big boats with diesel trucks. But never off roaded one
@@BrosFOURRSpeed not many has, as far as jeeps go, I did see a TDI jeep the other day actually from factory.
Automatic is so fucking better
Why do you keep saying "truck"?
No, the keep isn't the funniest. The Mustang/Camaro/Challenger is.
Nice burning up your clutch though.
LMAO!!!
Beta
u a newbie in a manual? why are u shifting each second like someone who doesn't know what he is doing? DAMN
Doing for the video. Never driven a manual SUV before. So I just going through the gears to get the feel of it.
oh shut up Umwali let the guy do this thing. "DAMN"

You must can’t drive a manual
You've obviously have never driven a manual. Once you get it down it becomes second nature. You probably prefer automatics cause you think it might be too hard to text while driving...... b/c you text while driving, huh??
I have eaten and texted while driving a manual.. not very hard if you have enough practice
Well eating soup gets a bit tricky 🤫
