My grandfather passed two days ago and while going through some things we came upon a huge collection of newspapers. He loved to answer Celebrity Ciphers (cryptograms) and Word Puzzles! I had to see out how he figured those out! Great video!
I have a feeling the bird calls are from North America anywhere from the mid west to the east coast. I used to hear those birds in Illinois in my neighborhood and when I was fishing in forest preserves.
This was exactly what I was looking for. I wasn't entirely sure how to explain in a brief way how to solve a cryptogram, this was super helpful and a lot of fun!
I apperantley only needed the first sentence I HATE IT WHEN I THINK I'M BUYING ORGANIC VEGETABLES AND WHEN I GET HOME I DISCOVER THEY'RE JUST REGULAR DONUTS.
If you find a three letter word with same second and third, like "HJJ" , suspect that it might be "see" , "all" , or "too" . There are other less common words, like "bee" , "egg" , or "ass" , but the cryptograms in puzzle books start as literary quotations from well educated people, so I don't expect that those words would solve it.
I came here to solve the cryptogram Captain Olivier Levasseur threw in the crowd before being executed and he said "Find my treasure The one who may understand it " XD
this has been one of the most helpful videos in a while . But do you think there could be people out there that may possibly just not have the mental capacity to think this way... i only ask becuase Ive been attempting these puzzles for some time and i cannot (for the life of me) do it. At least now I have A place to styart ' but not sure aboutr the rest --- sorry for the typs bad laptop
Cryptograms from puzzle books can flub me up at the very end. When the gram is a literary quotation, and the author's name is part of the puzzle. The last letter can be unsolvable when a name word contains an uncommon letter, that is not used at all anywhere else in the puzzle, in a name I am unfamiliar with. So I'm screwed and an answer peek is necessary.
It doesn't have to be normal letters. I was watching videi abour rhe Zodiac killer, and he made these with his own letters which is pritty insane. The cops needed 51 YEARS to solve that...

It has some logic, but any letter could be assigned to everything- word, letter, space, number, a comma and actually this explanation is done for children minus 5yrs old.
Thank you so much. I've always been intimidated by cryptograms, but your lesson has given me hope!
Same here
Even though this wasn't exactly what I was looking for, I'm very glad I stayed till the end for that punchline, wasn't expecting that.

Great video!
You're such a good instructor. The first minute of your video was way more helpful to me than the cryptogram book I purchased
Extra points if you can identify all the bird calls in the background!
+Tammy Donroe Dove
+AZREDARTS Good one! People often mistake the mourning dove for an owl.
Tammy Donroe just use brute force attack from any online decoder it's more quickly

I taught I saw a puddytat...

doesn't end with a 'v'......it ends with an 'e'

Thank you, Miss! Awesome video. 😊👍
Thanks so much for the excellent explanation
Well done tammy
From Egypt
consider making a video about finding anagrams given a text file of 400,000 words would be nice to juxtapose cryptography and anagrams!
I apperantley only needed the first sentence

Thank you, great job in explaining it at my level.

*_I hope you solve Kryptos_*
The app I have I on my phone uses numbers as the coded part instead of letters, so each number represents a letter.

Sole this, GLOE-IH TSE-GAH TSE-NILL A-WOH BE-TKAH TSE-LE BE-TKAH TSAH-AS-ZIH NE-AHS-JAH NO-DA-IH BE-TKAH D-AH LIN A-CHI TSAH JAD-HO-LONI BE-TKAH HO-YA BE-TKAH NA-AS-TSO-SI DZEH WOL-LA-CHEE TSAH DIBEH
So can cryptography be any random letter then like L=I or A=F
Yes as long as it makes a word with all the other letters next to ut !
