This D-Max tours & tows a caravan. It now will no longer struggle with this! Not only has it got a heap more power & torque, the auto trans will now shift a lot more smoothly & nicer too. Just with a custom dyno tune by our Engineers in-house at Ultimate Diesel Tuning - no other engine mods or improvements!

Why is there such a range of base kw readings on the dmax and bt50. Ranging anywhere from 130 to 80 in your videos. Is it just based on weights of accessories or are they coming out of factory all over the place. Factory specs state 140kw from factory. I’m looking at getting a tune on my dmax and just trying to wrap my head around it

How well do the manual gearbox’s handle the extra power in the D-max?
Yep, they're fine
If you are referring to the clutch, then the factory ones are questionable, we do recommend upgrading to a heavy-duty one before tuning. But it's not 100% a necessity, unless we are doing a full-on max power/torque custom dyno tune.
DO you need or do transmission tunes for towing? I see a lot use the lock up kits on their transmissions for towing.
We've had a lot of success with our Trans Packs (trans tune & lock up kit) for the auto Toyotas, we have not fitted one to a D-Max as yet. However, the general feedback we get from our D-Max/MU-X & BT-50 (4JJ3) customers is that just with a custom dyno tune by us alone, the gearbox shifting is also greatly improved.
